Staff was awesome. Even all the emails I sent prior to trip. They responded ina timely manor. My only issue is that a lot of the stuff and activies are at the hotelnwitht the beach.

"OK Resort"

6.0

The resort itself is nice. The staff were very nice and accommodating. The rooms are average, the bed was hard and extremely uncomfortable. The restaurants were ok and have limited hours. The buffet had more of a cafeteria feel to it.

"Brilliant Two Weeks"

10.0

This hotel is smaller compared to other RIU hotels I’ve stayed in, but with it being smaller it’s more homely and everyone knows each other, even with all nationalities staying at the hotel. The staff are amazing at this hotel, they can’t do enough for you, massive shout out to Simon the restaurant waiter, who looked after us brilliantly. The rooms are spacious, optics in the room and stocked fridge, use the RIU if you need to. Speciality restaurants only 3, Mexican, Italian and steak house which is at the beach and the shuttle bus will take you, once booked in. There is also a shuttle bus to take you to the beach throughout the day as you are not on the beach with this hotel and as previous people have stayed please read the description, it’s not the hotel fault if you don’t read, but throughly enjoyed our stay here and to top it off my son proposed to his girlfriend on the beach when we went to the steakhouse, would definitely go again to the RIU Lupita!

"Loved it"

10.0

Our first time in Mexico and Rui hotel. Loved the place as it was not too big and a great location, being on the edge of a golf course. The shuttle bus runs every half an hour to both the beach club and the main Playacar gates. So you can be in Playa del Carmen without having to walk too far. Drivers were happy, friendly and engaging. The food in the main restaurant was varied and we always found food we enjoyed. You also have the choice of going to the snack bar ( Italian in the evening), the Mexican restaurant or booking the steak restaurant at the Beach club. We didn't bother with booking this as it had to be done at 7am on the day ) you wanted to eat there ( not ideal when you want to lie in on holiday. The entertainment staff worked hard to provide day activities and evening entertainment which was on a 2 week rota. Loved the saxophone player and the silent disco. The room was spacious and kept clean daily. The air-conditioning and full size fridge were noisy. The main pool occasionally had aqua gym and water polo. If you wanted a peaceful sunbathe the quiet pool was lovely except there was only one lot of toilets and bar which I found unusual. Loved seeing the coaties ( very cheeky particularly if you have food) and lizards regularly. Enjoyed our 2 week stay.

"Cracking value, a week well spent."

8.0

Managed to get a week's package holiday to the Lupita for £900. At that price it was cheaper than 4 nights half board in Spain, so was an easy choice to make. I had stayed at the Riu Tequila in May and that was a very impressive hotel. Arrived at the Lupita expecting the same standard, just on a smaller scale, and was not disappointed. The team at reception were excellent in checking us all in off the coach from the airport, and gave us a 5-10 minute welcome talk. Went straight to the room, which, whilst a bit dated, was clean, smart and more than adequate. The air conditioning wasn't overly powerful and the bed was comfortable. The only change I would like to see, as with the Tequila, is the option of thicker bedding. There is a fluffy blanket in the cupboard which did help, but personal preference for me is a relatively thick duvet and a cold room. On arrival I found the selection of food to be a bit limited, however this is probably be down to the fact that I had been used to the Tequila having a dining room twice the size, and therefore twice the choice. But, as well as the buffet there is the option of the Italian and Mexican restaurants on site, and the steakhouse on the beach. As it happened, I only went to the buffet. I could still find more than enough to fill the plate, and it was top quality food from around the world. The location of the hotel is excellent, it is nestled within the woods, and as such it is very peaceful. Being smaller, it is a lot calmer than the other Rius in Playacar, which to me is its selling point. If you like animals- you'll love the Lupita- Coatis everywhere, the occasional iguana and even resident cats (one is smart enough to camp outside the Italian restaurant every night without fail.) The hotel's other major selling point is its shuttle bus. With the beach being the other side of the golf course, a shuttle bus is laid on. It runs every half hour (XX:00 and XX:30 from the hotel and XX:15 and XX:45 from the beach) and drops you off at the private Beach Club, next to the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. It's a lovely beach, with a snack bar by day and a steakhouse by night. However, it also stops at the gatehouse to Playa del Carmen itself. It turns a 2.5km walk to 5th Ave to a few hundred metres. Driver is excellent. Service generally is cracking, personable staff who genuinely care. Had a call from reception around 10 minutes after checking in to make sure the room is okay, and then about 10 minutes before checkout to see if I needed help with my bag. Restaurant and bar staff are also great. Not a fan of hotel entertainment so generally avoided it, but did sit and watch a drummer/ singer duo, who I did enjoy. The staff do wheel out a popcorn machine and some nuts for the evening entertainment which I think is a nice touch. On Fridays the Tequila run a party that all of the local Riu hotels can attend, the shuttle bus will take you over there from the Lupita. All in all had a very enjoyable week away. I think my next trip to Playacar will be to the Lupita, as what it lacks in things like a huge variety of food, it more than makes up for with its peacefulness and access to Playa.

"Good"

6.0

I recently stayed at this hotel resort and had a mixed experience. On the plus side, the service was amazing from start to finish. We received a welcome drink, and the guest services team was super helpful. However, the food was just okay - nothing spectacular. One thing to note is that the resort isn't directly on the beach, and you'll need to catch a shuttle that runs on a limited schedule. The pool was nice, but the hours were restricted, and I wished it was open 24/7 with swim-at-your-own-risk signs. The rooms were clean but basic, and the beds were extremely hard - almost rock-hard. The bathrooms were decent, but nothing to write home about. Overall, the pros outweighed the cons for us, but I’d recommend being aware of these details before booking. I met some great people while traveling here. I would book again if needed to make a last minute trip.

Horrible hotel. First is was dirty, towels smell, roaches in the room, dirty pool. Then the buffet is garbage with the same things you don’t want to eat all the time and the people that work there are rude, wont even let you take a bowl of fruit to your room without harrassing you about it and asking you questions that don’t apply. One of the things I like es was that they have cats but they ruined that because I think my wife and I are the only ones who des then for 2 weeks except for when I specifically asked the staff to feed them and they acted like I was crazy. Thats maybe half of the horrible stuff. Any other hotel is better, don’t waist your money

I loved the service we had at the front desk to our maid and the guy that filled up our room fridge with beer water pop. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Thanks again Riu Lupita as this was the second time we’ve stayed there. O yes and do go have à la cart Steakhouse. At the beach it’s GREAT
