The Westin Miyako Kyoto

I have stayed in many hotels in Kyoto. This one is my favorite

We stayed in a family room and was spacious. Huge bathroom. Walking through the awesome gardens surrounding the hotel was a great way to start our day! Disappointed that we had to pay to use the pool. The hotel was about 20 mins from Kyoto station, But the shuttle bus was great. Hotel was near a subway station. There are a few coffee shops within walking distance for breakfast as we didn't have it included and it was expensive at the hotel. Very helpful and kind staff. Great hotel!

We booked a Japanese style room, which looked very attractive on the website. When we arrived we were taken to a small building outside the 2 main buildings, after 2 sets of old carpeted stairs we arrived at our Japanese style room, which was in poor condition with a strong damp smell. On request, the hotel kindly changed our accommodation to a Western style room, which was equally in need of maintenance.

This hotel is in desperate need of guest room revamp, maintenance & updates! The first room we were assigned had a floor space air conditioner in it and overlooked a mildew green non functioning pool that had an aweful odor that could be smelled even with the balcony glass door closed! They did reassign us to another room which had a corner style view; luckily we were far enough away from the odor, but the windows allowed street noise to be heard when closed; the furniture was stained, the wallpaper was pealing & the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor... It's extremely unfortunate to experience a Westin property be in this horrific conditions; the resteraunts were extremely over priced, with a meal averaging $200 per person! The breakfast buffet was cluttered, crowded & not very diverse; what was available was fresh, tasty & filling. Unless this property invests in an overhaul of its dated & dirty state, the disappointment of its guests will continue.

We stayed in the traditional Japanese room for two nights. The room (and the building) itself is worn out and there were many stairs to the room, but the surrounding Japanese garden is just amazing, full of serenity. They could definitely do better with their service though. On the day we arrived the hotel, there were all young ladies to help people with their luggage. It was impossible for the lady who tried to help us to take our big luggage upstairs (again, too many stairs to the room in the old building). We ended up doing it ourselves anyway. Apart from that, we tried to book a few popular Kaiseki restaurants through the hotel concierge but none of them were available during our stay at the hotel. Unfortunately, we were also told that they can't help us to make a booking for the dinner on the day we check out. While I understand where they're coming from, it would be much appreciated if they can go the extra mile to help their customers. The payment for the meal is secured anyway because they would ask for the credit card details for the booking. The location of the hotel is okay. The train station is 3-5 minutes away by walking. However, there is nothing much around the hotel.

Excellent. Service exemplary - the staff are obviously very well trained. It's not the most modern hotel, but modernizing it just wouldn't be in keeping with the surroundings in Kyoto. It's a short walk to many Temples and Shrines and close to Keage train station. I would definitely stay here again.

We booked two superior rooms . The hotel was able to have the rooms connecting . Loved it. The rooms are spacious ! Although the hotel has a free shuttle to a few tourist spots and to and from the train station , the hotel is a little out of the city central.

We stayed 3 nights and found the hotel well located in the north east of Kyoto. You are 10 minutes from the Philosophers path that leads to many temples. You are also near the Shoren in temple and Chinon in. The metro station Keage is 2 minutes away. To assist with transport options you also have the hotel shuttle bus which stops at Sanjo stn and then Gion Shijo which is a great area for restaurants. The shuttle bus also goes on to Kyoto stn. We used this service a number of times. Our room was a Japanese style room and it was a good experience having the rice paper screens and tatami mats and futon. The Japanese style rooms are surrounded by lovely Japaneses gardens. The only downside was the mattress and pillows were very hard. We also did a nature walk in the hotel grounds test leads to a good lookout. We found tgecstaff very helpful with booking aca restaurant and assisting in transport arrangements for an eatY morning departure.
