Overall, a great place to stay. Clean, welcoming, and staffed by genuinely friendly employees who were well-dressed, professional, and clearly cared about customer service.
I stayed here while attending the Pinners Conference at the Overland Park Convention Center, and the location could not have been better. The hotel is about 5 minutes away, almost a straight shot. It was incredibly easy for my husband to drop me off and pick me up, but if you’re driving yourself, parking at the convention center is simple and convenient. No need to Uber if you have a car.
You can tell this is an older hotel, but they are actively updating and remodeling—and the improvements are noticeable and well done. Our room had a faint “older hotel” smell, likely from older carpet or curtains. One curtain had a stain and could use replacing, but since they’re in the middle of updating, I’m hopeful this will be addressed soon. Most importantly, the room and beds were clean, the bathroom was mold-free, and that matters most to me.
The atmosphere throughout the hotel was great. There’s a small bar area near the front desk where you can order a limited selection of adult beverages, Starbucks-style coffee drinks, and some warm food. There’s also a small snack area for purchases. The complimentary breakfast nook was honestly better than most “free hotel breakfasts.” My husband ate there (and he eats just about anything) and was genuinely surprised by how good it was.
Customer service was fantastic—helpful, accommodating, and friendly across the board.
The bathroom layout is more of a water-closet style with just a toilet and shower, so it’s compact. The shower itself is spacious, but the toilet area is tight due to the door placement. If you’re a larger person, you may need to leave the door open or request a handicap-accessible room. The sink and mirror are outside the bathroom, which some people dislike, but I actually loved it—it allowed me to get ready while my husband showered. The lighting above the mirror could use an update, as it’s fairly dim and yellow.
The room itself was spacious and well laid out, with a sitting area, desk, counter, mini-fridge, and sink. Bonus points for actual full-size pillows—not the sad little ones—so I didn’t even need to bring my own. There were plenty of outlets, good lighting, and thoughtful placement overall. We stayed on the top floor away from the elevators, so while there was normal hallway noise, it wasn’t disruptive. The beds are positioned farthest from the door, which helped minimize sound. I did use a sound machine, but I’m a light sleeper.
Beds were comfortable, and the comforters smelled clean. There was also an extra blanket in the closet. We didn’t use maid service during our stay, so I can’t speak to that.
One small frustration: if you plan to spend time in the room watching TV, streaming can be tricky. You’ll need Google Cast, and unless you’re comfortable connecting your streaming accounts to the hotel’s open Wi-Fi, it may be frustrating. The available TV channels are limited. Not a big deal if you’re mostly out and about, but something to consider if you’re staying in for work or downtime.
Location-wise, everything we needed was close by or just a quick hop away—Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, Starbucks, Scooter’s Coffee, and Chick-fil-A.
I have FODMAP sensitivities and eat gluten-free, and we loved Billie’s Grocery. It’s very gluten-free friendly with excellent breakfast and lunch options, great coffee, and a gluten-free bakery—perfect for grabbing snacks to keep in the room.
We also grabbed BBQ at Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que, and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was for a quick done-and-dash meal. Counter-order style with dine-in or to-go options, and fast enough when you’re on a tight schedule.
Parking at the hotel was easy, luggage carts were available, and there’s a microwave near the elevators for reheating food—another thoughtful touch.
We would absolutely stay here again. Clean, comfortable, well-located, and clearly improving—this hotel checked all the boxes for a conference stay and beyond
