"Good hotel, great location"

8.0

We were very happy with this hotel and would stay there again. Our room had a king-sized bed and TV and was very quiet. We especially liked the location which was on a side street and away from the noise of heavy traffic. The hotel is across the street from a beautiful plaza and kitty corner from the Alameda where we spent many evenings sitting and watching people. It is somewhat of a walk to the center of the historical district, where most of the restaurants are, but taxis are plentiful for those who find it too far. Would recommend some knowledge of Spanish as most of hotel staff does not speak English.

"Never again!"

2.0

Never again. There was only one very short moment when there was hot water; the rest of the three days there was none. The manager does not care (no does anyone else) and kept giving me excuses and untruths about the situation. The only positive thing I can mention is that there were plenty of thick blankets, because it was really cold early in the morning.

"Great small hotel and good value"

8.0

We stayed three nights at the Casona de los Vitrales in early November. Its a quiet, very clean hotel with medium sized well appointed rooms with bath/shower and toilet. Nice firm bed and plenty of lights. Located on a small sqaure and gardens only 5-7 minutes walk to the main drag and city center. Hotel has free wireless internet (a real plus), and some of the rooms (our downstairs room for example) have good signal as well. No restaurant but there are dozens of good places within a 10 minute radius. When booking make sure you specify a 'standard' room as the booking staff seem keen to sell their 'luxury' rooms first. And Zacatecas itself was a wonderful experience.

"great location, clean rooms, needs someone else to run it"

4.0

We have just returned from a 10 day motorcycle trip through parts of mexico. I NEED to write about the casona. The location is great, the rooms very nice and clean. and that is it. I NEVER received a fax or e mail to confirm my reservation although i called various times. We did not get our wake up call our last morning there! The place is very noisy and the curtains are too thin to keep the light out, and the window over the door lets light in too. The WORST thing, well i had read here about the water and did not think much of it.... i would really consider this problem if you wish to stay here! The last morning we woke up to almost no water pressure, and NO hot water. We were six couples staying there together, and this is our review. Unless there is new management, and problems fixed, we all agree that this place is not worth the money.

"Antonio is the best!"

10.0

The hotel is located in the centre of the action in the Centro Historico of this beautiful city. But don't rely on a map to find it as it is located on a callejon (alley) that doesn't appear on maps. (We later learned that street addresses are of limited use in Zacatecas.) But a taxi driver will know where the hotel is. The hotel itself is very pretty and comfortable. But we were most impressed by our host, Antonio, who was enormously helpful to us. We first arrived at the hotel exhausted and soaking wet late one evening after our rental car had broken down several blocks away during a torrential downpour. Antonio, hearing how poor our Spanish was, immediately offered to call the car rental company for us. He then located a mechanic for us at 9:00 in the evening and CAME WITH US to help find the car and act as translator! We are very grateful to Antonio for going well beyond the call of duty. We will remember Zacatecas warmly because of him.

"Very Good Value, though less than perfect"

8.0

I stayed at La Casona de los Vitrales from June 17-19, 2007, and was ultimately satisfied that I had chosen well in reliance upon previous Tripadvisor ratings, and had received a very good value ($72 USD per night) relative to other properties in Zacatecas. Its location, facing a lovely, small square/ garden and next to the much more elegant (and expensive) Meson de Jobito (which I would also highly recommend to those seeking more luxury), is both very pleasant and convenient to the heart of Zacatecas. Though it has no restaurant, the restaurant at El Meson de Jobito is very good, so I took breakfast and one lunch there. I was quite annoyed upon my arrival, as the clerk placed me (I realized from photos on this website) in a less comfortable and expensive "De Lujo" king room, even though I had reserved and prepaid for a "Superior" king room. After trundling up to the assigned room with the assistance of the bellhop, I called her to register my annoyance. She came to the room and, upon hearing more from me in, shall we say, "colloquial" Spanish in response to her attempt to persuade me that I had received the correct room, she immediately reassigned me to the correct room. The king-sized bed was an exceptional amenity for such a reasonable price, and the room was spotless (as is the entire hotel). There was plenty of hot water. Because there is a lot of traffic on a street a half-block away, and the windows are traditional, there can be a modest amount of street noise during the day, but it is not a significant detraction. Overall, the rooms are very nice for the money. One negative: There is no "caja fuerte" (safe) in the rooms, or in the hotel. The door locks are little different from those in a typical American home. Hence, some may find themselves a little concerned about security. I left my laptop in my room, but carried all other valuables with me. In the hotel's defense, I would say that the cloistered entrance, coupled with a sole point of entry to the hotel right in front of the desk, makes it less likely, but still not impossible, that someone would wander in and burglarize a room. I myself would feel comfortable staying there again despite this shortcoming, but others might not. The common areas are very charming and, as the name suggests, house some extraordinary modern stained-glass works. I loved the colonial center of Zacatecas, which I had long wanted to visit. It is unquestionably one of the nicest cities in Mexico (I have visited many). For the money, La Casona is the best deal in town.

