Howard Johnson by Wyndham Portage La Prairie

Would not recommend this place and surprised that Wyndham allows its name to be associated. Needs major work inside and out. No one at the reception desk to greet you. Had to walk around to find someone. Room okay but wall paper peeling around the door and wall by the bed, Electric heater not wall mounted!!!! One window blocked off with what appeared to be styrofoam!!! Not very safe. Hot continental breakfast was canned mini hot dogs floating in water and scrambled eggs!!! No yogurt. Fortunately we had purchased our own yogurt and travel with breakfast stuff just incase. When checking out again no one at the front desk, had to find someone gave up and left card on the counter. Hotel surroundings not that well maintained. Only reason we stayed there was because we were not able to get a room at the Microtel by Wyndham across the highway when we booked in January. I think if CEO’s went around to see there hotels they would hopefully make some serious changes to this hotels appearance and the way that it is run with respect to properly trained people.

Had to go find someone and not willing to wait so left card on counter. Surprised Wyndham would have name associated with it given that there was a microtel by Wyndham across the highway. We were not able to get a room there when booking which is why this hotel was a second choice. Sorry but need to spend some money on this hotel.

When we arrived we did not get our King room reservation. We were put in a room with 2 double beds, they did not adjust our rate that we reserved under. They had to go take stuff for the tv from another room to get ours working. They have a full service resteraunt, but when we went to eat the place was closed for a private event with no notice. Rooms need some sprucing up, staff need some better training in dealing wit guests.

Unique was that it is from 1970 with that still be the case. Bathroom kind of updated. Beds were ok but the rest is from 1970. Interesting smells and really no air movement in the rooms. No AC and missing tub drain plug so shower only. They are trying but a long way to go before they are up to a standard of minimum expectations. The art work was from at least open as it has not changed from when I was a little person who had birthday parties in there. 45 years ago. No joke. Exact same pics. Restaurant is all pre-made items from Sysco as it is also the same stuff as served at the hospital in items. Some staff tried others were not sure why they worked there.

Absolutely nothing and we rarely ever have written a bad review

We were in Portage for a kids baseball tournament and stayed at this hotel, unfortunately the musty smell, AC not working in our room, hotel room door does not swing closed for safety purposes and just lack of overall cleanliness. This is an absolute no for us in the future, they should also consider their clientele that wonders around and sits outside, there was definitely an unsafe feeling and weird activity in and around the hotel.

The staff was very kind and considerate. We ordered pizza and it was very good. The property could use a refresh, it seems a bit run down.

They charged my card even though I didn't make there that night, and had to stay somewhere else that night. I was shuttling a small school bus from Toronto ON to Edmonton AB and it ended up taking longer than expected/hoped to get from where I was that day to this hotel.
