good clean hotel, nice large room with everything that should be there in the room.four underground stops from main railway station.a big plus for an hotel in Europe is free wi-fi..(and it was strong too) and also a very good buffet breakfast also.all in all an excellent stay and I will stay here again when I am back in the area

I checked out a number of hotels online before booking and the price for the value seemed to be best for the Excelsior and my hunch worked out! Nice place, 15 minute or less walk to Altstadt, clean rooms, quiet hotel, really good breakfast, friendly staff. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice hotel without having to pay a ridiculous amount. If you have a car you have to park across the street at the parking garage. It's around 17 euro a night so that part wasn't so fun but if you've been to Europe before you'll know that parking in the cities is always at a premium. You might be able to drive around and find a spot along the street but it was pretty full everywhere. Not the hotels fault though.

It was fabulous! The breakfast buffet was one of the best we've ever had in our travels! With out a doubt will come back again!

Great value good quality hotel. Although the room was clearly not the latest styling the condition of it was still very good. The bath tiles are actually so out of date they may even be back in fashion! Very helpful staff, neat system on the Wifi log-in for requesting things such as irons etc. Would definitely stay again. Walking distance to the Altstadt.

Reasonable place, very dated. Strange bar. No AC, so very hot rooms. Variable staff, generally good though. Two lifts, one can only carry 2 persons, the other, 3. One closes at night!? Useless safe. No key card system.

Arrived by train, used U bahn to Nord Str. This station in conveniently located next to the hotel. Arrival was and book in was excellent. Staff were brilliant. Although there was clearly some refurb taking place, this did not affect my stay. The room was excellent, 109, is to the rear of the building which I was grateful for; the emergency services appear to use the route outside the front as a main Rd to calls for service! Breakfast was excellent, however don't expect full English. I love continental breakfast and was left very satisfied with the food each day... and coffee was outstanding. The hotel is a 15 walk to the old town, or one stop on the U bahn. Locally, there is an outstanding little bar called café florian. Good food and beer, recommend . I will use again.

Quiet area just a short walk to bars, restaurants and the river. Easy access to the airport and business district. Hotel receptionist could have been a bit friendly but overall experience was value for money.

Hotel good, excellent walking distance from the old town through the park (no problem walking through the park at night). Found the hotel too hot in all area's. Had to have the bedroom window open for fresh air (lucky we were not street facing). Could hear guests in next bedroom, but once you had ear plugs in, no problem. Would recommend this hotel if staying in Dusseldorf. Easy for taxi to airport (approx. 20-25 euro's).

I found the hotel to be bettet than the website pictures suggested. If the hotel had a restaurant for evening ,meals I would rate it as excellent.

This hotel was a perfect base near to (but not in) the Altstadt and a short walk to the main shopping area. The hotel was a short taxi ride from the main railway station (approx 7 euros) and the Nordstrasse U-bahn station is a 30 sec walk away. Upon arrival we were greeted by a pleasant member of staff who spoke v good English and allowed us to check in early. He also gave us a map of local area and a brief overview of nearby attractions. We arrived at the room to find it was still being cleaned, however, so headed to the bar for a drink; this was reasonably priced and complimentary snacks were provided. The hotel has free unlimited wifi for all guests. The room was reasonable size, had a good bathroom (shower, no bath) and a large TV with 2-3 English news channels. A safe was available for a 1 euro deposit. I found the decor of the room and the whole hotel a refreshing change from the many "chains" that I stay in in the UK. It has a cosy individuality and I liked it - it was scrupulously clean. The room was warm and at no point did any exterior noise e.g. traffic become noticeable, although, I did hear noise from adjoining rooms but this wasn't excessive. Breakfast was buffet style and consisted usual bacon, sausage and eggs etc alongside continental style and chilled meats. A large selection of drinks were available including coffee, tea and juice. Checkout was straightforward and the hotel helpfully arranged a taxi to the station for us on departure.
