Bournemouth East Cliff Hotel, Sure Hotel Collection by BW

Upon arrival, the " dog friendly" hotel had a receptionist who told us " she didn't like dogs". She spoke to the bar person like dirt, we felt very uncomfortable. When entering our room, we found the bathroom in a poor state of repair, with rust in the bath, the tiles very badly grouted, stains on the sink top and the toilet seat loose. The light "fitting" did not touch the ceiling, and was hanging on by the wires. We were given a WiFi code, but were unable to access any WiFi for the duration of our stay. The TV aerial point was damaged, and the TV was intermittent. A lovely woman did come to try and resolve the issue, but was unsuccessful. The same lady called reception, and was told there was no other room available for us to love to! The worse part of our stay was yet to come! We went to breakfast, and was told that dogs were not allowed in the room. We were told we could either sit outside in the cold, take our breakfast to our room two flights of stairs up, or sit in the bar. We opted for the bar. The chairs were so low we could eat our food without propping ourselves up with cushions, we complained several times, but not once did any management come to see us. We also emailed, and were told someone would see us in the morning, but no one did. I would never recommend this awful hotel to anyone!!! Avoid at all costs

House keeping was very poor. Went all week with the same bed sheets, no hoover done. Bathroom dirty, tea cups washed in bathroom sink, no fresh towels everyday.

Room very spacious and big bathroom, bed was comfortable, liked the idea of opting out of room cleaned if stay more than 2 nights for a free drinks token from bar, staff very helpful and friendly

Just back from an excellent stay at the Carlton hotel in Bournemouth. We had a great time. The bed was comfy, as were the pillows and the shower was hot. The staff were very helpful and courteous, Josefina went above and beyond to rectify a problem with our parking (she succeeded) and Tommy looked after us well in the restaurant every evening (along with his knowledge of local bus services) Reviews say the hotel is dated but it is an Edwardian seaside hotel, full of character and we loved it. Would definitely stay again!

We called in advance to inform the hotel that we would be checking in late, the lady on the phone left a message for the night staff. We arrived just before midnight to see a number on the front door saying to go to the Carlton hotel or call a number for assistance. Called multiple times, no answer. Went to the hotel across the road (Carlton Hotel) to see another letter on the door to ring a mobile number. Called the number multiple times - no answer. We had to forcibly pull open a powered door that was off, to get into the hotel after being locked outside for 20 minutes in the freezing cold after a long drive at midnight. There was also another couple who were already checked in that were locked out of the hotel! There was no staff at reception. We finally found a member of staff who apologised, stating his phone was on ‘sleep mode’ (do not disturb) so the calls didn’t come through. His number was on the front door to the hotel! We were then told we were staying at the Carlton hotel, and had been moved from the hotel we had originally booked. ‘They move all their winter bookings to the Carlton Hotel’. We eventually got our room keys, and 2 free drink tokens as a ‘sorry’. We get to our room and find a letter stating to claim free drink vouchers at reception. So not that much of a special ‘sorry’. The room decor was also awful. Horrible wall paper and paintings. In need of an update.

The breakfast is nice

We arrived to our booked hotel on Saturday 23rd November for our 2 night stay to find a derelict hotel! We eventually found a sign on a window saying that we needed to attend a different hotel. Please bear in mind we arrived during storm Bert, we along with our luggage got absolutely soaked whilst we try to get into our initially booked hotel and then walk along to the 'new' hotel (We were not informed of any change)... Once arrived at the new hotel (The Carlton) it was clear that it was not in the same class as the booked hotel and this was reiterated when I saw the invoice (£58 for Saturday night and £38 for Sunday night). So in summary, the hotel we booked was closed without any mention to us.. We got absolutely soaked and stressed during this whole process and then found our 'new' hotel was half the price I paid!

The staff were friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was we'll stocked and enjoyable. The swimming pool was closed but fortunately we were able to walk to the hotel next-door and use their swimming pools. The Sauna and Jacuzzi facilities would have been very welcome, if only they were working! The room that we had on the same level as the reception wasn't great, as we didn't have any kind of view from the window. We were offered another room but declined it, as it was even less suitable for us. Anyway, it was just a one night stay, and overall, it was an enjoyable and worthwhile stay.
