Carambola Beach Resort St. Croix, US Virgin Islands

We asked around, and apparently, Marriott recently took over this place. It looked to me like it was in bad shape and is now on the rise. Goods; the beach is fantastic and well maintained, which it should be, because it's the centerpiece of the property. It's beautiful. The beach lawn was impeccable. The main building was gorgeous, the pool was really nice and clean (we heard that was an improvement from the past). Our room was clean and the beds comfortable, the AC worked and the shower worked well too. The staff was nice, parking was easy, the kitchenette was all in order. The view from our room's porch was a picture of paradise (picture included). We also met a really nice property cat that adopted us. We named him "Fred" (he never told us his real name), and he loved leftover pulled pork. He had one damaged eye, but he was a really nice cat (picture included), who hung out on the porch with us most days. Bads; I felt like they were in the middle of re-building. Many of the buildings had broken eaves, overgrown shrubs, moldy/rotten ground panels (not really affecting us, so no big deal). The drives were damaged and washed away, many of the "little things" seemed like they were being worked on, but not there yet...the foot-wash stations by the beach didn't work, we were short on towels, soap, coffee, and bedsheets (no problem, they took care of us when we asked), we battled wasps on the porch, etc... Overall, it seemed like a place that was really close to being really good, but they're close...but not there yet. We commented many times that, "If they keep at it, this place is going to be phenomenal in a couple years."

The omelette station was the ONLY decent option for the “buffet”. Beautiful grounds. Nice room.

Incredibly overpriced breakfast “buffet” with very few options and pathetic quality. The fact that there was a “continental” option was a complete joke. No host/hostess to greet/seat us and the “waitress” came to our table ONLY to deliver the bill.

We loved our stay at Carambola! The staff is incredibly friendly, happy to answer questions, and just connect. I love to ask favorite places to eat and activities that are a must! We ate at the restaurant on site every breakfast and it's just breathtaking, the food was pretty great too. be sure to try the chop chop and salt fish on the weekends! Our omelette station chefs worked their magic with flare and fun. My daughter enjoyed the daily bacon and pastries. Again the staff was incredible and we loved seeing our favorite maître d' Shinkike, every morning! Also a shout out to Elsa... who managed our check-ins and checkouts like a camp and even helped us move rooms the first night... The ocean front was incredible and we equally split out time between the ocean and the pool, fun waves, never crowded (which amazed us). The beach was very clean lots of chairs and umbrellas! Amazing- go there!

Beach was ok for the most part but didn’t have a volleyball for the net.

Facilities were disappointing dirty barely cleaned up after customers, roaches in the rooms , out of food at the resort long wait times. Highly disappointed.

The location was the best part. This is a resort with a wonderful locatiobut the facilities are tiered. We only stayed one night and I am glad because the price was to high in my opinion. A lot of details were missed. Things like no sugar for the coffee in the room and it was hard to communicate with the property because they didn't have a phone in the room to call the front desk or room service. As far as room service it was not the best. When you call to put your order in because the app didn't work the phone went to voice mail and you had to call multiple times. It took a long time to arrive and was pricey which is normal for vacation. The only reason I am complaining about little things is because of the price per night. 350 per night is a lot of money and details are very important when you are paying that kind of money. We still enjoyed our stay but wouldn't return or recommend.

This was our 8th trip to Carambola. There is no more beautiful atmosphere: beach, trees, lawn than Carambola. Marriott service and upkeep has much to desire. Picture our bathroom door below, a towel, the door was removed. No microwave, no remote for the air unit was there upon arrival. Moldings missing from windows. They're cannibalizing some units to repair others. Missing pictures on the walls. Vines 20' long growing out of roof gutters. Way, way below Motel 6 standards. It's very sad, we loved the place. Proximity to the beach, spacious rooms. The bathrooms are excellent.

Power outages, price and it is not close to any stores.

Best beach we’ve been to in the Caribbean. Beautiful extensive grounds.

Poor water pressure. Bed too soft for me. Average food with several items from menu unavailable.
