Hotel Riu Tequila - All Inclusive

The location was great. The grounds were lovely. The staff was very nice.

The foo could have been better.

Quite frankly the worst holiday I’ve ever had. It was sold as a 5* holiday but it’s a 2* at best. Rooms are basic, clean and tidy. That’s the best bit. The food in the restaurants is bland, tasteless and greasy. The ‘à la carte’ experience is anything but. Luke warm buffets, mass produced starters and below par, tasteless main courses in all of the restaurants. The ‘24 hour’ snack bar is empty of food after 9pm….and I’m not sure how long any of the food has been sat around for….i sampled a sandwich that was the consistency of cardboard so it definitely isn’t fresh. Evening entertainment is an absolute joke. We spent more time out of the hotel than in it because it was so bad. The pool areas are clean but the swim up pool has a nickname of the ‘p*ss pool’ as no one gets out to use the bathrooms….and the amount of drunk people flailing around is, quite honestly, embarrassing. I will never be returning to a RIU hotel and I would advise anyone who is thinking of booking this to think again. It is definitely not a 5* experience and it is definitely not worth the money.

Returned from a trip from March 22nd to 29th. The resort grounds are beautiful and kept clean. We used the pools only once. The walk to the beach is pleasant in shaded area. We were able to catch the transport only twice. Would be nice to have more than one to accommodate more people. Food and service in the restaurants was good. Variety of foods, some repeating at buffet. Saw some gluten free options for bread and milk alternatives. We enjoyed the variety of fresh juices. The pools had a snack and bar, so that was convenient in between meals when we were not at the beach. We also had some of the prepacked snacks in the Sports bar. We visited twice the Mexican and Steak house. Beach was cleaned and broken chases were taken away. We did have 2 days of bad sargassum-be aware you might have an allergic reaction to it. It is not very clear which areas on the beach can be used by Tequila guests. Rooms bathrooms were good, only shower gel 2in 1 and hand soap was provided, thanks to previous reviews we did bring our own. Beds and pillows were uncomfortable and small for 2 adults, so we didn't get good sleep during our stay. Some tips here suggested to request mattress toppers and blankets, so we did through the app. Still the mattresses are coil ones and really bad. Door had a gap, balcony door screen was not installed properly and was coming off in areas, so we had too many mosquitoes in the room. The balcony had space to dry swim suits and towels, and chairs to sit. Our room faced green area and was quiet and calm often busy with wild life. Sitting chairs in the room were uncomfortable as well. Closet had plenty of hangers. Water and drinks were not reloaded daily-if we saw water in the hallway in the mornings we grabbed it. We did not drink the provided bears and pop, so not really needed them re-stocked. No kettle to make tea. Coffee maker is old and outdated. Safe worked good and was big enough to accommodate tablet and valuables. Sheets were stained, but clean. We had towels changed couple times during our stay. We did enjoy the Riu Neon party on Friday 27th. Evening entertainment was ok. Beach entertainment was a bate minimum. Did not use any of the resort credits provided with the Sunwing package. We did walk around the other 2 resorts and had some drinks at their bars, but did not check the snacks. The marina mall and shops are 30ish min walk which we did. Closer to the hotel there is also souvenir shops and Starbucks. Liked that they are designed areas for smokers. But people were still smoking on balconies and littering the grounds. We saw lots of buds in front of our 1st floor balcony. Overall we had good time. Would return if the price is right and beds are updated.

The location, the food and the customer service was excellent! I will be going back!

March 8th for 11 nights. 3rd visit to the Tequila, The first was prior to the hotel refurb and we absolutely loved it. Great hotel, great staff, the rooms are generally in blocks of 16 ground floor and 1st floor. Not by choice but we have always been first floor and now would prefer it. Lots of wildlife roam the grounds which we like, this year we saw more of a varied birdlife to dd to our enjoyment. We had three occasions to request help from reception, these were all dealt with within 30mins, we were impressed. Use of the three hotels is good as we are in our 70's and not always into the entertainment, especially Friday Party Nights when guests are bussed in from other Riu's in the area. I would comment on the amount of sargassum on the beach the first day, it was not a problem to our stay as from Monday the Riu staff worked tirelessly removing it and the beach was superb. Plenty of sunbeds, towels fresh when you wanted, Plenty of trees for shading, though you obviously have to move the beds to keep up with the sun. Sampling all the three hotels for food and ambience we are happy that for us Tequila is the best. Looking already to talk the "better half" into returning soon.

An amazing stay in the beautiful surroundings of playacar. We were greeted on arrival with a welcome drink and a quick and efficient check in. Room was clean and stocked fridge was a welcome addition- the housekeeping team do a fab job, as do all the grounds maintenance staff at keeping the hotel clean, tidy and well cared for. Food was great, we enjoyed the different speciality restaurants and the buffet restaurant, definitely something for everyone- waiting staff are very attentive, tips are appreciated but not expected and certainly didnt affect service provided. The pools were great,we tended to stay around the larger pool but did venture to the swim up (adult only pool) on occassion- i was a little apprehensive after reading some reviews but didnt need to be. Access to the other hotels was a really great addition, we spent a lot of time at the yucatan as that was near the tequila beach area. We had a couple of days where the sargassum was bad but the hotel staff work their socks off to.clear it for the benefit of their guests. We often read about tequila being the party hotel and we did wonder if we had made a mistake booking it as we are certainly not party people, we didnt stay long at the white party but certainly appreciated the effort that was put in by all the staff to pull this event off- we stayed in a room (38) closest to the entertainment area and werent disturbed at all by any noise. The only thing i would have liked would have been a quieter area to sit on an evening for those that didnt want the lively atmosphere of the entertainment area. Overall a great stay and we are already looking at booking again for next year.

Thank you for an amazing experience Riu tequila. I’m sad to leave , everything was amazing clean the staff was great always ready to help With anything you ask . The food was beyond amazing! Drinks were delicious. Rooms lovely . Came here with my two adult daughters and we all had the best time can’t wait to come back . And I see comments about the walk to the beach it’s actually very nice not even ten minute walk. . Till we return thanks to Every single staff member who made our trip great .
