The house was very clean and included artifacts from a traditional machiya house. The relaxing indoor and outdoor bath was the highlight of our stay.

This property is amazing, really clean, 4 beds (we had the AI room), very big bathroom with 2 bathtubs. The host is amazing, really friendly and helpful and also gave us a matcha ceremony and taught us to make matcha. We enjoyed every single second of it, would highly recommend it.

"Exceptional"

We purchased breakfast with our stay and it was truly exceptional. This was a traditional Japanese style breakfast which was a wild departure from the western breakfasts we were familiar with. While we did not recognize everything in it, it was all wonderful and clearly packaged with strict attention to detail and immaculately prepared. The layout of the property and amenities were also top-notch. We spent two weeks traveling Japan, spending only a couple days in each city. I can say emphatically that we enjoyed the Kyoto Machiya more than any other place we stayed in, which included a mix of western-style hotels, a ryokan, and an apartment-style room.

There was absolutely nothing I'm able to find wrong with our time here. While the price is significantly more expensive than some other local options, given the value provided it seems to me to be more than a fair amount.

The unique building and bath facilities. Staff (Island-san) very helpful and matcha tea welcome was very nice! Gojo station very near, easy to commute to tourist places.

The outdoor and indoor bath were great for relaxing after long days site seeing. The welcome tea ceremony provided by the host was a great start and enjoyed by all on comfort of our own Machiya.
