Grand Universe Lucca, Autograph Collection

A stone’s throw from the train station, just inside the old city walls lies the beautifully renovated Grand Universe Lucca, Autograph Collection hotel. Our family of 3 had a wonderful 5 night stay here over Christmas. Antonia, Maria & the entire team went out of their way by preparing a birthday surprise for my son, and we had a Christmas treat lying in our room on the evening of 24th Dec. Breakfast was personalized, with staff recalling our favorite drinks, each of us being greeted warmly and someone checking multiple times to see that we had everything we needed. Our rooms were cleaned thoroughly every single day, including turn down service on Christmas Eve, when the service came with cookies- which was a real pleasure. Highly recommend a stay here. Needless to say Lucca itself is a beautiful, unspoilt city - which retains its small city charm. We had a Christmas market & live music just outside the hotel and were able to walk around the city walls with residents each morning in the bright sunshine. Lucca is also within easy reach of a number of other places- Pisa, Florence, Viareggio, Cinque Terre, making it a great pit stop. Arrivederci e grazie Lucca & Grand Universe!

My wife and I stayed in the Grand Universe Lucca several times over the past four years, and every time the experience was consistently exceptional. Located in the walled part of the city that's a ten-minute walk to the train station, The Grand Universe is beautifully furnished and decorated, and it includes the most comfortable beds, large flat-screen TVs, and wonderfully appointed bathrooms with huge showers. The staff is absolutely amazing. Georges is the regional manager, and he always goes out of his way to welcome us upon our arrival. Antonia is the on-site manager, and she ensures a wonderful stay for every guest and makes us feel like we're family. Vanessa is her assistant, and she is a consistently bubbly, happy and welcoming host who makes everyone feel appreciated. Ricardo always goes out of his way to greet us and welcome us back, and his kindness and accommodating manner are outstanding. The young ladies who staff the restaurant during breakfast are truly exceptional and kind. My wife and I have stayed in dozens of beautiful hotels throughout Tuscany over the past twelve years and the Grand Universe Lucca is by far one of our favorites. We absolutely love staying there, and that's a direct reflection on the management and staff. The Grand Universe Lucca isn't "just a hotel," it's our home away from home in the beautiful walled City of Lucca!

Sharming Hotel in a sharming town! Enjoyed my stay. Service was above and beyond. Food was amazing, I tried so many local specialities. I highly recommend a visit to Lucca and a stay in the Grand Universe Hotel. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Make sure to avoid high season to enjoy a fully authentic experience in the city!

Great hotel. Ideal location. Very nice rooms. Kind staff. Nice breakfast. Overall an easy stay. A quiet hotel in offseason. The larger suite is nice for a family. No complaints at all. Would recommend for individuals, couples or families.

Terrific location. Unfortunately they were setting up for Comic Con and there were tents being set up EVERYWHERE. Traffic was hard to navigate to the hotel. Regular rooms are small, Jr Suite was spacious. Well appointed but not luxurious. Nice bathroom amenities, turn down service. The AC controls (not a simple thermostat) in Italian, OK for temp but fan control questionable. The heated towel rack control was behind the makeup mirror. Breakfast either buffet or a la carte. Both good. Dinner was good, but the dining room is very small and if there are tour groups you could have quite a wait. Front desk personnel were exceptionally helpful with umbrellas, reservations etc. Would recommend but it is somewhat overpriced in our opinion.

I would like to have given a higher rating because it is a beautiful hotel with friendly staff and an amazing restaurant. The room was large with a nice view. For my husband and I, the bed was very hard. It was the hardest bed I have ever slept on. The air conditioning in the room could only be turned down to 21 C / 70 F. This is not hot, but there was no air movement so for us it was uncomfortable while trying to sleep. The bathroom was a bit too dark for my liking. These things are personal preferences but they are important for travelers considering staying here to know.
