Macdonald Aviemore Hotel

Staff excellent. Frontage of hotels require update.. More 3 star than 4 star decor..

This hotel has really gone downhill, the rooms and beds are comfortable but it is clearly not being cleaned properly. There was hair in the sink and the shower was blocked with hair. The public areas really need a good clean.Carpets hadn't been hoovered for days by the looks of it and the soft furnishings in the restaurants were stained. Waiting staff were also pretty unkempt and serving breakfast in dirty clothes some of them. Pretty poor, you'd expect more from McDonald and for the price.

Brilliant location on a large site with multiple buildings which was a bit confusing. Nice room and very clean

Looked the part when we checked in only to be downgraded to the worst building in the complex. It was like an abandoned prison, with very little communication with the person on reception. Corridors smelt disgusting and there was a huge gap at the bottom of the door that left the room very cold. Meals were great but even that they had mixed up all our booking times and had to squeeze us in. Also not happy at having to £348 for 2 nights only to be shown a receipt that said the rate was £138 per night so basically overpaid by about £70. Wouldn’t recommend and local lodges look much better value for money.

As like many people we had reservations about staying anywhere due to the current situation (Covid-19). We couldn't have been happier with our stay though. Everything was laid out clearly, the facilties

I booked through expedia for the MacDonald Aviemore hotel but got there and it was closed. Finally got hold of a staff member in the shop next door. And was advised that the hotel is closed and i should make my way to the MacDonald Highland Hotel. I had no email or phone call to say about the hotel o booked was closed etc. So we got to the Highland hotel and met by Christine on reception and she was very proffesinional and was very apologetic on the hotels behalf. The room was small and had too much furniture. The kettle was in a area where there was no socket and the TV sits infront of the mirror where you have to move it to sit on the seat in front of the mirror to do your makeup. The bathroom is of good size but the shower water pressure is poor. We put a service our room label on our door from 10am and got back to our room about 5pm and the room didnt get serviced. The receptionist was plesent and apologised and we got fresh towels sent to our room. We went for breakfast but we werent happy with the breakfast..the black pudding had been cooked that much it was very hard,cruchy. So we went to costa coffee for the next couple of mornings. Limited car parking. Lovely helpful staff. Over all we would go back.

Not a 4star hotel in my opinion. Needs a good upgrade. Bedroom furniture was dusty even though it was supposed to be cleaned thoroughly due to COVID. No air conditioning in any rooms even though Expedia website States this. No access to leisure facilities which should have been advised before booking

Stayed at this hotel for a night away with my boyfriend recently. We had had a phone call the night before to inform us that we were being 'upgraded' from the Macdonald Aviemore Hotel to the Highlands Hotel due to low occupany but this was their 'signature' hotel. Upon arrival reception were friendly and we quickly got to our room. Entered the room sat on the bed and the mattress was such poor quality you could feel the bed underneath, you nearly fell through it. We went back down to reception, my boyfriend has back problems and could not have slept on it at all, and neither could I have. We got moved rooms without a bother, however the second room smelled of stale smoke. Off back down to reception we went and got moved again. Thought this one was fine went down for dinner, came back up and there was a very loud clattering noise coming from the wall, sounded like a boiler noise or similar. Phoned reception and the lady came up and she said there was nothing she could do and 'you are only staying for one night so it's up to you if you want to move again' as if to say you can put up with it for one night. Which to be honest we probably would have done had to not paid almost £150 for a room for the night and had already moved so many times it was becoming ridiculous that none of their rooms seemed suitable. Final time we moved there was still a clattering noise coming from the wall however was quieter and just put up with it.

Good location in centre of Aviemore - possibly only good point. No way is this a 4 star hotel. Staff completely disinterested. Couldn't access swimming pool as it was full. Couldn't book a restaurant for dinner on our half board rate as they were full. Had to have the buffet instead - which was predominatly cold with a terrible choice of food. Quality of breakfast was terrible with a hair as an added extra.
