**I rarely write reviews, but I felt this one was important for future travelers to know before booking at Petra Marriott.** -- Do Not Arrange a Driver Through Marriott:-- This was a huge disappointment, and we felt fully taken advantage of. I requested for Marriott to arrange a driver pickup from Amman airport to Marriott. Big mistake. The amount charged ONE WAY to Marriott was 110 JOD. The same driver also charged us 15 JOD ONE WAY to take us to the Visitor Center, which was only 7 minutes away and another 15 JOD to get back to Marriott. We found several yellow cab taxi drivers lined up by the Visitor Center who offered to take us back to Amman airport for ONLY 75 JOD (huge difference) and only charged 10 JOD one way back to Marriott from the Visitor Center. The yellow cab taxi drivers will happily take you around for a much cheaper price. DO NOT arrange a driver through Marriott! They will rip you off badly and you are expected to pay the driver directly, not Marriott – something I found to be unusual. Note: Each time we provided generous tips to our initial driver thinking it was a good deal, but it was the exact opposite, so please be aware and do your research. --Stray Cats by the Outside Tent Area:-- There were about 4 stray cats outside by the tent who made it IMPOSSIBLE for us to enjoy our time and food. I’m allergic to cats so this made me very upset. They were also extremely annoying and would jump on tables for food. A lot of guests were noticeably just as upset. We saw one of the guests throw his basket of bread on the ground because the cat had jumped on his food. The staff tried to get rid of them, but they kept returning. They need a better solution for this. --Amenities - Spa:-- The sign displayed right outside the doors states they are open at 1:00 pm. However, this was not the case. I went down at 1:15 pm and it was closed. I waited for about 15 minutes and still they didn’t open so I went to the front desk to inquire about their opening time and was told they will open at 2:00 – 2:30 pm (no concrete time). I went back at 2:30 pm and it was still closed. At this point, I was extremely annoyed and agitated. I was tired and wanted a massage, so I went back at 3:30 pm, to check out the facility and it was finally open. Note: You can use their spa for free (no massage included), however, be aware that the steam room is shared between men and women – weird and uncomfortable, so I definitely skipped it. --Location:-- Inconvenient. It is on top of a hill with nothing within walking distance, so you’ll easily get bored and feel confined. I recommend staying at a hotel near the Visitor Center – there are plenty of them and you’ll save money on unnecessary taxi fees. --Condition of Hotel/Cleanliness:-- Very outdated. It has a decent outdoor pool area. --Food:-- Limited options and quality of food was mediocre. --Room Service:-- On one of the days, our room service was untimely. We were quoted 30-45 minutes for our food to arrive, but this was also not the case. I had to call the front desk twice to inquire about our food. It took them a total of 1 hour and 20 minutes for our food to arrive. They offered two juices to “make up” for the significant delay which I didn’t feel like made up for the significant delay. Hotel Staff: Nice and respectful. Overall, on a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate this hotel a 2.5 in all aspects.

"Great location and amenities (including pool and spa), but rooms were disappointing."

Location to Petra was amazing, shuttle bus was also very effective at getting down and back from Petra, which was a flat 10 jod taxi. Staff were very helpful.

Rooms were not particularly comfortable and food within the hotel was highly taxed.

"Close to Petra"

Good sized room and food options with very friendly and helpful staff. The site is currently a building site though and this was not disclosed. It is a short drive from Petra main entrance making it easy to access (approx. 10 mins in a car)
