We had a gin tasting session booked in Hensol Castle and the hotel was an ideal place to stay after it. The room was comfortable with a king size bed and the staff were friendly and helpful. A courtesy car took us to the Castle and we walked back.

"Good food, shame about the ambience"

4.0

I feel the kitchen staff have been poorly let down in this brasserie. The food was actually very good. However, a very drunk and loud group of blokes in the restaurant really put a dampener on the whole experience. I'm not a killjoy and can cope with a bit of effing and jeffing, but time and place. The staff did a good job at first at asking them kindly to tone it down but it wasn't enough. I suspect that is why they got distracted and didn't bring the drinks we ordered or take our empty plates and ask about dessert or check if there was anything that we needed. Even when we asked for the bill the waiter "forgot" to bring it. He apologised but hey, when you are paying good money for a meal out (and you aren't short of options around here) I think it needs to be better. Our advice to the Vale..if you are hosting a business event where drinks are flowing, maybe warn other guests and make sure you have the management structure in place to deal with idiots.
