The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Michigan Avenue Chicago

I stayed at The Gwen for a business trip in Hanuary and not my first time. I keep coming back for the location, the large and comfortable rooms and the impeccable service. While in town, I hosted a Happy Hour for my clients and it was a huge success due to the pivots from the staff from outdoor to indoor. It was seamless and my event went off without a hitch. Cecil and I were in touch prior and with the assist from Kayla, Mayra and Judie on site, they kept the food coming and drinks flowing. They were amazing to work with and so easy, I really didn’t have to do much but show up!

The tipsy tea at the Gwen is lovely! When you enter and are seated the environment feels welcoming and warm! The food from the tier is delicious along with the tea and cocktails! Rin and Judie are super sweet and kind and made this experience amazing!! Even though I was here by myself I didn’t feel alone! Judie and Rin made my stay here the best! Besides the delicious drinks and food I love the decorations! Especially the adorable tiny hat you can take as a souvenir! I definitely recommend trying the Tea Time experience here!

Overall, had a great stay at the Gwen Chicago, minus a few negative experiences that were made right by the excellent team at the hotel. The first night was spent in a subpar room (due to a variety of reasons). The next morning, spoke with Luigi who went above and beyond to listen to me, find and show me a new room, and make things right without any issues. On another brutally cold night in Chicago, the thermostat went out completely in the middle of the night which made sleeping of course very difficult. The team fixed it immediately the next morning though. Breakfasts were excellent and property/location is fantastic. Thanks to Luigui, Adabel, and Ramon for their excellent customer service!

This review is long overdue, but wanted to share an excellent experience I had at the Gwen while attending a baby shower. We had a snafu with the cake we had ordered from a local bakery and, long story short, one side of the cake was smashed during delivery and unpresentable! I sought out the manager Jason S., who said “Don’t worry! Leave it to us!” He immediately took the cake in the back, where Chef Karianne worked her magic and made the cake look brand new, discretely and at no cost to us. I’d like to extend my gratitude to these two wonderful humans for saving the day!

The Gwen is a luxury oasis that sits a few floors above Michigan Avenue in the Nordstrom building. I love the lobby because it’s not a parade of people filing in from the street. The only people there are the ones staying there, which creates a more calming atmosphere. The bar area is especially cozy and in particular, June & Mayra take very good care of the guests with optimistic attitudes!

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary with a stay at The Gwen. To start, the location of the hotel is unbeatable but the staff at the hotel made our celebration truly special. Ramon, the concierge manager took note of our anniversary and surprised us with a bottle of champagne and a box of truffles with a hand-written note congratulating us. For dinner we ate at Upstairs at The Gwen and were served by Rin. Rin was attentive and really took their time to give suggestions or to steer us away from choices that may be disappointing. Our hotel room was on the 17th floor and didn't have much of a view but that was no matter to us. We are looking forward to enjoying the views at the John Hancock Observation deck- tickets are included with your booking and concierge helps you book!

Love The Gwen and all that’s associated with it. Starting with our check in! We especially had a wonderful experience at the hotel bar. Mayra our server was so attentive, kind and very good at her job. The hostess Judie/Emily were very enthusiastic and helpful. Always have an amazing time at The Gwen.

I had breakfast at The Gwen’s restaurant and it was excellent. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. A special thank you to Meredith for her amazing service—she was attentive, friendly, and made the experience even better. I would definitely come back just for breakfast again.
