Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa & Marina

This was our first stay at this property. We chose it because it was an easy drive from home. Spent the weekend to celebrate our anniversary and I’m doubtful we’ll be back. We are WOH members and have been to many different Hyatt properties stateside and internationally. This being a AAA Four Diamond resort had my expectations high. The listed property amenities seemed promising however much work needs to be done to live up to being considered “luxury”. There was no valet and no bell service. Our room showed much wear and tear. The headboard was ripped in multiple places and there was a giant stain on the carpet. Though stated in the website, there was no chair side service for drinks or food at the pool. Only one of the listed poolside restaurants was open during our stay and was not open at all on Sunday which meant if we wanted drinks or food while at the pool we had to wait until noon and then go all the way to the other side of the hotel for service. How can there be no food or drink options available at the pool on a weekend day? The main restaurant, Waters Edge, needs a full retraining in service. No host to assist with seating each time we went and we had to search for someone to help us find a table. What was the point of making a reservation? When our food arrived we were missing an item, and by the time it finally got to us we were already done with our meal. The table next to us had multiple issues with their order and ultimately left. The food itself was ok but nothing special and the dinner atmosphere felt more like an Applebees than a restaurant at a Four Diamond resort. We did not travel with children so this didn’t effect us, but I did notice the activity pool and waterslides were closed all weekend. When I asked staff about all of this they said it was like this before Memorial Day, however I had called before booking and specifically asked if all the amenities and restaurants would be open this weekend as I didn’t want to book if they weren’t and I was assured the entire property would be open. My husband had arranged for flowers to be delivered to the hotel for our anniversary but the staff had no idea what happened to them once we got delivery confirmation. We’re still waiting for this issue to be resolved. We did enjoy sitting by the pool and the adults only hot tub. The drinks and service at Michener’s were good too, especially the charcuterie and espresso martinis. But none of that’s enough to make the 3 hour trip again or justify the cost.

Overall, this is a beautiful property with high potential that is long overdue for updates and renovations. Renovating the bathrooms in the hotel rooms should be the first priority. The water pressure was very weak, and water took a long time to heat up. Bathroom fixtures like the shower head and the faucet were loose and not fixed securely to the surface. The exhaust fan is very old and ineffective. Definitely not a luxury experience. The amenities do not seem to be very well maintained. For example, the mini golf area had leaves and debris all over the place that could be easily removed with a leaf blower each day. There are no dedicated pickleball courts. Currently, they are just taped lines over the existing tennis courts. This makes playing difficult for either tennis or for pickleball because of the overlapping lines. Would love to see dedicated tennis and pickleball courts in the future. Service at Michener's library was very slow and inattentive, despite the restaurant not being busy at all. It took about 10-15 minutes just to get two draft beers. The quality of the food is very mediocre for the price. There are a lot better options for food in the area outside of the property. There was a donut in the showcase of Bay Country Market that had a hair on it. The staff was also sort of rude, and the service was slow. Unfortunately, my wife and I were not able to use the spa, as all of the services were booked out for the entire weekend. All we really wanted to use was the sauna and the steam room, which was only available with the purchase of a separate spa service. Would have been nice to have access to the sauna and steam room, in general, without requiring a spa service separately. We would have had no problem paying for access to just the sauna and steam room, separately from the other services, but this was not an option. I really hope the Hyatt prioritizes renovations and improvements to this property in the near future, because it is a beautiful waterfront property that would be one of the best hotel experiences in the area if treated with more care and attention.

Spacious rooms, ample lighting, caring and attentive customer service, and well kept hotel grounds are a few of the reason to stay here. For work, the floors are well cushioned, it's easy to navigate through the hallways, and the acoustics don't bounce all over the place.

I never knew this hotel was here in Cambridge, MD. As you pull up to the facility you are wowed by the combination of nature and architecture. The rooms are huge, clean and super cozy. Not to mention for the prices are fair for the experience that you get. Can't wait to visit for leisure.

The resort is awesome… lots to see and do!

The bed was very uncomfortable! For the price it should have a comfortable bed.

The outdoor views and walking paths were very nice.

My room was on the ground level, only a few dozen yards from the ground level pool tables and bar. There was very little courtesy for guests who were there for the purpose of getting a good night's sleep. I eventually called the front desk (which I had to do from my cell phone bc none of the buttons worked from the room phone) at 11:00 pm to ask if they have a curfew on the pool tables. They told me they would close the double doors between the pool tables and the hallways of the rooms. Either they didn't follow through with this or the closed doors made no difference because I could still hear people playing pool from my room. And when I say playing pool, I don't mean just their conversation - I mean I could hear them shooting and the balls knocking into the table, etc. I selected this hotel so I could get a good night's sleep before an open water race that I had to wake up at 5:30 am for. I don't think I got to sleep until after 12:30 am due to the noise. Moreover the beds were not what I would expect from this level of hotel. The sheets were some terrible unbreathable fabric that were incredibly hot. If you plan to stay here I would highly recommend that you request a room AWAY from the ground level and any other amenities that are on-site. The rooms are not sound proofed at all. Next time I plan to save some money and stay at the Holiday Inn across the street.

The food selection for lunch and dinner needs more variety between the two food venues - they were the same the only difference was that one was a grab and go and the other was a sit down.
