"Service very poor in the Atrium bar."

6.0

Visited the Atrium Bar for lunch after travelling a fair distance. Familiar with the hotel having stayed there many times. Sadly very disappointed in the service. No menu offered, had to collect from the bar. Only about 8 customers to serve, so not busy. Waitress was very unpleasant and not interested in us, as customers, at all. Repeatedly had to remind staff of simple requests. Cutlery was filthy, twice! Had to go the bar again to request the bill, which was overcharged. Staff were not proactive in any way. Not sure if l would want to return.

"A Special Treat"

10.0

We stayed one night but wish we'd booked two! There to celebrate my sister's 60th, we had a wonderful overnight stay. The welcome was immediately warm and friendly. The receptionist was helpful, cheerful and efficient. The foyer was decked with tasteful Christmas garlands, weaved around the impressive staircase with a beautiful huge Christmas tree in the corner. There was a SKODA conference but this business event did not impact our stay at all. Our adjoining double bedrooms were in the outer buildings interconnected by corridors to the main hotel. The rooms were tastefully decorated, clean and very well equipped. My sister and brother-in-law were particularly delighted with their room as she was greeted by towel sculptured elephants on the bed with a welcome birthday message and bar of chocolate which was a really nice touch. The atmosphere in the hotel was relaxed and quiet. We had a nice cup of coffee in the library whilst we waited for our rooms as we arrived slightly early. Our evening meal was superb. The staff were attentive and the food choices were all well presented and delicious (1 x lamb, 1 x steak and 2 x duck). As it was my sister's birthday the staff were happy to bring out our birthday cake with lit candles they had provided for us. Thank you for making it a special night and a special occasion. We had a restful night's sleep and enjoyed a sumptuous cooked breakfast. Before leaving and after checking out we had a lovely walk around the garden. We didn't have enough time unfortunately to walk further although there was a signposted footpath down to a lake and arboretum (one for next time!) . We did have time for a coffee served in the impressive Atrium room. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. Next time we will make use of the swimming pool and spa treatments!

"Wedding of dreams"

10.0

It has always been a dream to get married at Tortworth court, from visiting one of the wedding fayres I knew it was meant to be. From booking our wedding, the food tasting, monthly and weekly meetings. From start to finish everything was absolutely perfect. We can not thank Eve and Elvis enough for making the planning and the day go so seamlessly and for all their help make it so perfect! It will be a day we remember for the rest of our lives and a special place in our hearts.. or as our children call it “mammy and daddy’s castle” Thank you again for everything, you’re an amazing team!

"Did the earth move for you?"

8.0

My wife and I stayed here for a two day/night break. This was our first visit to this hotel. Initial impressions on arrival were very good after an awful journey at the hands of storm Claudia. The entrance drive to the main house/hotel is a good way off of the main road and there is ample car parking at the end of this drive both close to and slightly away from the main building. The hotel itself is visually very impressive and looks as if it oozes history. It is located in very impressive and well manicured grounds. The inside of the hotel is quite grand in appearance with a big winding staircase. The reception process was quick and the staff very friendly. We were allocated room 18 called Utopia on the first floor. The room itself was a good size with a large bed and couch at the bottom of the bed. It had a very nice but compact bathroom which included a bath and over bath shower. We also had a large samsung tv, a fridge, tea and coffee facilities and a bedside radio. All very nice. Sadly the downside of the room was its level of comfort due to it being so hot. It was on the first night so, so hot it was almost unbearable. No heating on in the room and the window open but still hot. The source of the heat was a bit of a mystery but i think was related to whatever was beneath the room. To add to the mystery we were woken at about 8am by the entire bed randomly vibrating. Some would say this was a free added bonus but we like our sleep and so it was a bit strange to say the least. Yet again I can only put it down to whatever is located beneath that particular room. I did later mention it to reception staff but didnt really get to the bottom of the problem. They did however provide a nice quiet fan to help with the heat. Anyway. The rest of the hotel experience was lovely. The staffare very attentive, friendly and polite. The food and drinks are great and the Atrium bar/restaurant was a very nice place to dine. There is a main a la carte dining room but we didn't bother with that. Next to that is another very nice bar serving cocktails, a couple of beers and wines in a very pleasant and relaxed setting. This was our favorite spot for an after dinner drink or two. The spa and pool and gym facilities are also worth of a mention. As a guest you can use the pool etc on a booked hourly slot for free. We had an afternoon slot but I found the pool very busy with little room to swim. The jacuzzi located next to the pool was also packed and fairly small so we didnt get to use this. The pool area is a good size but is a bit tired looking. It could benefit from a makeover and some nice plants and better lighting. Leaving items like mops and brushes and the like dumped on the floor doesnt give an impression of care and standards. It's the little things that people notice. Both good and bad. What about the grounds then. We'll they are very nice and appear very well tended. Lots to see and a nice little walk to relax and escape the hot room for some air. The grounds would be lovely in better weather. Altogether we did really enjoy our stay at this hotel. Yes there are a few areas that they could improve on but on the whole it was a very nice break away. Would we go back? Yes definitely but in the summer and hopefully to a different Utopia/room.

