Great walks close to hotel, restaurants around hotel great.

We stayed in a room with a king sized bed, which after staying at a business hotel in Tokyo, was a welcome change. The room needed updating (7804) but was otherwise just fine. He hotel is not convenient to downtown Kyoto. The hotel was a good place to explore the philosopher's walk and associated temples. Gion was a nice 20 min stroll away. The hotel provides shuttle to the Kyoto train station until 8 pm. If we find ourselves in Kyoto again, would consider staying here again. Hint: the hotel bar has a happy hour until 7 or 8 with half priced items and a great view of the mountains. If you tap out early from the summer heat, this is a good place to spend an hour or so in the early evening.

The Westin is a lovely hotel in a charming city. The room was large, well-equipped, comfortable, and had a great view. The service was impeccable. The location is a bit removed from the hustle and bustle and convenient close to the subway. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Kyoto is a great city. This hotel is ok, but I would not recommend staying for more than a day or so. We stayed in a Japanese style room, which I would not recommend. I'm not sure what the western style rooms were like. We chose the Japanese style room since we had such a great experience in a ryokan. Pros: -Easy access to subway station -lobby is big and clean -check-in was fast -free wifi -free shuttle to Kyoto station Cons: -The rooms were not up to Westin-standards. Our Japanese style room was old, small, and smelled like mold. There was no ventilation or central air conditioning. The doors are very low and there is low ceiling clearance. The walls are very thin. There's barely enough room to roll out the mattress on the floor. -the bathroom was old and moldy. It's a western style bathroom with a toilet. However, the toilet did not flush. The "cold" water faucet pumped out extremely hot water. There was no ventilation in the bathrooms so there's a lot of mold. The shower window faced the courtyard so if you opened the window for ventilation everyone could see you naked, showering. -The breakfast buffet was free but the food was not edible. -There's only one key for the Japanese style room. It's an original key that cannot be copied so when you leave the hotel, you have to drop off your room key at the front desk. - It's a bit of a maze to get to the Japanese style room. - We couldn't wait to get out of this hotel.

Nice, quiet, premium hotel conveniently located next to Keage subway station. Helpful staff who would show you to the room and explain how things work, and great breakfast selection. Well-furnished room and comfortable beds. Bathroom equipped with ample amenities and clean towels. Shuttle bus to Gion area and Kyoto station is very helpful.

Despite Hotel having seen better days the quality of service and general comfort level are good. Good choice of restaurants and close to famous philosophers walk. Otherwise need transport to visit other Kyoto sites.

We enjoyed our stay. We were close to shopping and restaurants. We took walks that were quiet and peaceful and we felt safe. Even at night.
