The building is beautiful and sensitively converted.

My room 212 did not have a USB point, other than on the tv, but this didn’t work unless the screen was on. The floor was very creaky - as a poor sleeper I was concerned about disturbing the people in the room below.

We were upgraded to a suite on arrival so that was great! Bed was comfy, great views and lots of space.

It’s dated and tired and for the price, very basic rooms. Mine had an old shower curtain screwed up in the corner of the bathroom.

My wife and I, both of whom are disabled, stayed at the Palace Hotel Buxton on 10 June 2026. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing and left us feeling unwelcome. I have never stayed at a hotel where disabled guests felt like an afterthought. The disabled entrance is located around the side of the building, with only a single sign at the front indicating where to go. After eventually finding the entrance, we discovered the door was locked and had to ring a bell for assistance. We waited for several minutes in the pouring rain with no response. During this time, my wife was sitting on her mobility scooter getting soaked. We then went to the spa next door to seek help, only to find nobody available. When we eventually found a member of staff, we were told, "I can't leave the desk, but I'll open the door." By that point, we had already been left standing outside in the rain for several minutes. The whole experience gave the impression that disabled guests are not properly considered or welcomed. Matters were made worse when we were told that mobility scooters could not be taken in the lift. My wife cannot walk any significant distance, so I would like to know what alternative you expected her to use. The hotel's accessibility arrangements appear completely inadequate. When we raised our concerns, the manager's response was simply, "I'm sorry about that," which did little to address the seriousness of the issues we encountered. I have never stayed anywhere that felt so inaccessible for disabled guests. The lack of consideration, poor access arrangements, and dismissive response from management made for a very upsetting experience.
