The staff and location is amazing! The property just needs some upgrades our showers never got hot and the fire alarms went off at 4am and kept going off every 15 minutes 20 minutes which was annoying and it’s no ice machines on the floors you have to go to the bar

"Nice to stay for a night or two"

6.0

We checked in to our room and found it was on the first floor. Being that my partner and i prefer rooms upstairs, we upgraded to a room on the third floor overlooking the pool. The room was nice save for the horrid bathroom tiles and the fact that you could tell the building at some point in time was used as an old folks nursing home. Also, the ac was not working when we moved to the room. They fixed it but it broke in the middle of the night. My partner woke me up in the middle of the night to move rooms, which was not pleasant. A pressure washer and regrouting would go a long way in those bathrooms. I looked forward to enjoying the wellness center but the lounge area before you enter the steam room smelled like sewage. The steam room was not very steamy and the steam seemed to only turn on every 30 minutes. The pool area was very nice but the whole deck needs to be power washed so it doesnt look so grimy. I would love to help clean this place up. The staff was very pleasant and super accommodating but someone should have to experience what we experienced.

The pool is fantastic! Staff are nice. They have no accessible ice machine, which can me annoying. They should invest in one so customers are not bothering staff to get them some ice. Building is old, but maintained. Elevator was down a couple days. There was cockroach in our room. Wish they had a microwave. Leak in the closet from the ceiling.

"South Beach has many options. You may want to pass"

6.0

I stayed at the Axel Beach hotel on the recommendation of a friend who had stayed there previously. I thought it would be a great place to stay for my birthday weekend. The staff was professional and very helpful but the facilities were lacking. I made another reservation for a for friend who ended up changing his room four times. The first room was a double when he requested a single occupancy. The ceiling in the bathroom of his second room had fallen in. The third "upgrade" looked exquisite but had no working television or phone. My room was ok, however, this old building had very thin walls and all wood floors. I could hear every foot step and movement in the room above me. My stay reminded me that you get what you pay for. This was most definitely not the Marriott or Ritz Carlton nor even the Holiday Inn. This hotel is marketed as a hetero "friendly" and lgbt hotel. This is dubious marketing at best. Every hotel anywhere in South Beach doesn't care whether you're gay, straight, bi or trans. All they care about is whether you have green money to spend.

I stayed at this property upon the recommendation of a friend who had previously stayed there. I made to reservation for a friend and I for my birthday weekend. My room was sufficient. It is an old building in need of a modernization. The all wood floors and thin walls between rooms make for a noisy visit. My neighbors above me were stompers but, luckily I don't frey easily. My buddy's room was a complete disaster. He ended up transferring rooms four times in 2 days. The first room was a double which he did not require, the second room's shower had holes in the bathroom ceiling and tub wall, his second room did not have a functioning tv or phone. The third and fourth rooms were upgrades with balconies with the view of the pool with the fourth being the charm. Did I mention that on the first day of our stay that there was only cold water in the showers? The staff corrected that and they were consummately professional. Its not the Marriott and you get what you pay for. It would not be my first choice to stay on my next visit to South Beach. Its marketed as a gay-and hetero-friendly establishment however that is the only thing that really dubiously distinguishes from other hotels in South Beach. In retrospect, this is pure marketing because no one cares about clientele's sexual orientation in the 21st century. We have the same green money that any other hotel in South Beach would love to take.
