Hotel Riu Palace Tropical Bay - All Inclusive

We just returned from a week at this resort. Overall we had a wonderful time and would definitely come back. Maid service was a little inconsistent as far as timing, but they did a great job. The reservation system is probably my only real complaint. They only have two seating options and the restaurants are small for a resort this size. The buffet is good, but can get old after a couple nights. The staff were all extremely friendly with smiles and hello's all around. Jelani and the staff by the pools kept us hydrated all day and then Alecia, Krystal and Bianca took over at the Daquiri bar at night. We stayed in room 3118 which is a ocean front suite, we really enjoyed the location and oversized balcony. We would definitely return.

The beach, I liked that everything was in walking distance. The staff were incredible.

I didn’t like that there wasn’t an elevator up to the main lobby. Ramp was too steep. Also the seating in the lobby was so uncomfortable.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel during our honeymoon. We had informed the hotel in advance that we were celebrating our honeymoon, and although we didn’t receive a special surprise or amenity, it honestly wasn’t necessary because the hotel itself is truly amazing. The rooms were beautiful, very clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable. But what we loved the most was the kindness of the people who work there. We are from South America and we don’t speak English fluently, but we were still able to communicate and everyone was very patient and friendly. We didn’t have anyone at the hotel who spoke our language, except for one of the entertainment staff members: SUPER MARIO. Mario, you were a rockstar! He helped us many times to understand how things worked in the resort and made us feel very welcome. Now, there were two small things that we didn’t enjoy as much: The cocktails could definitely be improved. Many drinks were not very tasty, and the ones that contained lemon juice seemed to use bottled juice. After the second drink, it would upset the stomach a little. The fruits also weren’t very flavorful, and you could notice that in the drinks. The variety of cocktails was good, but we have stayed at other RIU hotels where the drinks were better. The themed restaurants were not quite at the same level as the buffet. Some dishes felt like they were missing flavor and richness. However, the buffet was absolutely amazing — the food there was truly wonderful. I would also like to highlight that both in the buffet and in the themed restaurants the service was always warm and kind. This was our first time in Jamaica and we completely fell in love — with the culture, the kindness and hospitality of the people, and especially the beautiful landscapes. The beach was dreamy and always looked beautiful. But the best people in the hotel were the lifeguards! They were incredibly kind, caring, and attentive. It was truly a joy to spend our honeymoon there. We hope to come back soon!

This is my fourth time as this resort in 20 years. I adore it here. The beach and water are without compare. Great food choices and the amazing staff are huge wins.

Worst Riu hotel we’ve ever stayed in. Firstly, it’s not on Negril’s 7 mile beach but a smaller bay further up, although you can get a taxi to 7 mile beach costing 20USD each way. Reception desk exceptionally rude and unhelpful from arrival onwards. Whilst the hotel itself is on a nice beach, it’s ruined by the Butlins style “entertainment” which kicks off every afternoon with booming music and entertainment crew screeching on microphones. As for the pools, they are very small and right next to each other so there is little peace to be found from the constant racket. Considering the average age of guests was 40-60 years, the entertainment was very childish. The food was mediocre, lukewarm, canteen style, nothing like other Riu’s and you’re expected to tip every meal even though you serve yourself. In fact, tips are constantly expected everywhere and if you don’t, service drops considerably which shows it’s all fake hospitality! The one highlight was a reggae band which we really enjoyed until some big headed guest asked if he could sing. His bloody ego meant we had to sit through him screeching 2 rock songs (he couldn’t sing btw) while the real singer just stood there looking peed off. Why wasn’t this guy told to stick to karaoke night? If you’re looking for a peaceful chill out holiday, this is not the place ……..

Overall was a not bad experience except for the volumes of music played at nighttime after the main shows. My friends and i enjoy sitting out at night and chatting about our day.People had to yell over this annoying loudness to be heard. Several people said they complained to the DJ but were ignored. When I went up to request it be turned down the night of Feb, 23,2026 i was told it would be, but it was NOT. It actually sounded LOUDER.When i went over again to request less volume I saw the DJ sitting in a chair on her cell phone 50 feet away from the DJ booth.Said here name was shelly?..I then noticed 2 young boys(hotel guests) sitting in the DJ booth allowed to run things , volume included. I could not believe this. I lodged a complaint with a , SANDY, who I was told was in charge of entertainment and was assured she would look into it. But the next night it was back to uncomfortable volumes, unaceptable !. On our last night Feb, 25,2026 we were hoping to have a nice evening but AGAIN were irritated by the ridiculous volume being played by the DJ. AGAIN people stated they had complained to the DJ with NO RESULTS. I went again to request the volume be turned down,different DJ this night. when asked she refused to state her name When I asked she ignored me again. When I asked again she actually put on headphones so she couldnt hear me. At this point I video recorded her so I could identify her to the manager later.This behaviour is BEYOND RUDE and acceptable.

1. Staff were vey welcoming and accommodating Didn’t expect tips 2. Ocean front room basic but nice it was close to everything . Room was serviced every day. You can request things like soft pillows excetra through the R.U.I app. It works wonderfully. 3. Restaurants can be booked through the app only 2 day in advance. I didn’t have any trouble. We liked the food at the steakhouse, but the way the service was handled was ridiculous. Absolutely no ambience. The Italian restaurant was lovely, the food was excellent The French restaurant had a nice ambience and the food was very tasteful. 4. The beach is usually very calm . The sand is nice and soft. You get bar service on the beach. You can always get a chair at the pool and on the beach. 5. You can get jerk chicken on the beach from 12-3. It is excellent. 6. Entertainment at night was a hit and miss. 7. You can get coffee 24 7. The coffee shop in the lobby only opens at 10am-12 pm. 8. The buffet was vey extensive and tasteful. 9. A lovely place to stay. Ocean Front was expensive but I liked the convenience of being close to everything.

Super nice hotel, not too spread out but still enough restaurants and amenities. Food is honestly delicious everywhere you go and fresh. Beach is to die for, very clean (more than the Riu Negril), with beautiful view of sunset. Plenty of lounger chairs for all, no need to reserve. Staff is extremely friendly, entertaining and not pushy at all. Would highly recommend scuba diving with Donovan, a very gentle and patient instructor. Beware, transit time from airport to hotel is about 2 hours.

I want to say it was great but a few things happened . One afternoon I came back and the door was left open . OK the guy forgot to shut it. I let that go The next day I came back and the maid was in the room and my closet door was open. I let that go because maybe just maybe I left it open. The next day I came back from the beach and noticed my brush had black hair in it. Now im a platinum blonde. That was the most disturbing part. I reported it. I didn't get any kind of manager apology or anything. The guy at the desk was nice and couldn't believe it. On the last day I was so looking forward to grabbing a cappuccino at the upstairs bar before I left. I called almost an hour before my bus was boarded of course now I had to call again and rush to get a seat . No cappuccino not even a bottle of water. I feel so angry on this bus right now. No compensation no apology. I will come back next year. I love alot of the staff . I love the beach . The food needs some work. This is my 4th visit and I really do like it here. But I hope this never happens again
