Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu

The resort is huge and beautifully designed, offering breathtaking views of the beach and sunset. The surroundings are clean, and especially calming at night, making it perfect for relaxation. There are also plenty of facilities to enjoy throughout the stay. The room is spacious and well-suited for families, giving our active 3-year-old plenty of room to move around comfortably. One of the best features is the patio, which provides easy access to the garden, beach, and STAR Marina jetty, very convenient and enjoyable. The swimming pool is large and thoughtfully designed with different depths, making it ideal even when there’s a big crowd. The heated system keeps the water pleasantly warm, perfect for leisure swimming. The spa experience is excellent as well, offering both body and foot massages. The private setting and soothing ambiance make it incredibly relaxing.

While the private beach is beautiful and well-maintained, it can get quite crowded especially during sunset when many guests gather to take photos, which takes away from the tranquility. There were also mosquitoes in both the room and the patio area, which made the stay less comfortable than expected. Additionally, the air conditioner and refrigerator in the room were not sufficiently cold, affecting overall comfort and convenience.

The hotel as a whole needs a lot of updating and renovations such as the bottom of the pool, ceilings of different areas (breakfast area), elevators were outdated, etc.
