Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

I booked 10 rooms initially for family to stay in for our wedding- reception were able to assign all the rooms in advance to meet our needs and make sure everyone was close to each other and had suitable rooms. The breakfast was excellent and the fact it was included is even better. The rooms are a really good size and felt premium despite being the standard rooms. Lovely stay and experience with this hotel.

We had a great stay. The food was brilliant, the spa was really good, and the staff were excellent throughout. The hotel is lovely overall, but the rooms feel a little outdated compared to the rest of the property and could benefit from some modernization.

While the hotel itself is very nice, the rooms feel somewhat dated and would benefit from a more modern finish.

I thought hotel is a little dated could do with cheering up decorative wise.staff were very friendly and reception really made us feel welcome.(Marcus I think his name was). Breakfast plenty of choice. The room was comfortable but again could do with updating. Otherwise lovely hotel in great location.

Misleading on booking for their own gain. We booked for 5 people, originally we were offered three rooms for a set price. When we went to book, they said now we can offer you a triple room for 40 quid cheaper. This sounded fine to us, but when we arrived it was clear that the room for 3 is a room for 2, and they've justified trying to shove three people in because the beds are slightly larger than a single (but by their own admission less than a double). As you can see in the images, the bed is too small for 2 and they had set up the room for 2 which makes me think normally it is for 2. When we complained about this, both members of staff were condescending and unkind, refusing to do any thing other than let us pay £115 for another room. If the original difference was £40, why couldn't we pay the difference? The manager, Marcus, could only stare at us in response. The only answer was because he hadn't done anything wrong he would offer us nothing in compensation - not even a free drink. I can't explain their attitude other than they thought we were chancers complaining to get free stuff or its been drilled into them to deny any kind of fault. We tried to offer solutions that we thought wouldn't put them out like asking for a mattress to put on the floor. All of them were denied, as if we were being unreasonable by even raising a complaint. Terrible customer service, false advertising that skirts the line of plausible deniability ("other people have slept in those beds fine!") to make sure we're stuck. My aunties 60th completely soured by a bad experience

Dirty, poor maintenance, food was terrible. Burger and steak burnt. Used to come regularly but not anymore. Shame it used to be nice.

Hotel is beautiful and the location is stunning, the trails to walk on around the grounds are lovely, I loved the spa and the restaurants, staff are very helpful and friendly, rooms are clean and spacious. I would definitely visit again.

We came to Slaley Hall to relax after our wedding. The website advertised ’the perfect excape to unwind, recharge and feel truly pampered’. This was NOT the case. First of all, we paid for early check in, and upon arrival found the room and specifically the bath to be disgusting and unclean. We ended up spending our early check in time being moved rooms. We had also paid for 4 bottles of Coors Light to be in our room on arrival, but they had sent the completely wrong drinks. We then headed to the spa for our treatments. Now I will say the treatments were very good. We felt relaxed and ready to go and chill by the pool. This feeling of relaxation was short-lived, as we arrived at the poolside to find several children were having 1-to-1 swimming lessons. The pool is not huge and they were spread out, meaning nobody else could swim any lengths. I was surprised to see this, as we paid for a spa break, not to watch random children screaming, and their even louder instructors shouting at them. We were not happy, so we left the poolside area early. Upon arrival at dinner, I found only two vegetarian option on the menu. This is not very inclusive, so I ended up having a starter and a side for my dinner. By this point I was feeling extremely overwhelmed and annoyed. Then I discovered that the toilets were closed and I had to trek to the other side of the hotel. We decided to start afresh the next day. I was aware that family swim times were between 7-10am, but as it was midweek didn’t expect too many children to be around. Turns out the website (and information in the hotel room) were completely wrong, as there were no less than THREE baby classes which lasted an hour each, meaning there were children in the main pool all the way until 12pm. On the website, there is no mention AT ALL of any swimming lessons, never mind three hours in the morning and then another three in the afternoon! Not only that but the pool was actually cordoned off to allow this. This meant that our ‘full spa access’ actually meant 4 short hours of actual peace. Not to mention how babies wee and dribble into the pool. Deeply unpleasant. By 12, I was ready to pack up and leave. I decided to speak to someone about all of the issues we experienced. Bethan the DM was kind and made sure the drinks in our room were replaced. This was all I was offered. I have since reached out to the hotel with all of my complaints- they actually missold this spa break as the lessons are not mentioned anywhere in the T&Cs or anywhere on the website. I was offered a measley £50 refund- £30 of which was our wasted early check in. So £20 refund to make up for the honeymoon from hell. Pathetic. I will be taking this further. Do not go here!

Two night spa break with dinner on both nights. Booked room 355. Great room let down by the noisy air con from the spa which was 24/7 and some very old net curtains (falling apart). The staff, spa and food were very good. Couldn't believe how many cars were on site and finding a parking space wasn't easy. I assume this was due to a golf completion on fir the duration of of our stay. We would definitely return but would avoid 355. Jamie in the restaurant was very competent and a credit to the hotel.
