"The "Chief" hotel is gone."

2.0

I booked the rooms online and called the hotel directly to confirm we had at least one ground floor room (my 82 year old mother recently had hip replacement and they don't have an elevator). When we arrived, the parking lots were empty. The desk person asked if we could wait 15-20 minutes for him to get our rooms ready (why weren't they already?). The indoor courtyard (which was always the draw for us) had all the lights out (this is where the ground floor rooms are located). We asked about the ground floor room and he said they didn't have any available (obviously no one else was using them). As my mom could not navigate the stairs, we opted to cancel the reservation. We ended up going to two other hotels that were booked (it's Heritage Days weekend) and ended up with the last room at the Holiday Inn Express who gave us a discounted rate due to our circumstance. We've stayed at this hotel, formerly "The Chief" for over 50 years for family and class reunions, weddings and funerals. It's a shame it's no longer a viable option.

"Disgusting; False Advertising;Transitional Housing"

2.0

DO NOT BOOK A ROOM HERE. I’ve stayed here yearly since 2022, but this time, we were told our room was in “the other building”. This “other building” was in a different parking lot and had several boarded up windows/door. Parking lot full of garbage and dog feces. First floor smelled like feces. Filthy carpet. Had to shoulder the room door open (got worse throughout stay). Man from the front desk said he had to bring us towels and fix the TV (it never worked). Bathroom light was burned out; took another bulb from the room to use in there. Had to repeatedly open the toilet tank to stop it from running. Shower temp randomly changed from cold to scalding. Stains and mold on bathroom ceiling. No extra toilet paper. Toiletries were one bar of soap and a half-empty bottle of shampoo; room coffee was years old. Linens were old—nothing like the the listing (or what I’d seen in prior stays in the main building). Multiple large dogs kept in other rooms and ran loose in the parking lot. Cars in the parking lot never changed—most were full of belongings (looked lived-in). No issue with that, but it explains why this felt like transitional housing. We were obviously the only “hotel guests”. Trash sat in hall for days. On our last night, there was feces on the stairs. If main building was undergoing renovation, we should have been told that at check-in or ahead of time (reservation was booked 3 mos prior). I stay in budget hotels around the country, and this is the WORST I’ve ever seen.

"NOT A FUNCTIONING HOTEL"

2.0

DO NOT BOOK A ROOM HERE. This is NOT a functioning hotel anymore. I’ve stayed here once per year since 2022, and it was always run-down, but it was an acceptable budget hotel. This time, when we checked in, we were told that our room was in “the other building”. This was the first time I learned that there was a second building associated with this property. This “other building” wasn’t even in the same parking lot as the main hotel. We drove around the “other building” and saw that several windows and a door were boarded up. The parking lot was overgrown and full of garbage and dog feces. This “other building” looked like a halfway house. We were very uncomfortable but decided to go in anyway since we wouldn’t be able to get a refund, and we had to stay in the area for three nights. The “other building” was just two floors of rooms—no lobby. As soon as we walked in, we noticed that the first floor smelled like feces. The carpet was filthy as we made our way upstairs. We got to our room on the second floor and there were obvious signs of long-term residents staying here. I have no issue with that, but this place is obviously not functioning as a hotel—blatant false advertising. The door to the room was very hard to open (had to shoulder it open every time we went in), and this got worse throughout our stay. We got into the room and the man from the front desk brought us towels (when we’d checked in, he’d said the towels were in the drier, which seemed odd as we were checking in fairly late in the afternoon). He also said he had to fix the TV, which never actually worked the whole time we were there. After he left our room, we realized the light in the bathroom was burned out, so we had to take another bulb from elsewhere in the room to use in there. The toilet also wouldn’t stop running, so we had to open the tank and fix it repeatedly. The hot water for the shower would go from lukewarm to cold to scalding multiple times throughout a 10-minute shower. There were stains and mold on the bathroom ceiling. There was no extra toilet paper (we just went and bought some at Wal-Mart). The toiletries consisted of one bar of soap and a half-empty bottle of shampoo, and the coffee in the room was years old. The linens on the bed were old—looked nothing like the images in the listing (or what I’d seen in prior stays in the main building). There were multiple large dogs staying in other rooms, which were allowed to run loose in the parking lot. The same seven cars were in the parking lot the entire time we were there—most of these cars were full of belongings (looked lived-in). Again, no issue with that, but it explains why this felt like transitional housing. We were obviously the only “hotel guests” there. The room itself was reasonably clean, but again, nothing like what was advertised. There was a lot of noise in the hall in the early morning, and trash sat in the hall for two of the three days we were there, and was still there when we left. When we got back to our room on our last night, there was feces on the stairs. What an absolute nightmare. I don’t know what has happened with this hotel, but we come to this area every year, and will never stay here again. If the main building was undergoing renovation, I feel like we should have been told that when we checked in, or the hotel should have called and told us (our reservation was booked three months prior). We stay in budget hotels around the country every year, so it’s not like I have expectations of luxury accommodations, but this is the WORST place I’ve ever stayed in and I’m furious that we were charged $78 per night for something that was absolutely NOTHING like what was advertised.

