This is an older resort, though it will be fully renovated in 6 - 9 months of our visit in mid-May 2026. There was no construction going on that we saw. Our condo was dated but very comfortable & quite large. There was a smallish, but very adequate, usable & fully stocked kitchen, complete with oven, stove, microwave & good sized refrigerator. There is a dishwasher & garbage disposal, as well.
Next to the kitchen was a large dining area, with a dull sized table & four chairs. It was large enough to comfortably seat six & definitely able to seat eight, comfortably close to one another. Next to the dining area is a large living room with a convertible sofa & two chairs with ottomans. I don't think the chairs were converable like the sofa. I believe it opens to a queen sized bed. The living room has a nice fireplace for cozy gatherings & a large TV mounted to the wall above. It was plenty roomy. At its end the living room leads to two choices, sliding glass doors to an outside patio with a table & chairs, or entry to s sunroom, decorated with wooden slat walls & windows on all sides, also fully furnished with a sofa & chairs. On one side of the sun room, is another set of sliding glass doors that lead out to the patio area.
Across from the dining area is a small hallway, which includes a coat closet & a washer/dryer directly ahead. To one side is a full bath with a large vanity having double sinks, a half-height partition behind which is a toilet & a full sized bathtub with a shower. I had requested a shower seat & handheld shower. While they weren't set up when we arrived, the maintenance department came, delivered the shower chair & placed it in the bathtub and installed the handheld shower. If you need either of those things & are able to step over the tub, they are available at your request. They also have units with roll-in showers, though I didn't see them & can't comment specifically. However, if you need a roll-in shower let them know when you make your reservations. As a side note. I asked about a unit with a handheld shower & shower seat when I called to reserve, I was told they were not available. However I looked up the property online, where it stated that those accommodations were available, soI asked again on our arrival & they were in fact available. If you need accommodation, I'd advise you persist in your requests because there are available & I believe the person I spoke with initially was simply not aware of their availability.
The bathroom can be accessed both through the small hallway previously mentioned and through a walk-in closet, which is attached to the bedroom. The walk-in closet includes a long rack to accommodate a good deal of clothing, easily enough for a week for two people. There's also a safe in this closet, along with extra blankets & pillows. Having a walk-in closet was a pleasant surprise.
The bedroom is an average size. We reserved a King-sized room, so it may be less cramped if a Queen-sized room was reserved. I'm unsure about that. My husband & I are both quite tall, so we felt a little cramped, but not terribly so. The bedroom was typical, with a bed, night stands on each side & a large dresser. The dresser was larger than you typically find in a hotel & each side had at least four drawers. We stayed for four days & didn't use all of the drawers. The bedroom also had a ceiling fan, which was a nice option. At the end of the room, there's a door that leads out to the sunroom & the patio.
The sunroom is smallish. In my opinion, it would be more appealing if it were converted to bedroom space, or to outdoor space as part of the patio. It would expand the space in the bedroom, which we felt to be a bit cramped. Expanding the bedroom into the sunroom would allow more space for the dresser & perhaps a chair & small table, which would make the space more comfortable. Or perhaps it could be used as a covered area attached to the patio, in order to expand the private outdoor space, which we thought was a nice bonus.
This whole back area, which includes the sunroom & patio overlooks a large pond with a fountain. It's a petty, relaxing area, which would be very nice as a private coffee, lunch & dining area. During our stay, there were Canada Geese in the area & baby geese chicks. The area was not overcome with geese, but instead there were just a few families we saw around the several ponds on the property, which added to the ambiance.
Overall, we found the condo to be well laid out & very comfortable. Though the decorations were slightly dated, we didn't consider it to be problematic. Everything was tastefully decorated. We didn't spend most of our time at the condo, so it was a nice place to have our morning coffee & to get ready for the day and a nice place to come at the end of the day to relax & unwind before bed.
We brought some breakfast items, but ended up eating at their grill on-site. Their breakfasts are very reasonably priced, service was fast & the hostess was absolutely lovely. We each got a full breakfast, including omelettes with three additions (There was a long list of choices that could be added to omelettes), choice of toast, english muffin or biscuit, and hash browns for $14.00, plus coffee. A couple of fried eggs was even less expensive, at $4.99 (I believe - might have been $3.99). Lunches & dinners were a bit higher, but not prohibitively higher. Most were in the $14.99 range for adult meals. Children's meals were less expensive.
The entire property is lovely. There are several ponds around the property, each with a fountain at its center. They are tastefully spaced about the property. Underneath the grill where we had our breakfasts, there is an indoor pool &an activity center. We didn't visit that area ourselves, but we saw severa; people coming & going with golf clubs going to and from miniature golf. There is also a nice outdoor pool which was very popular among guests.
The resort offers a variety of activities. Upon registering, you provide your cell number, which offers you a way to communicate personally with customer care & receive a personal answer. The resort also used this as a means to alert guests about upcoming activities. I though this was unique, effective & a very personalized way of keeping in touch with guests.
I would highly recommend this resort to others. We thought it was just lovely & it was convenient to sites in the area. We bought a multi-day ticket to Colonial Williamsburg & also visited both the Jamestown museum & the newer Jamestown Archeological site/ You should be aware that each of these Jamestown sites requires a separate entrance fee because the museum is operated federally & the archeological site is operated by the state. We spent most of our time at the archeological site. It is relatively new, having been recently discovered.
It was thought that the original site of the Jamestown settlement had been washed away during a storm; however it was recently discovered that it had not been. Several areas have been discovered & some reconstructed. Others have been partially reconstructed to show how the original buildings were constructed. It's very informative & I appreciated seeing the original means of construction, as well as the archeological excavation of the church & bell tower from start to finish. There are multiple areas of excavation & those who were working there were very open to discussing what they were doing & what had been discovered since they began working there. This area also has a large museum, which highlights much of what has been discovered so far at this site.
We did not get to visit Yorktown, which is nearby to Jamestown, but I would highly recommend planning your stay to include all four of these sights. The Powhatan Inn was the perfect place to stay. It was a lovely resort with lots to offer in it's own rite, plus it's centrally located near all of the historical sites in the area, so it's a very convenient place to stay if you want to see them. It is also close to William & Mary College & it would be a wonderful place to stay if you or your relatives were interested in touring, or if you were interested in attending events there.
