"A dream mini vacation in a dream resort!"

10.0

My husband and I just had a perfectly lovely stay at Bishop’s Lodge in Santa Fe. Everyone we encountered from the moment of arrival to the moment of departure was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. We received a good bit of history on the property during the golf cart ride from reception to our suite. The grounds of the property are just beautiful and meticulously maintained. We stayed in a Kiva Suite (Kiva Moon) and it was an absolute dream! The decor was simply gorgeous. The bed and linens were plush, soft, and so very comfortable. The bathroom was out of this world decadent with the soaking tub near the kiva fireplace, the copper sink, and the extra large shower. My husband especially enjoyed the rain shower head. I loved having my morning tea out on the sitting area of the patio both mornings. So lovely with the fire on! The most wonderful thing about the Kiva Moon Suite was watching the sunset each night from our own private hot tub. Amazing!! We thoroughly enjoyed our meals (breakfast and dinner) at SkyFire Restaurant. The wait staff are all excellent and many even recognized us by name. Maxemiliano stood out to us, though, as he was such a delight. The only negative thing I have to say is that we didn’t get to enjoy this remarkable resort longer. Two nights just weren’t enough.

"Have to go back for another visit!"

10.0

From check-in to check-out, everyone was friendly, helpful, efficient and just plain nice. The deep soaking bath was improved with the bath salts. The lemon, mint, blueberry water at the pool was refreshing and delightful. Had a fantastic experience.

"Dream Like."

10.0

Absolutely incredible hotel. Great place to relax and unwind. After a long day of travel, staying here felt like I was floating around in a dream. A favorite aspect of mine, that you won't see on the website, the water pressure in the shower is amazing! Will definitely come back.

We especially love the happy hour experience at the restaurant. Our server Jenna was exceptional and because of her we will be back. Thanks Jenna. What a lovely place to enjoy the sunset and drinks with loved ones. Make sure you get the fish tacos.

"Beautiful Setting, but Inconsistent Service and Community Disconnect"

6.0

Pros and Cons – Bishop’s Lodge, Santa Fe Pros: šŸŒ„ Beautiful, peaceful setting in the foothills šŸŽ Excellent horseback riding team (special thanks to Ricky and Molly) šŸŽØ Fun and memorable activities (Painting at the Stables, Archery, Feed the Horses) šŸ³ Some good dining experiences and warm service from select staff Cons: šŸ›Œ Poor lighting in rooms, slow internet, inconsistent housekeeping šŸ“§ Frustrating pre-arrival concierge experience and activity booking errors šŸ“Ÿ Multiple billing mistakes and overcharges at checkout šŸ›Žļø Inconsistent service at SkyFire restaurant and during checkout šŸ–ļø Poorly maintained pool area with no food service āŒ Visible local community protests and environmental concerns šŸØ Overall experience felt corporate and soulless compared to other Auberge resorts After two exceptional stays at Blue Sky in Utah, we wanted to try another Auberge property offering horseback riding on-site. Unfortunately, we found Bishop’s Lodge lacking compared to Blue Sky. šŸ›Œ Rooms We stayed in the Tesuque section, where the bedroom had very limited lighting and often felt like a cave. I frequently had to use a flashlight to find belongings because the lamps and bedside reading lights didn’t adequately illuminate the room. The complimentary internet connection was incredibly slow (no more than 15mb/s), making even basic browsing frustrating. Housekeeping and turndown service were inconsistent. Oddly, we received a ā€œwelcomeā€ letter on our last night — after already being there five nights. When we ran out of the in-room Three Sisters amenities and followed instructions to request a refill, it took about two days to arrive. Ordering in-room dining required calling the front desk to be transferred rather than having a direct line — an unnecessary and irritating step. Even then, dining staff sometimes confused our room number. A small but annoying detail: the room’s smoke detector had a blinking light that became very bright and distracting at night. šŸ“§ Pre-Arrival Experience My travel agent connected me with Kimber Falkinburg, who was quick to welcome us and connected me with the concierge, Marama. Unfortunately, Marama did not respond to emails from October through January until my travel agent was copied back on the communications. Compared to Blue Sky (where activity options, details, and pricing were provided in one clear PDF), Bishop’s Lodge's activity planning felt unorganized and required a lot of detective work. Errors continued: Marama booked our horseback ride for the wrong day — and added an extra rider not in our party. When I flagged the issue, her response was: "I manage the payment of the horseback ride—promise I will not charge you. ā˜ŗļø We are still having little booking hiccups with our platform—apologies!" However, at checkout, the incorrect charge still appeared on our folio. After departure, Marama emailed again to say: "I understand that my colleague accidentally charged you for 4 riders..." I found this unprofessional — both in shifting blame and in not following through on her original promise to resolve the issue proactively. šŸ›ƒ Checkout I arranged a pickup for our departure morning, but when the time passed without arrival, I called the front desk — only to be told the bellhop was busy with another guest. Pickup was delayed by about 15 minutes. In contrast to other luxury resorts, Bishop’s Lodge did not proactively confirm departure logistics the day before or ensure a timely farewell. I also identified two overcharges (the horseback riding mistake and missing Virtuoso breakfast credits). I emailed about these concerns the day before checkout but never received a response. I had to bring it up in person at checkout and am still awaiting corrections. šŸ‘„ Staff We had excellent experiences with several staff members: Ricky and Molly from the horseback riding team David (third-party artist) who led "Painting at the Stables" Mark (I believe that was his name), who ran activities like archery and "Feed the Horses" earlier in the week A very kind in-room dining attendant who was attentive and personal each time he delivered food On the flip side, the experience at SkyFire was mixed. The younger hostess was often absent when we arrived and not particularly welcoming. SkyFire’s general staff was mostly good, but service was very slow on Friday when the restaurant became busier. šŸ–ļø Pool The pool area was lightly staffed. Towels ran out. Used chairs weren’t promptly cleaned and reset. There was no food service by the pool. We likely would have used this amenity more if there had been better oversight and service. ā›‘ļø Community Impact One of the most unsettling aspects was seeing anti–Bishop’s Lodge signs throughout Tesuque regarding the resort's wastewater leach field plans — and active protests at the entrance during our departure. The resort’s advertising about being "immersed in the vibrant culture of Santa Fe" felt tone-deaf when you see firsthand how much local opposition there is. Final Thoughts While Bishop’s Lodge offers moments of beauty, the overall experience fell short of the service and soul we expect from a true luxury resort.

"Lovely experience at Bishop's Lodge"

10.0

We had a marvelous experience at Bishop's Lodge! There are lots of hiking trails near the resort that we took advantage of. The pool is also lovely and a great place to relax with a good book. The employees were extremely helpful and friendly. It's also private and quiet but still convenient to Santa Fe for dinners, shopping. The Mercedes fleet was amazing!

"Picturesque resort stay"

8.0

Property and rooms were pristine, beds super comfortable. Great hiking nearby although signage is not great. The restaurant waitstaff were attentive, could have used more attention at the host stand as sometimes no one was there. The spa technicians were amazing, and I can only hope they will soon have a full spa facility so they can offer even better treatments. The location is secluded but only a short drive to downtown Santa Fe. For the class and rate of the hotel, I was expecting more service, specifically at the pool I was surprised there was no pool bar and also surprised there was no actual spa facility. Overall the property is beautiful and service was great.
