"Totally unacceptable attitude of supervisor"

4.0

We have stayed here many times. Before over the last 14 years for the sterling bull sales and the breakfast has always been excellent and we come because we use it as a treat but for some reason this time the breakfast was totally inedible, food was under cooked and cold so after first day we said we would cancel our breakfast for the second morning but the duty supervisor or whatever her title was told us we couldn't have a refund for the canceled breakfast as we payed before we came, I can't see why this hotel seems to think that it can keep my money for something that was substandard especially when the price has already been increased substantially from or last visit and the member of staff we spoke too seem to have no interest in anything that we said just said nothing she could do, so unfortunately we will not be returning to the sterling highland hotel again it is totally unacceptable

"NOT 4 STAR"

6.0

I give it 3.5 stars at best. It's most attractive draw is the central location and history. Everything else is overrated. Some parts of the hotel are filthy(streetside lower entrance for one). And some parts are handicapped unfriendly. The bath & bed was clean & acceptable. The mattress is a little lumpy, but comfortable. There was a filthy, broken remote, along with damaged hanger & tissue holder(fell off & would not stay). There was dirt/food splashes on wall. The desk & table tops appeared to be dirty. The windows only open a crack & there is no a/c, so it might behoove a guest to pack a small fan if needed. The heat works... eventually. The carpet appeared clean & nice...too bad the rest of the furnishings (dated & worn) are not visually appealing & matching. The bar floor was sticky like it had not been mopped for some time. Kaitlyn in the spa gets 5 stars as she gives a proper massage. The housekeeping staff, along with the bar/restaurant folks, were warm & helpful. I would not stay there again unless there were a price drop & attentions to this property.

"Lack of service"

4.0

Beautiful room BUT issues with water. Shower couldn't turn off after cold shower. Took front desk 90 minutes to answer the phone. no hot water in am for shower x 3 days. Dinner was a joke. We were seated at 6. Ordered 4 starters then entrée multi tables were seated and served while we waited. Took over an hour to get the starters and it was cold .waitress didn't want to address the issue. Salted spinach was cold and pricey for a table spoon size serving. Hostess was rude. Handed us the bill and walked away

We booked the Highland Hotel at the last minute due to a change of plans because of Storm Amy. We were very happy with the room and the service we received, it's a lovely old hotel in a great spot for exploring Stirling Castle and the township. Parking was reasonably priced and on-site.

"Four star!! Nope."

6.0

The hotel has a brilliant location, just a short walk from both the city centre and the castle, great views over the city to the hills beyond. Sadly the view and location was the best thing about this hotel. Upon check in it appeared that we had made an error on our reservation and that the double room was only booked for one person! This was resolved at reception but only after the duty manager spoke to us in a way that made us feel like we were criminals trying to sneak an extra person into the hotel! Very unprofessional behavior from the manager. Our room. We both slept well which was a bonus as it meant we did not need to spend too long in the room with our eyes open. Mis matched and worn furniture, stains on the walls, scratches on the dressing table/ desk, mould on bathroom seals, silicone seals coming off..........the list could go on. The restaurant. Food was tasty but somehow on both nights they had run out of cheese ( should have added the location of the hotel puts it within an easy 5 minutes drive of large ASDA, Sainsbury and Tesco supermarkets) which was a disappointment as we do like a cheeseboard. On our second night we booked a table at 6 pm, and ordered a steak off the specials board. Guess what, it was not available.l! Quite how a specials board can be sold out so early on in the evening one can only speculate however given the attitude of the manager we spoke too at reception, the worn out room and the mess on the carpets ( the carpet in the restaurant at breakfast looked like folk had been emptying plates directly onto the floor) it actually should not have been a surprise at all. What a disappointment, however it did make me rewatch Fawlty Towers when we got home so that we could reminisce over our stay at the Highland

Brilliant location, hotel itself just in need of a refresh. Public areas are great, rooms are just very tired. Clean and comfortable enough but would stay again as there are nicer hotels in the same price range in Stirling.

This was a beautiful old hotel which was once a high school. Very convenient location - easy (uphill) walk to the castle and easy (downhill) walk to shops and restaurants in the town. Friendly staff and good breakfast and dinner. The only downfall was the elevator system which did not help us much on the second floor. Understandable considering the age of the building. Parking was very safe and convenient in the protected courtyard.
