Hotel Martino Spa and Resort

grounds of the resort are well maintained and tranquil. certainly a great value for the price and perfect for the night of arrival to CR or prior to departure. about 15 minutes from the airport. if your looking a luxury property, this is likely not for you. the interior of the rooms/Villa's are a bit dated, but very adequate. the pool is great and the onsite Italian restaurant is great. a hidden gem.

This is an awesome place. Very relaxing atmosphere, lovely pool, adequate workout room. The location was convenient for seeing the sights in the province and city of Alajuela. It is virtually across the street from the famous Animal Rescue Zooave which exceeded our expectations. Several good eateries nearby. We found Rancho Miriam to be exceptional for local cuisine. The staff at Hotel Martino are hard working, engaging and friendly. We plan to return.

Service is at times unfired and pedantic. The food is poor. Rooms are definitely in need of a refurbishment. Forget about this hotel if you have a physical handicap: too many stairs to go everywhere. Very isolated and far away from the city... won't go back

Great hotel Great service Highly recommend 15 minutes from airport Quiet

We spent the first two nights of an independent tour of Costa Rica at Resort Martino. We chose it for the convenience of its location close to the airport and for exploring the Paos region.The staff were very welcoming which was much appreciated after a long flight from Manchester UK. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the meals were excellent ( steak and pizza). The room was very spacious and comfortable and the balcony overlooking the natural landscape, listening to the wildlife, sitting on the rocking chairs was our first experience of pura vida lifestyle!. The pool was very clean with nice temperature water and was lovely to come back to after a day out sightseeing. It is a little tired, It isn't a contemporary, sterile hotel where you could be anywhere in the world, it has an abundance of Costa Rica character. We returned to Martino for the last night of our holiday and I would definitely stay there again.

I had a very bad experience in that hotel. For instance, the room I got had a funny old smell coming from everywhere, blankets, bath, pilows, etc. Plus, the sink was all stucked so you had to wash your teeth and spit very fast other wise the water would come off. The last night, I ordered room service. It was smoked salmon which immediately tasted funny but then i thought to my self, what could go wrong out of a salmon made in such a prestigious restaurant. I got intoxicated badly. Yet the personal of the hotel went to a drugstore to buy me medicines, I was charged for the dish and never got formal excuses from the owner as they said the salmon met all the standards. I doubt it because I peeked the kitchen and it was not that clean enough. So I spent all night in the bathroom, sick to death, and the hotel thought it was just a virus. Other issues: it says it has a gym. That’s a lie, there are just 3 machines in a very tiny room. The restaurant is full of flies and poop mosquitos. I never got into the pool but it seemed very abandoned. Just like the rest of the so called Roman style hotel.

We stayed here for our first 2 nights in CR. Its a good base to explore the area whilst being close to airport. Spacious rooms, fantastic pool, good Italian food in restaurant Would definitely stay again. Only thing is some upstairs rooms have noisy air-con machines above them. We asked to move and it was then OK.

We had a great day for our day pass. Nice room, pool and staff. Had a relaxing massage. Diddier and Stephanie at the desk were so helpful and welcoming. Lunch was included in the day pass and was also yummy! Thanks!

The wood work in this place is quite impressive. Definitely has an Italian feel about it

Had a confirmed booking for a non-smoking junior suite with a king bed. We were given a room with six twin/double beds. Didn't raise the issue as it was midnight and we'd been traveling since 8AM. When doing a quick bed bug check noticed the mattresses were fraying and not in great shape. The two sofas in the sitting area were also very dated. Staff were all very nice, but barring a major upgrade this hotel's best days have come and gone.
