Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club

Had a fantastic stay at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch! Check-in was super friendly and smooth, and I was pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade thanks to the preferred rewards program. No fuss, just a nice perk. Every dining experience was great, and the amenities were top-notch. It’s a perfect spot for families with plenty for the kids to enjoy between the pools and the beach. I had seen some negative reviews beforehand, but honestly, nothing during our stay lined up with any of those complaints. Drinks were a bit pricey, but sipping a cocktail on a gorgeous coastal property with awesome service? No real complaints here. Would absolutely come back!

Very beautiful property and great customer service.

My partner was attending a conference here, so I decided to tag along to experience the resort. First of all, the good. The grounds were beautiful and the room was impeccably appointed. However, for this price, I have a few suggestions to further elevate the experience for guests: Upon check-in, I inquired whether it's possible to walk to the beach as I am generally active and read (here on TA) that it is about a mile away. The agent checking me in confidently informed me that this was not possible, and I should take the tram. When I took a look at the info sheet provided upon check in, I noticed that there was a QR code prompting guests to download the RunGo app which has many suggested walking trails, including several to the beach! (I ended up walking several of them and they were all beautiful, so highly suggest doing so for walkers like me!) Moreover, I inquired what other amenities the resort provides, considering the price. Again, I was directed to the info sheet, which lists out options such as spas, massages, restaurants, pools, etc. So to be fair, the info sheet had all the information I needed. However, a more personalized answer from the front desk would have made the experience truly feel like a high class one. I expect better knowledge and service about the products the resort offers. Generally speaking, the staff were kind, if a bit distant. I wouldn't return if I had to pay on my own dime but it was a fun experience.

We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach for two nights over Memorial Day weekend, during a fully sold-out period, and felt incredibly lucky to be upgraded to a Fireside Room with two queens. A huge shoutout to Lori Ohashi, who was fantastic during check-in and went above and beyond to find us this upgrade. The room was spotless and beautifully located with a serene garden view. We especially loved the fire pit area—our kids had a blast making s’mores, which made the stay even more special. The pool was lovely and relaxing. Our server, Oscar, provided excellent and attentive poolside service at Sombra, which we truly appreciated. We also dined at Aveo, where Jermine took great care of us. We enjoyed the Sea Bass, Caldo de Marisco, and Pasta alla Vodka—all delicious. The front desk team was wonderful whenever I stopped by to confirm our folio. Special thanks to Noah, Wilber, Lisa, and Russel for their helpfulness. After checkout, I noticed an incorrect charge on our bill. A quick call to the property, and Soyla promptly resolved it and arranged a refund. The follow-up was seamless and professional. Lastly, a big thank you to Isabella L from the Guest Experience team for sending us thoughtful goodies and a personalized card during our stay—the sweets were delicious! Overall, we had a fantastic experience and will definitely be back. This property truly deserves a 5-star rating!

So expensive for what you get. Everything is at a premium and nothing was ‘white glove’ treatment. Staff were just average, young and not sophisticated. My daughter hurt herself twice and they didn’t even take much responsibility. Perhaps the San Diego area guests don’t know what it is to stay at a high end resort because this is not one.

Check in and room were wonderful. Lack of hotel response upon their solicited email, sub par. It has been a couple weeks since responding to their email for feedback and no response. 2 Star concern deserves a 2 star review. WA you can find my email and please don’t bother with a respiratory this point. Just do better with guests in the future celebrating life, Mother’s Day, etc…

Not ideal for a romantic getaway - it felt more like a playground. The hotel itself is beautiful, but a few inconsiderate guests who acted like they owned the place, along with customer service that felt more like a "Vegas hotel" than a luxury resort, really took away from the experience. There was constant running and yelling in the hallways. We even had someone play ding-dong ditch on our door late at night (a first for me), and were woken up early the next morning by someone letting their child scream from the balcony above us. From reading others' reviews, we must've just drawn the short straw with our room. (If your room number is 579 or 581, you've lost.) There was a restaurant right outside our window, so we got to enjoy the bass and noise from there, along with kids (and adults) yelling and running in the halls. We also found someone else's food in our fridge - gross. That has never happened to me in any hotel before. There was absolutely no acknowledgement from staff members when entering or leaving the hotel. Even the notepad holder in the room had scribbles all over it. Is this a kindergarten or a five-star hotel? Despite having Diamond status, we received no upgrades. We asked for late checkout and were told it was fine - only to be automatically checked out by 11:30. I even let them know we were celebrating my wife's birthday, and we received nothing. Not even a note. To top it all off, during the beach shuttle ride, a guy behind us wouldn’t stop talking loudly on his phone about his business. There we were: beautiful view of the golf course, lovely breeze - totally ruined by someone basically talking into my ear. The best part of our stay? Trying the Aesop products and watching Back to the Future.
