"Ask for a renovated room!"

4.0

The photos look better than the reality. If you won't get a renovated room (there are some; ask in advance), you might be disappointed with the interior and quality of the room. The surrounding territory is under construction due to the road construction as of July 2013, so it's not easy to access the embankment and the front view of the hotel is not that nice currently. Overall, this is an old-style Soviet-Union era hotel that desperately needs capital renovation/ reconstruction.

"Shame about the road works"

8.0

The Hotel is in a nice location overlooking the river but is not that close to all the attractions that you will cant to see in a week or two week holiday. Unfortunately there neighbouring bridge was closed for major road works which was noisy and caused massive traffic problems. The best way to get to the city attractions was on the Metro which was a good 10 minute walk from the hotel but was an interesting experience.

"great river view"

6.0

The decor was dated, but the room (suite, actually) was spacious and clean. The great thing about this hotel was the view of the rivers, even at night, as the buildings and bridges were lit up and there were fireworks 2 nights (perhaps weddings).

"Hotel St Petersburg."

4.0

this is a very low class hotel with no fineries at all and not good value for money. It was built in the Soviet time and seems to have stayed in it.The lobby area is sparce. The bar and info desk staff were wonderful tho. It is on the other side of the river and a walk to the Metro station so we had to spend £10 each way by taxi. On trying to get back to the hotel we were quoted as much as £25. It is best to go into a cafe and get them to ring a taxi and ask a price. Also one day our room was not even cleaned and at 11pm had to wait over an hour to just get clean towels. The 'duvet' is a blanket within a sheet and no extra pillows etc

"Wrong Side Of the River"

4.0

Do yourself a favor and pick a hotel on the other side of the river. Everything you want to see is on the other side and it is a waste of money and time traveling back and forth. Also it is a huge pain to stay out late and get back to the hotel after the bridges go up for the night. Lastly the front desk gals were rude to us as americans. We were lucky we had our own guides and did not need assistance because we would of not gotten any.

"Traveller from Britain."

6.0

Hotel is a bit tired and could do with an upgrade(but then of course would cost more). As other travellers have remarked it is the wrong side of the river but, for this reason, has superb river views. Do recommend that you pay the extra and get a room with a river view. Lenina metro is an easy 10 minute walk for access to town. At present a lot of construction is going on outside the hotel, so not the quietest location. Staff do not volunteer help as in western countries but are usually helpful, if a bit abrupt. I think this is just the Russian national character and not intended to be impolite. Tip: don't get roubles before you go - use a cash machine at destination or take cash to exchange as you get up to 20% more on the exchange rate. And be very aware of pickpockets and guard your cash at all times.

"A nice time"

8.0

The Hotel Saint Petersburg is a well-maintained Soviet-era hotel. The hotel itself is about a 15 minute walk from the Finlandia Voksal (Railway Station). Conveniently located if you are coming in from Helsinki on the snappy Allegro train. The rooms themselves are clean and in reasonable condition, bathroom clean, everything working, and plenty of hot water. Bed confortable. Excellent view of the river Niva plus the Aurora battelship. Breakfast was excellent, the usual continental items plus more local things, all very good. Lobby bar offers beer, liquor, and snacks at reasonable Western prices. Free Wi-fi available, reception is the best from the Bering (breakfast restaurant) on the second floor. Walking distance from many points of interest across the river.
