Duval House

The location was excellent, and the breakfast was good. It could offer a few more options—such as scrambled eggs and bacon—but overall, it was still enjoyable.

The internet didn’t work at all during the entire stay, and there wasn’t enough seating available at breakfast.

Went to Key West for a winter get-a-way. Booked the Duvall House for its location. It is right on Duvall Street. The property is beautiful with well spaced, clean, rooms, and lush gardens. It is a series of buildings and it seemed that almost every room was privately placed. It is easy to sit out behind the hotel in the gardens and find peace and quiet. Our room was in the rear so we didn't hear the noise of the street. If it weren't for the personnel in the front office, who don't seem to know what is going on, we may have given it 5 stars. We had called ahead, because check in is until 8PM, and our plane was rescheduled, so we knew we would be arriving late. Megan, the Office Person, said that we would get an email after 8:00 on the night of check in. It would give us the gate code (a security gate from the street) and instructions for getting into our room. When we landed at the airport, there was no email. Fortunately, when we arrived at 11:30 pm, someone was leaving, so he held the gate for us and we were able to get to the office. It was closed. There was sign with a phone number for after hour service, so we called. It took three calls before someone called us back. It was only then that we were told to look for an envelope with our name on it, hidden in the mailbox and we were able to get into our room. Next morning, we went to the office. Of course, everyone apologized and was so nice. They offered bottled water and we took 2. Not until we checked out, did we realized we were being charged $2 every time we got bottles of water. Water is readily available in most stores for $1/bottle. The hotel also posted that they do not refresh your room unless you ask for it. So we said they didn't have to do it every day, we would let them know. That was a mistake. Never was our room refreshed the whole 6 days we were there. Even when we asked for it, it did not happen. We had to go get fresh towels, and empty our own trash. I think that's kind of cheap for such an expensive lodging. The housekeeping people and the gardeners seemed friendly, but every request had to go through the office. They also say they will help if you want to make reservations for an activity. But when we inquired, they referred us to brochures and clearly didn't have an interest in helping. We only went for breakfast once. The women working breakfast were very nice and friendly. The breakfast was just OK. There were made-to-order pancakes and fresh fruit. Not much else except for some very small, basic pastries. Coffee was good. I just can't recommend this hotel, despite it beautiful property and great location someone needs some SERVICE training.

We enjoyed a very relaxing 6 days at the property. The Duval House is located conveniently to everything one would enjoy in the Key West area. The staff is extremely accommodating. The property exhibits old Florida island charm.

Very clean room and bathroom. Great centralized location we could walk everywhere!! Staff was super friendly. Breakfast buffet was delicious. Can’t wait to go back!
