Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel

How did I miss that the restaurant was permanently closed because the hotel water was contaminated with Legionnaires disease last year? This place is so run down, parking lot is a mess, rooms are dirty and the hallways reek of weed smoke. How is this a Marriott property?

One star. One. Freaking. Star. I walk into the Renaissance Newark Airport and immediately I know I’m in trouble. Busted drawer pulls that look like they lost a fight with a drunk mechanic. I get in the shower and the damn hair from the last three guests is still braided into the drain like some kind of horror movie. I’m trying to rinse off the airport smell and instead I’m getting a free DNA sample from strangers. Thanks, Renaissance. Real classy. Then they got the nerve to call it an “M Lounge.” M for “Maybe you’ll get a bottle of lukewarm water if you’re lucky.” That’s it. No coffee. No snacks. No dignity. Just a sad little table with bottled water like they’re rationing supplies in a war zone. Meanwhile I’m supposed to be a Marriott Ambassador? Buddy, as an Ambassador I’m officially requesting that Marriott come down here, unbolt that big shiny sign from the building, and let it drop straight into one of the crater-sized potholes in the parking lot. Make it official. Let gravity do what customer service clearly won’t. The front desk AM staff? Worst I’ve come across in a long, long time. These people make the DMV look like the Four Seasons. Slow, rude, checked out — like they woke up disappointed they still work here. This property isn’t just bad. It’s an embarrassment to the entire Marriott brand. A straight-up disgrace.

Arrived to stay the night before an early morning flight out of EWR. The staff was friendly but the hotel and rooms are dated and rundown. Comfortable beds and that’s about it. We were told during checkin that we would get two bottles of water and that they offered breakfast down stars in the morning. No water and the breakfast is a grab and go not an actual “breakfast” that you can sit down and enjoy. A little misleading to say the least, No restaurant or bar on site and no restaurants near by other than Hilton that is in walking distance. If we had to do over again we would have stayed at the Hilton instead. The positive was that we got a good nights sleep and the hotel is close to the airport.

No restaurant in the hotel … you have to walk to the Hilton two hotels down the road to get proper food… so you might as well stay at the Hilton as 1- it’s a bit cheaper 2- it has a proper restaurant with a wide range of food to choose from… 3- same exact distance to the airport
