"Ideal location"

8.0

Ideally placed for those wanting to explore St Petersburg. Winter Palace is 5-10 mins walk and Nevsky Prospect is a similar distance. Friendly staff who speak very good English. Swimming pool and sauna facilities good but could possible do with some updating (although very few people use them). Nice café alongside. Comfortable reception area, although possibly a bit business like for some. Did not eat at all in the restaurants since so much choice close by.

"Great Locaton and Wonderful Ballet Pictures"

10.0

I found this to be a fine place to stay, principally because it has a great location, a very competent, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and several very nice places to eat. Do sit at the bar and try a vodka. And the buffet breakfast is really great. As to location, its only a few minutes away from St. Petersburg’s main drag, and a few more to the Hermitage, although there is no very close-by metro station. The walk to my room from the elevator was a little long, as the staff made sure I had a nice view, but the corridors are lined with life-sized sepia pictures of ballet scenes, which I found rather intriguing. My room was neat, spotless and very comfortable. It’s a bit short on amenities, for example, there are no toiletries, although it did have a lint brush and a shoe polisher – this later most helpful with the slushy sidewalks. I did have occasion to use their laundry service, which was reasonably priced and very efficient. One help is that there is a full service travel agency in the lobby, which can help you with tours, train tickets, etc. On the same block is a nice little restaurant / coffee shop – it's to the right as you exit the hotel - which has and enough staff there who speak English, so you should have no trouble ordering.

"Great hotel for exploring center of St-Petersburg"

8.0

Hotel is very nice located with view on the St Isaac cathedral and very close to the Hermitage. Ideal situated to explore center St-Petersburg. Rooms and hotel are good but not up to the class of I.e. a Sheraton. Swimming pool looks good on the pic but is in reality very small and water is cold (at least for me). Food is good and you can use the adjacent hotel Astoria (connection inside) to enjoy more restaurants.

Great style and ambience. Superb staff - could not have been more helpful. Old-style hotel rooms - updated in most ways but not all.

"Home from home"

10.0

The staff make this hotel extra special . It is a very clean, comfortable well-run hotel with a special sense of intimacy and concern that many bigger impersonal hotels don't have. While not super slick it is more than pleasing in appearance. I was travelling on my own and more than happy to have made L'Angleterre my choice in St Petersburg. The position makes walking to most of the sites possible. The food is also excellent.

Probably best location in St. Petersburg however the hotel is overpriced and somewhat in need of a general overhaul, feels a bit tired.

"Good location-poor service"

6.0

Very good location of this hotel is one and only issue to recommend this hotel to travellers. Quite bad service on reception and very poor service in dining areas. Rooms are quite good, but relatively small. I'd better stay in Astoria Hotel which is same building as Angleterre but has really different client oriented services.

"Great location OK hotel"

6.0

In my opinion, the only reason to stay at this hotel is the location and the front desk staff. The room was modest and not at all what I expected. It is rather dated and it shows. When I plug my laptop in it blew the fuses and we were without power for half an hour. If you are going by US upscale hotel standards, you will be disappointed. If you are going by old world European standards then you will like it's charm. I however, was not charmed, but did love the location.

"Angleterre Provides Superlative Service"

10.0

My wife and I are experienced, cosmopolitan travelers and had minimal expectations for our hotel in St. Petersburg. We were completely wrong. The Angleterre exceeded our expectations by a broad margin. The staff throughout is highly professional, competent, and reliable. Their English skills were excellent, their willingness to help was welcome and their demeanor was charming. The hotel's courier service is (while expensive) also valuable, as their drivers speak excellent English and protect against the maverick, unreliable cab companies operating in the city. Also worth mentioning as superb are: the quality of the 24-hour room service, the buffet breakfast, and the bedding. One thing we would recommend to anyone is the upgrade to a room with an intimate view of St. Isaac's (and the Square) which is monumental and awe-inspiring. Additionally, the hotel was wonderful in helping us secure our travel visas to Russia. As anyone who has done this knows, it is a complex, 2-month process filled with red tape, requiring a "sponsor" (in this case, the Angleterre) for admission to the country. Their concierge responded to all of our requests for assistance promptly and thoroughly, including faxing us the necessary documents. The negatives are few. Most signicantly, the hotel and St. Pete's itself are among the most expensive locales we have ever encountered (including Venice, Rome, Paris and NYC). Additionally, as with many European hotels, the Angleterre charges excessively for the use of WI-FI in the rooms. But these are insignificant quibbles compared to the wonderful virtues of this marvelous hotel. We would recommend a stay there to anyone.