"Zacatecas - La Casona de los Vitrales"

10.0

A friend and I stayed at La Casona de los Vitrales during a three evening visit to Zacatecas in June 2007 -- the hotel is closer than described to the City center, less than a block away. Our room was excellent, very clean and spacious. It's a very safe hotel with easy access everywhere in the city, there is a lovely small park right in front of the hotel. The staff was extremely attentive and welcoming. The building entrance is down a 'callejon' (narrow alley) that is so brightly painted, lovely flowers and so inviting. They also have large conference facility for group events. And while there is no restaurant it was not an issue because the hotel next door had a lovely restaurant. The hotel had nice outdoor seating benches in the callejon where we sat in the evenings listening to the unique sounds of this beautiful city. Student groups go down the callejons in the early evenings with bands to celebrate life -- such lovely sounds of life and activity!! We were in Zacatecas to meet with the University Autonomia de Zacectas and the central campus was less than a block walking distance. The airport is about 20 minutes from downtown and one takes a cab, again everything reasonable. Thank god for the internet as one is able to discover these wonderfully affordable hotels as a result. Other hotels and restaurants are also within steps away -- what a BEAUTIFUL city Zacatecas is!! It is an unspoiled city that is not 'commercizlized' or overrun with tourists; that was refreshing. The weather was great, warm days and cool evenings; their winters are cold; they share same seasons as we do in New Mexico. Great history in this region that affected northern New Mexico history. There is so much to do, with most all the wonderful museums and attractions all within easy walking distance. I would return back to this hotel and to Zacatecas in a heartbeat!! It was also very reasonable and yet of high quality and great customer service!! Gracias!!

"Great Deal - Comfortable, Clean and close to everything"

10.0

I actually thought I had booked our room at the Condesa and am happy that my mistake led us to La Casona de Los Vitrales. It is a very nice hotel. It's small, clean, and modern. Our room was very nice with a comfortable king size bed, comfy pillows, goosedown blanket, cable and a tub, frig. It was much more than I expected for the price. Plus the hotel staff is very helpful and nice. The hotel offers secured parking and wireless. The only downside is that it takes about 10 minutes to get hot water. Other than that, it was perfect. It was close to everything, not a huge hotel and not in the main square (but close enough to it) so it was very quiet. I would definitely stay here again.

"Very Nice Room"

8.0

We had a great stay at La Casona de los Vitrales. We were only there two nights after a well travelled trip to Morelia, Guanajuato and San Miguel. This hotel is great for the price considering the price of other hotels in the area. The room was very well arranged. It had amenities such as coffee for the morning. The electricity went off when we were there and was not back on until morning but that was okay with me. I just went to sleep. Very comfortable beds and warm duvets which was good as it got quite cool the first nigh. The hotel was central, very close to everything. It did not have a restaurant at this time but there was one at the hotel next door. Had a great stay.

"More than I expected"

8.0

My boyfriend and I decided to take a weekend trip to Zacatecas out of the blue (we live in Monterrey, México, just 5 hours away). There really wasn't much time for planning, we decided to take this trip Friday and left Saturday morning. We decided on "La Casona" mainly because of the reviews I found here and let me tell you that I got more than I expected for $45.00 dls a night. Honestly, I had my doubts about this hotel, mainly because the price was was strangely low. But once we arrived, we felt like we found the perfect little mexican hotel. I loved the building, the decoration, the indoor parking space (a real blessing in Zacatecas), Cable Tv, hot water, the place is wonderfully located in the "centro histórico", everything's just a few blocks away. We stayed in a room in the third floor, and althought I to agree that the rooms are very clean and the decoration is quite nice. I was a little bit uncomfortable because we could hear everything and we felt like we were being heard by everyone. Honestly, I'm not a heavy sleeper so I could barely keep my eyes closed. At night I could hear everthing happening downstairs, the phone ringing, the staff talking in the front desk, someone's cell phone was ringing all night, we could hear our neighboors arriving at the middle of the night. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but that is definitely not a problem cause you have many restaurants nearby (I especially recommend the Emporio Hotel's restaurant for international cuisine (excellent duck tacos), the Mesón de Jobito's Spanish-themed restaurant is quite good as well (try the natilla and the sopa gallega) and La Cuija is a great option for mexican food). All in all, our weekend in Zacatecas was quite good, we will definitely be back soon.
