Quinta da Bela Vista - Madeira

We spent three nights at Quinta Belle Vista in Funchal during a hiking trip, and it was an absolute dream. The hotel itself is full of historic colonial charm, surrounded by the most beautiful botanical gardens that make you feel like you’re tucked away in a private oasis rather than right in the middle of Funchal. Our garden room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, perfect to relax in after a long day of spectacular hikes. The food was gorgeous – from the plentiful breakfast to the evening meals – and the service throughout was warm, professional, and attentive. A special mention must go to the team: when our flight was cancelled due to high winds and we had to turn back from the airport, they kindly accommodated us again without hesitation, turning what could have been a stressful situation into a smooth, pleasant experience. Quinta Belle Vista combines history, tranquility, comfort, and truly outstanding hospitality. We loved every moment of our stay and will definitely be returning next year!

Lovely quiet Hotel set in beautiful grounds, staff a friendly and helpful, the pool is spacious and quiet. The Manor restaurant is well worth a visit.

Property was very nice but furniture and room was very old. Pillows were flat and AC was slow to cool. Pool is very nice. Food was ok. Bugs in my room unfortunately

Stayed here for 7 nights on a half board basis as a solo traveller. Overall - missing a few touches for a 5 star experience but this is compensated by the staff who were just great. Check in went smoothly - for a five star it would have been nice to have a welcome drink on arrival and given more information about the hotel and its facilities. My room which was a garden room had a musty smell the night I arrived but next day it had gone. The room could do with a little TLC/update I felt but overall it was a good size with plenty of space. Cleaning was of a very high standard. The pool area was very well kept and very relaxing. Music was playing in the background but didn’t take from the relaxed vibe around d the pool. The food at the pool bar was excellent. At night it was lovely to sit with an after dinner drink and again listen to an excellent soundtrack. The staff at the bar were excellent and I would definitely recommend the mojitos. Breakfast was excellent. It didn’t have the vast bland buffet you would see in other chain hotels . However, it still had plenty of choice and the quality of the food was excellent. Dinner was also excellent. But as a suggestion it would be good to give guests some choices with the dinner menu. I felt awkward having to ask staff to go out of their way every night to come up with an alternative for items on the menu. They went above and beyond to facilitate me. I would like to say thank you to Carina, Sunita and the wider team for all your wonderful hospitality. I also want to say a special thank you to the Manager ( whose name I didn’t get ) a total professional who was so good to me in terms of my food requirements and made great wine recommendations for the week. One piece of feedback I would give is in relation to the cost of wine per glass in the hotel - expensive! Overall, I really enjoyed my stay - I went to relax and I certainly did this while staying at this hotel. The staff are outstanding and go out of their way to ensure your stay is a comfortable one. My husband and I had the most wonderful 10 days at this beautiful hotel. It is the most charming place, the service is exceptional, the rooms are huge and the staff are incredibly helpful. Every member of staff seemed so happy in their work and delighted in making our holiday so fabulous. The hotel grounds are so lovely - our highlight was visiting the turtles every morning and making a fuss of the resident cat. We enjoyed the most delicious breakfasts every morning and had dinner at the little tea house by the pool a few times - so romantic to sit upstairs and watch the sun going down over the hills and the port of Funchal. The food was delicious! We prefer not to book half-board as we like to get out and about and try different restaurants. There are so many places to eat in Funchal; we especially loved the restaurants in the cobbled streets of the old town. The hotel is about a 15 minute drive from Funchal - there is a courtesy bus and a great local bus service too. We enjoyed Levada walks - above the clouds, exploring the island on a 4x4 trip - especially Fanal forest. We also loved walking along the coast path to Camero do Lobos. We used the gym too - in a perfect pool-side setting. Thank you to the incredible team of staff for making our holiday so wonderful! 🥰

We did enjoy staying here, but wouldn’t say it meets the standards of a luxury hotel. The rooms were clean, quiet and the AC is great which was most important to us overall. But the decor and finishes are tired. And amenities are low quality. A 2 in 1 soap/shampoo is just not appropriate for the star rating. The dining staff is serviceable but not friendly, but the reception staff is quite pleasant. The grounds of the hotel are lovely-we enjoyed the poolside bar quite a bit! The food at the restaurants is good but the breakfast is the exact same every day and lacking in terms of quality I’d say. Overall, we did like this place but could definitely use some upgrades.

Holiday: 07/08/25 -20/08/25 This is a beautiful ex-colonial building, a hotel with breathtaking views of Funchal Bay and the surrounding mountain areas, superb surrounding tropical/sub tropical gardens within the hotel grounds. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable, and some provide spectacular views. The buffet breakfast is astonishing, with a great choice of different fresh and tasty hot and cold items and a prompt and friendly staff service for hot drinks. Unfortunately, the table de hote menu could be more appealing and exciting, and dishes appeared a little bland and boring for the price offered. Pool and pool area, pool bar were great with exceptional service from the pool bar staff for both food and beverages. The hotel's most outstanding feature by far was the quality of the staff, whom ALL exhibited professional, attentive, friendly, and helpful qualities. Thank you, management and staff I would recommend this hotel to potential guests looking for a great and quiet hotel with little or no music/entertainment. Loved everything about this hotel experience. Classy, quiet, clean and ideally situated in gorgeous location with great views over the sea. Fabulous food in the a la carte and pool bar restaurants. An efficiently run place with super lovely attentive staff. Particular shout out to Magda, a long standing member of the hospitality team. We would definitely return.

We have just returned from a glorious two weeks at the Quinta da Bela Vista; a peaceful oasis away from the bustle of Funchal. The hotel oozes classic refinement with the food being of the highest order; we stayed half board and would highly recommend this option. The staff were a delight with particular mention for Mohammed at the pool bar who could not be more polite and helpful and Samuel in the restaurant for his gentle humour. For those who love their plants, the gardens are full of interest and the views from this lofty position are stunning.
