Quinta da Bela Vista - Madeira

Just returned from a weeks holiday at this sumptuous venue. My summary comments are as follows: 1) Venue - traditional, well maintained, family owned estate house with large, well manicured gardens. Located in a quiet suburb of Funchal. 2) Amenities - delightful mature gardens, outdoor swimming pool (we didn't use it but it looked fine), gym, sauna, and jacuzzi. 3) Dining - we took the half board package, which was excellent. The breakfast buffet was comprehensive, and could not be faulted. Same for the four course evening dinner. 4) Staff - without exception, every one of the team at this venue was professional, polite, and willing to help. Staff in the dining room deserve special praise as they were true professionals at their craft, as was the chef and associated team. 5) Rooms - large, air-conditioned, immaculately clean (praise to the house keeping team) and well appointed. Our had lovely views over the gardens. This is a quality venue, and if don't mind paying a little extra to ensure you have a memorable holiday, then I can totally recommend it.

An excellent hotel with great staff and food. In a lovely position overlooking Funchal. An hotel with traditional levels of service.

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel, it's in a great location if you want to be out of town and in a quiet area. The views from the garden are gorgeous, the gardens themselves are very special. Without exception, the hotel staff were amazing - they say when you check-in that they want you to have the best holiday and they certainly do everything they can to make that happen. We ate in the hotel (breakfast every morning) and a few evening meals in their various restaurants - all of the food along with the presentation was excellent. If you are looking for a glossy stainless steel with loads of glass sort of hotel - this isn't for you. If you want something with a bit of history, charm and a pride in its position - it is for you. Just book it - you won't be disappointed! If we ever go back to Maderia - we will stay at this family hotel in a heartbeat.

What a beautiful hotel. Our reception was lovely and we were not disappointed with the stay at all. Food was excellent, dining choices are many, bar meals are good, hotel evening fixed menu very lovely, we didn't eat at the manor restaurant but would not have been disappointed we're sure. Our room was beautiful and very spacious (541), lovely balcony too. Pool was just right size, gym well equipped too. Staff were lovely and always helpful, Muhammad deserves a special mention, he works very hard and provided excellent customer service at all times. Highly recommended

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for just two nights as part of a walking holiday with Headwater. It is a beautiful, quiet hotel with lots of character. We upgraded our room to a balcony and it truly was an amazing view. The staff are friendly and can't do enough to help. There is a courtesy bus during weekdays to take you into Funchal but we just used the local buses which ran regularly. Breakfast was included which was a tasty buffet with plenty of choice and we sat around the Pool Bar to eat and relax. Our rooms were cleaned every day. I would like to have stayed much longer.

The hotel is situated on a hill overlooking Funchal, surrounded by beautiful gardens. It is full of charm and character. During our visit in mid October, it was not full and the atmosphere was relaxed and unhurried. Our room was spacious, very clean and with a lovely view of the gardens. The staff were very friendly and attended to all our needs, including recommending and booking tours. Evening dining in the restaurant was excellent, as was the breakfast. The wine list was good, and prices reasonable for such a quality hotel. We chose to eat in the Manor House restaurant on our last night which was a superb treat. The pool area is well maintained and peaceful. There is a gym, and a sauna and jaccuzi also available to book. The hotel runs a shuttle bus into Funchal several times a day on weekdays, but the local bus service stop is around 5 minutes' walk away and we used this several times during our stay. The hotel is ideal for couples looking for a quiet, charming place to stay - most guests are over 50 - but probably less suitable for families with younger children.

Beautiful hotel in an amazing tropical garden. Helpful, attentive staff. Top class facilities. Pool bar where you can sit outdoors and eat overlooking a great view was our favourite place. Quiet and peaceful. Minibus shuttle to town centre on weekdays. No good if you are wanting entertainment or nightlife.

We had a wonderful stay at Quinta Bella Vista for 10 nights at the end of September into early October. The setting is beautiful, set in well kept tropical gardens. The staff were excellent, providing friendly, courteous service. The reception staff were very helpful. The pool area was beautiful, set in the gardens. Plenty of shade and sun loungers. The pool staff made sure everyone had cushions and towels and would help set up parasols where needed. We ate mostly at the pool bar. The standard of food was excellent and very well presented. Magda, Mohammed and Sara looked after us well, always making us feel very welcome. Breakfast was set in a beautiful dining room. The choice was brilliant and set us up for the day. The staff work so hard to maintain very high standards. We were impressed. Our room was clean and spacious, with a big comfortable bed and comfortable pillows. We had a generous balcony overlooking the garden. It was quiet and we slept well. We enjoyed Blackie, the hotel cat. A lovely character, loved by many. We would definitely recommend staying here and would stay again. Thank you all.

Old fashioned and creaky without aircon and a smell in the bathroom. The bikes in the gym were poor (one broken, the other unreadable display). Parking space inadequate. We dined out, so nearly every night we had to park on the street. Suites don't have balconies or dedicated showers. Only over bath versions at a height suitable for people under 6ft.
