"Disappointing"

3.0

Location good. Room was fine and bed comfy. Quiet

Easy parking but hadn’t read all the details on booking.com and, at first glance, it would appear that parking is included, but is not. No hairdryer in either room but we were supplied with one on asking. Toilet very dirty. Hotel advised that they had called to inform me that we would not be able to access hotel by car until 6pm due to marathon but no calls missed or messages to support this and unable to reach hotel by phone since week before to check about this. Very little in terms of apology.

Room was nearly decorated and was tastefully done.

The pub & grill needs to decide what it is trying to be. It's a restaurant, pub complete with dartboards and a large screen with cinema style seating. On Saturday we were trying to have our meal but it was very noisy due to a group of men playing darts, people cheering at the football, so we struggled to have a conversation. Looking out of our room window, onto the flat roof we also spotted a rat. Not a great sight.

"Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Price"

2.0

My partner and I stayed in Room 178 from 9–11 May while in town to run the marathon and raise money for Motor Neurone Disease. Given the physical toll of the event, we were looking forward to a comfortable rest, but unfortunately, the hotel fell short in almost every area. Upon arrival, we discovered a leaking toilet that flooded the bathroom floor every time it was flushed. We reported this immediately at 16:59 on the Friday evening using the reporting method advised on the desk, but it took an unacceptable 16 hours (9:30 the following morning) for the team to respond. When they finally did, their solution was to offer us a room move; we appreciated the offer, however, we were just about to head out for the marathon and didn't have the time or energy to move all our belongings. Instead, I had to ask for several thick towels just to mop up the flooding ourselves, which they did provide. The room itself was poor quality: Maintenance: The room was very dark, with paint peeling off the skirting boards, doors, and walls, and a noticeable stain on the carpet. Comfort: Both the bed and the pillows were incredibly hard. The tea and coffee facilities were very basic, and the milk actually split when added to my coffee. Functionality: There were no plug sockets or USB ports by the bed. It was also difficult to sleep due to light pouring in from the spy-hole and the sides of the door, as well as light from the smoke detector, light from the window and the red tv light. We also struggled to actually turn the tv off. We also found the £17.50 per person charge for breakfast to be very expensive for what was offered. We chose to eat at the lovely West Park Cafe across the road instead, which provided much better quality and value. At checkout, the staff member asked if everything had been ok with our stay? They claimed they weren't even aware we had experienced these problems, and more importantly the toilet issue. They offered an apology and a free cup of coffee from Starbucks, which felt like a poor gesture for a (room only) stay which cost us £269 for 2 nights, and plagued by a flooding bathroom. We expected much better maintenance and communication for the price. Would you pay £269 for such an experience? Needless to say we won’t return to this hotel. Much prefer Premier Inn down the road where we have stayed several times previously.

"Not as tip top as previous yrs."

7.0

The food in the bar and the sports zone for the TV was brilliant as always. Top cooking and great service.

Found rubbish from previous room occupants under the bed. A large box from a home delivery and a large bag. Never complained at the time as it was only somewhere to lay my head before the Leeds marathon. The only other niggle was no bath in the room. Last 2 yrs I have stayed there has been a bath which is brilliant to soak in after the race. Can't really lay down and soak in a shower lol. The lighting i the room wasn't brilliant. Only 2 minor small ceiling spots to light the whole room when not using the bedside lamps. Had to put all the lights on to get sufficient light to read in the room.

Good location for the marathon that started in Headingley

Village hotels act as a leisure centre & pub rather than for hotel guests . Preference is for a more modern / corporate hotel.
