OUTRIGGER Kāʻanapali Beach Resort

Location was great on Kaanapali beach. Clean rooms. Kiosk for chair rentals were great, nice people.

Bed was hard, uncomfortable.

We had a wonderful experience. Friendly staff and beautiful grounds. Had breakfast at Maui Brewing and it was delicious. We really liked that we could text the front desk with questions. Our housekeeper Vangie left us sweet notes. The location is perfect! We will come back again!

Extra charges for parking and internet

We stayed in the Aouli wing in a signature partial ocean view on the third floor. Once we got over the slight shock of the quality of the room, it was actually not too bad. The “renos” were just a small facelift. The building is old, with no elevator. This was only really a problem at check-in and check-out. There is little to no sound-proofing between rooms. The room was clean mostly the entire time, however, the bathroom was not clean at all when we checked in. The toilet/shower is quite small, with a weird metal bar right at head height that I was constantly dodging to avoid a concussion while in the shower. The housekeeping has a schedule, but we found that they didn’t really adhere to it, and may show up at 9am and (somewhat rudely) kick you out of the room, or they might not show up until after 4pm, right when you are heading back from the beach wanting to shower and clean up before a dinner reservation. Lots of times, the fresh towels brought to the room were stained. As well, the hallways were never vacuumed during our entire 8 night stay. The room being old meant that the latching mechanism for the balcony was clearly broken and we ended up being locked outside on our balcony. Luckily we had our phones and could call for assistance, but overall not a great experience and no real apology from the hotel either. Overall our stay was good, and we would considering staying here again, due to value and location. Positives: •Basically the whole resort is close to the beach, excellent location as it’s close to black rock and to Whaler’s Village. •Maui Brewing Co is good •Small resort, with lots of green space. We could always find a lawn chair to lounge on •Better than expected views from our “partial” ocean view room. Negatives: •Breakfast buffet was only open on some days but was not posted, therefore we never went. •Not a lot of food options on resort, or variety. The pool bar restaurant had incorrect pricing on their items, buyer beware •No microwave in room •Didn’t find the staff particularly welcoming or helpful. The person who checked us out made us feel incredibly awkward as we were trying to confirm other information we were given by staff the previous day. At no point were we asked about our stay, and was also not given our final receipt (of all the additional charges such as parking, resort fee, etc). I assumed it would be emailed, but it was not. I had to call multiple times and chase down the receipt once I returned home. •The hotel advertises and promotes the Outrigger canoe excursion as an exclusive cultural activity that can only be booked via the concierge. This is untrue. You can book directly with the company that offers it for much much cheaper. This is an absolute ripoff to book and pay crazy amounts of money through the concierge. When we went for the tour, we realized that the others were not staying at the hotel, and it was then that I discovered it was MUCH cheaper to book through the company. It’s definitely false advertising to claim you can only book this excursion through the concierge for an inflated price (plus concierge tip).

The hotel and grounds are beautifully kept, the rooms very clean and all the workers lovely and friendly. The swimming pool isn’t great but it’s ok. I knew we have to pay hotel tax but I thought the $ 25 for self parking was rather expensive but charging $85 for two sunbeds and umbrella per day was outrageous, especially if you were staying for 16 nights, obviously I didn’t pay it!! That’s what really annoyed me because the beach is fantastic and we love to sit/lay on the beach.

Expérience très décevante dans cet hôtel. Le personnel est majoritairement désagréable, en particulier une certaine Hélène à l’accueil, qui manque totalement d’empathie et de professionnalisme. Le service au restaurant n’était pas mieux : accueil froid et personnel peu aimable. Je tiens tout de même à préciser que quelques employés ont été professionnels et agréables, ainsi qu’une manager dont je ne me souviens malheureusement plus du nom, qui a su résoudre plusieurs problèmes rencontrés durant notre séjour. Autre point important : l’hôtel est très éloigné de tout, ce qui complique les déplacements. Enfin, nous avions réservé avec les petits-déjeuners inclus, mais ils nous ont malgré tout été facturés à la fin du séjour, ce qui est inadmissible. Globalement, une expérience décevante qui ne correspond pas au standing attendu.

Loved our stay at The Outrigger Ka'anapali Beach Resort. Upgraded to beach view and courtyard. Enjoyed sitting on the Lanai watching the the waves crash the beach. We had a great time on the beach. Loved the atmosphere in the restaurant, bar. Would recommend. Found the food and beverage to be expensive and not living up to the price.
