Awkward check in

Location is great, right downtown and it’s easy to walk anywhere.

I had arranged for late arrival, but there was no one at the desk and it took me quite a while to find someone . Then I was checked into a room that hadn’t been cleaned. Once I let the person at the front desk know she checked me into another room.

The hotel is in downtown Benicia and extremely walkable.

From the moment you entered the front door there was chipped linoleum on the floor, an ancient elevator that creaked and groaned and stopped two inches below the floor so you could trip getting out. The room itself was OLD with chipped paint, broken down, armless chairs. The view of the water is over trash cans and an alley. The bathroom is another trip hazard with the threshold one inch above the floor. The toilet was extremely low, the seat was broken, the shower was an old jacuzzi that no longer worked but had 2-3 ft sides that you had to step over to use the tub. Needless to say we didn’t stay there as it was a safety hazard and a dump.

I love staying in old hotels, and the UNION fits the bill perfectly. I also appreciated the restaurant and bar attached-so delicious and convenient. The setting on the central street of Benecia just provided easy access to shops, restaurants, and exploration. I would stay there again.

Great location, historic hotel.

Inexistant breakfast. One towel stank so much we couldn’t use it. And there is no staff onsite after 5 to ask for little things like that.
