Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club

This is our 3rd time staying here over the last two years. We come yearly as a family staycation. It's perfect with kids! We have 3 kids (2,7,9 years old) and the "kids" pool on the other side is great for families and the perfect size with a large baja self. You can't beat the pools area with the incredible view. I think it's one of the best hotel pools in Southern California, gorgeous view and location! The shuttle to the beach and beach club are great as well and makes a beach day with kids really convenient. I LOVE how they set up the chairs and unbrellas for you so you don't have to worry about it, other beach resorts (The Del, in Coronado) either have the service and charge you an arm and a leg to rent the chairs/umbrella or they dont have any at all. This is one of the big reasons we keep coming back year after year. It's a great resort! They have a small kids club which was nice when it was raining and there wasn't much else to do. We also love using the fire pits and doing smores, the kids love that! All in all one of the BEST resorts in SoCal for families, plus everything is top notch and luxury, they even brought robes for all the kids to use during their stay, they LOVED that! They are always so accommodating to our requests and we plan to come back again and again! Oh, the pool food is actually really good, we love the chicken tenders, they're really great!

Incredible weekend getaway. We enjoyed every second we stayed here. Great room, restaurant choices and wonderful property to stroll. We traveled w/our little dog who enjoyed the property, too! :-) We’re already planning another visit very soon!

We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Club over Mother’s Day weekend with our five-month-old baby, and unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing — not at all what you’d expect from a property under the Waldorf name. We anticipated a luxurious, relaxing getaway. Instead, we were met with disorganization, long waits, and a clear lack of guest care. The shuttle to the Monarch Beach Club, which is advertised as running every 15 minutes, took over two hours to arrive. We called repeatedly — each time told, “It’s on its way.” We were standing outside with a baby in the heat, waiting endlessly. Adding to the frustration, room service arrived more than an hour late, and the bellhop took 30 minutes to show up after we called for our bags. This wasn’t due to crowding either — a waiter admitted they weren’t even that busy and definitely not sold out, which makes the level of service even more baffling. I was told that a manager would follow up with me. It's now three days later, and I haven’t received a single call. It’s unacceptable for a hotel of this supposed caliber to fail so completely on basic service, let alone follow-through. This experience ruined what was supposed to be a special trip for my family, and left us regretting our decision to stay here. The Waldorf name carries expectations — this was more like a mismanaged Marriott. Someone in management needs to be held accountable or retrained. Until this property delivers the service it promises, I cannot recommend staying here — especially if you're traveling with children or hoping for a stress-free vacation. Go stay at the Montage or Pelican Hill instead.

Absolutely stunning, gracious and impeccable resort. Phenomenal, professional, responsive, warm & friendly team, from the moment you arrive. Accommodations are gorgeous, immaculately maintained and serviced. Looking forward to a return visit!

Deeply Disappointing Stay – Serious Sanitation Issues Ignored Our recent stay at the Waldorf Hotel was unfortunately unacceptable and distressing. We noticed a foul, sewer-like odor emanating from both bathroom sinks in our room. The smell was so severe that it made me physically ill. It was clearly not a minor issue—it appeared to be a backed-up sewage problem, creating a completely unsanitary and unlivable environment. We promptly reported our concerns to the front desk and requested a room change. To our disbelief, this reasonable request was flatly denied. We were told there were no available alternatives, and no real effort was made to resolve the issue or even properly assess it. As American Express Platinum cardholders, we expected a higher standard of service and a willingness to rectify the situation or issue a refund. Instead, we were met with indifference and lack of cooperation from both the hotel and its management. With no resolution in sight and the room remaining in an uninhabitable condition, we had no choice but to check out early—at our own expense. Since our stay, we have discovered similar complaints from other guests: recurring issues with plumbing, strong odors in rooms, and poor response from hotel staff. In my opinon this is not an isolated incident but a pattern of neglect. The Waldorf’s lack of hospitality and failure to meet even basic health standards has left us incredibly disappointed. We expected a luxury experience and instead received a situation more fitting of a neglected roadside inn. I would strongly advise others to consider alternative accommodations.

I am a Delta Diamond, Hilton Diamond, and Marriott Lifetime Platinum member. I have traveled the world and accumulated over 1,000,000 miles. Unfortunately, I have never encountered such a disrespectful accommodation experience. Upon my arrival, the bell captain was rude and seemed very entitled while handling my luggage. Housekeeping failed to clean my room even after four requests. Additionally, my 10-month-old was extremely distressed during an unannounced fire drill. Overall, it was a horrifically disappointing day.

Food was great

Excellent location.. shuttles to pleasant beach and extensive restaurant complex. Great golf club and course. Excellent restaurants and bars. Team all superb. Valet parking is fast and efficient. Rooms excellent in fact all you’d expect of a 5*
