Villas Rio Mar

Great pool very decent dining hall and they know how to cook helpful friendly, and courteous staff. We had a very nice time. Did I say how big the pool was?

The resort is very family friendly. It is in a beautiful location right next to the river and just up the road from downtown Dominical.

Mostly very good experience with the staff in the restaurant bar & pool! However the lady @ the reception on Monday morning (8/29) was very rude & abrupt when I tried to discuss with her a late check out. I was told her name is Sandi (?) & she is the accountant for the resort! Also a group of local adolescents took over the pool on Sunday morning with no adult supervision! Otherwise, a nice stay with good hospitality from the 2 men serving the restaurant & pool. I forget the names. ? Juan Carlos y Costa chico!

We had bats above our door. Bats scare me and when we told the front desk they laughed it off saying they won’t hurt you. At one point they were squealing. There was a patio in front of the room but couldn’t use it due to the bats.

Great stay. Out of all the places we stayed on our trip to Costa Rica I would say the staff and guests at this place were the friendliest. The atmosphere is family-friendly and quiet. We lucked out and stayed during a time when many Costa Ricans vacation. We met so many local families. I think it’s a good sign when locals themselves stay at the hotel. We enjoyed the food, the pool and the location to the beach is walkable. We were tucked away far enough where it was quiet and safe. We saw many iguanas, Toucans, butterflies and we could hear Howler Monkeys in the distance. You can take the trail behind the hotel to view them. The rooms are large enough and comfortable but the location and friendly vibe is what sells this place. I would stay here again!

A Beautiful Place to stay. My research confirms this is the nicest/reasonable priced place in Dominical Beach. The staff are all friendly, helpful. It is a quiet place; I sleep well here. The pool is clean, big, and very refreshing. House keeping does a great job. The breakfast is amazing, coffee is very good. The restaurant food is very good; some of the best tacos I ever had, and of course the local cuisine is on point, excellent quality. The prices are quite steep though, even for a Canadian, and being charged in USD is lame. I will not pay $13+ CAD for a mojito, no where In the world. When a big bottle of premium rum at the store is $18. Some food had one price on the menu, but I was charged more when it came time to pay. I feel the attitude as a whole in CR is to gouge the tourist. We saved hard to come here, and are not all rich, so why are we charged exponentially higher prices than locals would pay. Perhaps if they charged in colones I would feel better. This is an amazing place to stay, but they need to invest a little more to make the road in drivable. Unless you have a quality SUV, or 4x4, you will ruin your car on the road unless you drive walking speed.

Villas Rio Mar has a lot of positives...it has a good location and the grounds and setting are very well kept. The restaurant is well above average and I was very pleasantly surprised by traditional Costa Rica meal that I ordered. It was much better than the average "casado." The restaurant staff was also very nice and friendly. The front desk staff was just "so so." They seemed more interested in getting back to texting on their phone rather than helping customers. The rooms were nice, and the bed was comfortable...but the walls are thin and you can hear the entire conversation of whoever is staying in the room adjoining yours. This makes it challenging to sleep.
