Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Abilene, an IHG Hotel

Great hotel and even better STAFF!!! Man that was at counter went above and beyond to help us out. Very friendly and accomodating. Rooms were large and CLEAN. Breakfast was GREAT, as was location. Would definately stay again.

Place smells like feet; it’s old and worn; the pull out sofa mattress looked like it was purchased in the 80’s and was angled; they didn’t have a full set of sheets or pillows for it; the soap holder on the wall in the shower fell off; they had lotion in the shower instead of soap; the shampoo contain did not dispense soap because it was broken; the treadmill in the “fitness center” was broken; the weights consisted of 5, 10, 20, 40, 50lbs dumbbells; the breakfast is, well, likely to cause the runs. The people do seem nice.

Stayed here while on a work assignment and had a concerning experience my first night. I found an insect in the bed and woke up with multiple bites overnight. I reported it immediately and the front desk moved me to another room, after which I had no further bites. I appreciated that the staff responded promptly, however the incident caused significant discomfort and led me to check out early. I submitted photos and documentation through IHG Guest Relations. The hotel later stated their pest control identified the insect as a “dry food bug,” and based on that determination they declined any refund or compensation. Sharing this so future guests can inspect their rooms upon arrival. The breakfast quality itself wasn’t bad, but availability was a constant issue. Food would run out early and often wasn’t replenished. If you didn’t make it within the first 30 minutes of breakfast starting, there was a good chance many items would already be gone. For a hotel where breakfast is part of the stay, it felt poorly managed and inconsistent day to day.

Upon arrival, one of our keys would not work. Had to go back down to lobby and get corrected. Then again the next day it happened again. When turning on bathroom light, the exhaust fan come on and was very noisy, annoying. Breakfast, Maybe a couple of tablespoons of eggs were left. The next morning, the coffee canister empty and decaf was barely luke warm. Limited power outlets. Did not enjoy this stay at all.

Room could have been cleaner, toilet had urine on seat and rim. Tv didn't work. Otherwise it wasn't horrible.
