I have stayed at the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel several times over the years and once considered it a reliable airport hotel with a good restaurant, solid value, and an excellent fitness center. That reputation has now completely collapsed. During my most recent stay, I was stunned to discover that the restaurant had been permanently closed and replaced with an absurd in-room takeout card offering a painfully limited menu at inflated prices. What was once a full-service hotel now feels stripped down to the bare minimum while still charging premium rates. Even worse, the property now appears to function largely as a long-term parking operation. The atmosphere no longer resembles a professional hotel experience; it feels more like trying to sleep overnight in a chaotic transit hub or train station waiting area. The room itself reflected the same decline in standards. The bathroom faucet was loose and poorly maintained, and the bathroom lacked even a basic ventilation fan, leaving odors trapped in the room. These are not minor inconveniences—they are signs of a property that has clearly stopped investing in guest comfort and upkeep. The only remaining bright spot is the fitness center, which is still among the best I have seen in an airport hotel. Unfortunately, one good gym cannot compensate for the dramatic deterioration of the overall experience.This hotel has gone from a place I once recommended to one I would actively warn travelers to avoid. I will never stay here again.

It is pretty dated…carpet, furniture, bathtub, noisy person in parking lot at 2am.

Overall very pleased with this hotel. For being an airport hotel, it was pretty quiet. Not alot of road or airplane noise. The rooms were very spacious. Clean. Plenty of outlets. Bathroom was clean and everything worked. A very small sink with minimal counterspace. Service was very friendly. There is a parking lot, but it's always pretty full.

What happened to this hotel? It's been a few years since I've stayed at the Renaissance newark airport. It was always a really nice hotel. I coordinated several large conferences through my company and have stayed before flights as well. It was always a perfect location. We arrived to find out there is now no restaurant, bar, or concierge lounge (we are titanium Marriottstatus). I asked if we could at least get a glass of wine. They had two bottles of cheap rosé. No, thank you. We had to trudge through litter along a very busy road to go to the Hilton to get something to eat and a glass of wine. When I asked about breakfast, I was told there is a little kiosk where they sold muffins. We went there the next morning. There was a sign saying titanium members got complimentary bread, yogurt, and fresh fruit with juice. I had to go back to reception to get a coupon that wasn't offered at checkin. The man at reception told me ha had to deduct points for the stay if he gave me a coupon. So, back to the kiosk. I asked for orange juice. "We don't have any." I asked for yogurt. Again, "we don't have any." I asked for a toasted bagel. It was thrown in a microwave for 15 seconds. I asked what the fresh fruit is. She pointed to a couple of apples. The bed and pillows were fine, and the room was clean. Thank you housekeeping. Never, ever again.

The hallway (floor 6) and lobby reeked of weed. Our room smelled like weed. The furniture and room were beat up and old. Paint flakes from the door frame fell anytime we opened and closed the bathroom door. We couldn't believe this was a Marriott or that it had such great reviews. The front was helpful about getting us a new room that didn’t smell like weed and the shuttle was nice. However, the hotel was still a decent drive from the airport. Would not stay here again.

I stayed here for one night before an early flight. The hotel is clean and still comfortable, though it feels like it has lost some of its former standard—it used to be a nicer property, now it’s more average. It works well for a short stay before catching a flight, but don’t expect much beyond that. The main downside is the lack of proper dining options: the restaurant is definately closed, and the only options onsite are a small self-service vending area or ordering something like pizza. The room itself was clean and perfectly fine. One highlight is the gym, which is really impressive. For dinner, I ended up walking to the nearby Hilton where there is a proper restaurant, which worked well. Overall, a practical airport hotel for convenience, but fairly basic in terms of services