"Rooms need updating"

6.0

We had stayed at similar places and had high expectations, i guess. Its an old historical place and has its charm. We got the lowest room category and thought it would be fine... Oh boy. One sink, two faucets, one for hot one for cold..... So i obviously couldn't wash my make up off that way 😎, so off to thw shower, i don't know how it was planned but even the average size person cannot take a shower without letting water flood the floor 😎 Theb there is gotta be a special way to flush the toilet, well, i couldn't master it, so annoying. The fact that there is literally one set of towels in the room was puzzling. We had to look around and found another set in the closet on top of the safe. Didnt feel like it was fresh towels.. yes, all who wrote about walking infinite corridors to find the room, were correct, so much walking old same looking hallways. We only stayed for two nights but the sink situation was so annoying that we asked to switch rooms the next morning. We hoped for something grander but were grateful to get same room with the sink with ONE faucet! Maybe it was a bit more updated. Maybe. Now , the evening meal at the restaurant was delicious!!!! We really looked forward to trying other things the next night, only to come in and without notice learn thay the dining room was going by cafe menu, pretty disappointing. Breakfasts were excellent and many options. I guess they do a lot of corporate retreats or conferences so there were many of those. Thats also the reason they told us they had a big party in a cafe so the restaurant kitchen had to go by cafe small menu. I wish we knew. Not sure i will be back as rooms are more like motel rooms

"Mmm something not right this weekend"

6.0

I was so looking forward to going here as a last minute change of plans by my brother who lives abroad. He booked 3 rooms and we took Mum down to see him for the weekend. Checking in- on arrival stated we would wait till my brother arrived from Dubai and would be approx 45mins but informed all 3 rooms ready. We told them we would go and have a small lunch in the Atrium so aware we were on site. Food at the atrium was lovely and worth trying and then coffee good. We returned an hour later to reception and my brother was there trying to sort the rooms and was being told all rooms not ready and other issues. My brother as he got his room key and signed for it informed them ALL rooms and charges to his room. They apparently agreed this. They asked us to sign in whilst my brother went to his room and then all went to pot, charging our cards for extras even though been informed not too. Our room not ready yet and therefore my hubby took mum to hers which was an accessible room. Brother returned as room was tiny and air conditioning unit noise outside was horrendous and a few other issues and not impressed we had our cards imprinted. Our room took another 35mins, oso I took my Mum out to the gardens which are lovely. Dinner service was very weird and almost on you before you had even sat down and have a moment to read the menus and just kept coming back again and again to the point you felt being rushed. Food good a mix of lamb, chicken and duck. Breakfast to me was ok nothing special The room we had 16 was so so hot two and still no luck in getting air in the room and for a person with COPd I like aired rooms and non scented products. I just felt the events that were on took away from the calm feeling a hotel of this stature should have and a bit of warmth to the Library would be good too as this was freezing. Very up and down place for us and after 2 nights of no sleep I was happy to leave. Final note we had just got back on the Sunday after being out since 10am and the rooms had not been reset they arrived at 4pm,just as we were trying to chill and this was the same for the other 2 rooms. This is shoddy in my book. Setting lovely and the look of the hotel wonderful just about of issues that left a stale taste!