I called Expedia to tell them about our experience with a very dirty room. The central area where the unused pool was kept locked but not drained was also the dining area. It was dark, dark carpet no lights except from the street-facing windows. There is no elevator. Not ADA accessible but for the ground floors. Everything looked old and run down. That 7 star rating must have been for the previous management. The next morning, we could not reach a manager. There was no one at the front desk when we arrived nor when we left. Breakfast was cold cereal and old coffee. A few bagels and some juice. There were domed chafing dishes that had crumbs but were quite cold so I don’t know if the crumbs were from earlier that morning or just not cleaning in several days. But the room was the worst part. The bathroom was filthy. The bottom sheet had a small hole in it. One pillowcase had 2 holes big enough to fit several fingers through. I’m getting depressed just recounting it and there’s more to tell.

**Review Title: “Stay Anywhere Else—Literally Anywhere”** I have stayed in some less-than-perfect hotels before, but this place set a new low. Advertised as a “3.5-star” hotel, I wouldn’t give it half a star if I’m being generous. Where do I even begin? Let’s start with the toilet, shall we? When I walked in, I was greeted with the delightful sight of a toilet that was clearly left uncleaned for God knows how long. But, just when I thought it couldn’t get worse—it did. The only water running to it was *scalding* hot. Yes, you read that right. Flushing it felt like using a boiling cauldron. I don’t know what plumbing nightmare this hotel is running, but it was beyond unacceptable. You couldn't even wash your hands afterward without burning yourself, assuming you wanted to touch anything in that bathroom at all. As if that wasn't enough, the shower was a death trap. The water coming out of it was so hot it could peel your skin off. Adjusting the temperature? Forget about it. It was like the hotel wanted to make sure you left with third-degree burns as a souvenir. I couldn’t even bathe properly without fearing for my life. Now, let’s talk about the *nonexistent* cleaning service. You’d think they’d at least try to hide their incompetence by pretending to clean the rooms, but no. I waited. And waited. Three days passed without anyone coming to service the room. Towels? Didn’t get replaced. Trash? Overflowing. Sheets? Who even knows when they were last washed, if at all. I be

Rooms were not ready. Smelled smoky. Flies everywhere. Dogs barking. Ceilings falling down. This whole place needs to be razed to the ground and rebuilt. It shouldn't even be allowed to be leased. Nasty and very poorly managed.

"Bad hotel. Don’t stay here."

2.0

Knew the motel and location from stays long ago.

TV didn’t work. Cold water in shower. Finally warmed up after 15 minutes, and then too hot. No breakfast in morning at 8:15, after it was promised until 9am. No staff in building at all in the morning to receive my complaints, or to give me a receipt, or a 50% discount that I thought would be fair.

"So disappointing"

4.0

We stayed at this location in the past - before it became Coratel Inn - and had a very nice experience so chose to stay here again. Unfortunately under the new management we were so disappointed. The exterior stairs to the 2nd floor were not safe due to construction materials littering the stairs. One of our rooms had a towel remaining from a previous guest, sticky floors, dirty sink counter; while the other room was cleaner however had mold on the ceiling of the bathroom. The website and the amenities book in the room advertised free breakfast....the only thing(s) available consisted of coffee that I'd guess had been "cooking" for 2-3 days, hot water and two types of tea bags. Zero food items! Even at that the trash bin was so full I couldn't add my one styrofoam cup.
