Residence Inn by Marriott Newark Elizabeth/Liberty International Airport

United put us up in this hotel due to a flight interruption. It was not very nice. It was dark, dingy, and our room had a horrible antiseptic smell. And the windows did not open. Breakfast was OK, workout room was OK.

I have been a elite member of Marriott Bonvoy for almost 7 years and I have never experienced before being denied adding my bonvoy number and my credit card to charge the room under the pretext that my company was paying for the stay. So I could not get credited for any expense I would do at the location, nor could I use any of my status perks. So basically I felt like a second class citizen not worthy of being a platinum Bonvoy guest. Furthermore, the hotel itself felt more like a cheap motel : the gym was not properly cooled (probably saving on AC), same as the hallways…the cardio bike was out of order…no coffee in the morning..someone sleeping with a blanket in the lobby..Next time I have to go on a work trip in Newark, I will probably pay myself to stay in another hotel nearby if my company decides to use that hotel (I will definitely make sure to write a report to my company’s hotel department so they will Reevaluate that choice)

Room decor and some of the furniture could do with some renovation. Also noticed some of the door handles were loose and in a bad state of repair.

Average non enthusiastic what do you need whats your name here is your room key down the hall to the right is elevators. Start walking down the hall feels like you’re walking to your prison Cell. Get into the room and all the walls, including the door have dirty handprints all over it. The room looks like it was a frat party room at one point with walls still damaged. that slumlord apartment paint over all the light switches look pretty sure there’s a painted cockroach in the wall somewhere. The mystery stains on the carpet, the appliance rattle when running patch work done to the shower walls the doors look like they’ve been kicked in at one point. Pretty sure this was a homeless, migrant shelter for a while.

is a good hotel, but you need a car to move around, and they charge you $15.00 dollars every day for parking.

I loved the hotel. Very clean and spacious. I was surprised there was no pool but didn’t affect the rating of the place
