"Great for food intolerances - gluten-free, coeliac, corn intolerances well looked after"

10.0

Gluten-free, coeliac, food intolerances happily catered for. Our second visit here. Lovely easy, small but friendly 24 room hotel in the Savannah garrison’s old rum store - loads of character. All on the ground floor, and felt very safe wandering off to Pebble Beach 100m away for sunsets. Of our party of 7, 4 had serious foodie ‘issues’. Island Inn kitchen and dining staff were brilliant - attentive, great memories for individuals’ restrictions, patient when they (or we) got it wrong. And caring - “not on my watch” when I asked for something that might be cross-contaminated. Exactly the sort of attitude that’s needed. Will happily return.

"Honest opinion, Island INN."

8.0

Island Inn accommodation 5/5. Ground areas 2/5 it is not ideal for unstable walkers or disability people. Food 4.5/5 Bar 4/5 service was slow at times. Ambience 5/5 professional staff 5/5 surrounding area 4/5. At pebbles beach the Men bathe the horses for tourists with entertainment. The waves of the sea are rough, with the beach stones sharp. Reccomend Take First aid box. The number 11 bus are cheap to jump on to Bridgetown etc there are many places of Interest. Wild Monkeys roam free around the area. They love the bananas. It was expensive in Barbados in all areas. Take Mosquito cream for bites. Wear long trousers at nights. Small pool available? This was a super place.

"Nice small hotel"

8.0

This is our second stay in this hotel. Small (25 rooms) so easy to meet a lot of nice people due to its size. It does need a few upgrades and a bit of paint. We did notice that the food was not as good as last years menu but still very much edible. You will always find fault in every hotel you stay in with one thing or another. If you looking for a party time every night this spot not for you. If you looking for a sit back relax have a few drinks and nice conversation, this is the spot. The only real fault that i found was that some of the staff are very very sour looking. One bartender never smiles and every time you order a drink it is like it is an effort for him. The other bar tender acts like the job is below himself and needs to grow up a bit. Grabbed a drink from my wife because he got it wrong and spilled it over her. Never said sorry and just marched off. The other, Terry, always smiling and so so pleasant cant ask for any better. Some of the servers, here again, it is like an effort for them to do anything for you. I really hope management reads this and has a talk to some of these employees because it does bring down the atmosphere of the hotel. And they don't realize, it cuts into their tips. Short walk to the beach which I find no problem at all. Be prepared to pay for your chairs and umbrella. Tell the venders you staying at the Island Inn. We paid $15.00 US per day. All change they give you back in local money. Would I go back.... YES

"Excellent"

8.0

The air conditioning was excellent in room 22. Bathtub shower didn’t work and was not fixed while we were there. We did have a walk in rain shower however we would have preferred the handheld tub shower! Room was spacious and bed was firm but comfy! Meals were good, buffets were somewhat predictable and got a bit boring as the week went on I did discover that you could order a few things from the kitchen like eggs cooked your way or French fries at lunch etc. The menu meals were very good with a variety of options. The dining staff were lovely and the other guest were friendly and the atmosphere was very intimate ( you quickly got to know everyone). I only have one area that I was somewhat disappointed with and that was our service at the bar we were often overlooked while others were served before us and often we had to go looking for the bartender. Overall our experience was very good and we would recommend this location to anyone looking for a quiet relaxing time away!

"Wonderful hotel."

10.0

Lovely small hotel with spacious rooms and wonderful staff. It’s way better than some higher rated hotels we’ve stayed in. The food is excellent and mainly served to the tables. The wine and other drinks are all good quality. A lot of our fellow guests were visiting for the second and third time. It’s a 2 minute walk to Pebbles beach where the race horses are taken to swim every morning. They walk past the entrance to The Island Inn. Everyone was very friendly, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would be happy to return.

"Wonderful time at Island Inn"

10.0

We enjoyed our stay very much, we had a garden view room (1) which was spacious and very quiet, with the occasional visit from the monkeys in a morning. Room was kept clean and tidy with fresh towels daily. Food we found to be excellent, with a muxture of buffet and a la carte at lunch and dinner, best rum and raisin ice cream ever, and marmalade I would have happily paid for to bring home. As mentioned on most reviews, the hotel is small and very qaint, which makes for a friendly atmosphere between guests and staff alike, check out Elsie's dance movies! The Manager was often present and always polite, she joined us in a dance one evening. The only slight disappontment we found was the lack of entertainment, singer twice a week and a DJ once a week, that said, it is a quiet hotel, peaceful hotel after all. Pebbles beach 2 minutes walk away, and stunning Carlyle bay a 10 minute walk. We celebrated our Ruby Wedding during the stay, and staff went above and beyond to make it special, room was decorated with banners and balloons, also flowers and champagne in the room was a lovely touch. Will return.

"It’s cheap for a reason……….."

6.0

First time in Barbados for my wife and I. Having read the majority of the reviews we understood that the Island Inn is a bit like marmite - love it or hate it. Well we didn’t love it (we really didn’t love it) but we also didn’t hate it. As previously described by others the place is small and comfortable. We didn’t have any hot water for two days so we didn’t get off to the best start. What makes this hotel good is the people that stay there, not the place itself and certainly not the staff. It’s so small that within two days of getting there you know most guests by name so will always be in company at the bar or chatting with different people in the evenings. The vast majority of people staying there when we were there were British. The food is way below par and the portion sizes aren't enough to satisfy grown adults. Only decent meal is breakfast which is buffet style and didn’t really change for the ten days we were there. They also don’t mention that you can get your eggs cooked in different ways. You only find out when you see the person next to you eating an egg cooked other than scrambled. What we found most disappointing is the miserableness of the staff. Most of them are surly and if you can get a smile you are lucky. If you can find the barman (not Terry, who knew his job and was very pleasant) when you want a drink you’ve had a result. When you do find him and ask for a drink he acts like a petulant schoolchild, throwing things around and mumbling to himself with the odd obscenity thrown in especially at night. When I spoke to the receptionist about his behaviour she told me it was because of his condition! He clearly thinks the job of a barman is below him. Others really rate this place but we certainly won’t be going back. Lets face it this is one of the, if not the cheapest all inclusive hotels on the island. Now you know why. Pay a bit more and go somewhere nicer. PS….. you can use the facilities of a sister hotel, The Sands, via reception. When we found this out we went there every day. The staff smiled, were polite and the place had a happy vibe. The food was good and plenty of choice. Best meals we had all week were at the Sands. Island Inn gets better reviews but take my word for it it The Sands is a much better choice and only slightly more expensive. Perhaps that’s why we met a lot of Island Inn guests at The Sands.

"The Island Inn small and charming, a wonderful place to relax and meet new friends."

8.0

Island inn Hotel Barbados The Island Inn Hotel is small and charming, but with no real Curb appeal. But once you get inside it all changes, the place is full of charm and character including the staff from Manager all the way through to the night security. It used to be the Garrison Rum Store, with only 24 rooms; the hotel offers a wonderfully sociable atmosphere. If you're the kind of person who enjoys meeting fellow travellers, you’ll likely know most of the guests by day two. It’s not a party scene, but it’s a lovely place to unwind and enjoy good company in the shared spaces, the pool, while small, is perfectly suited to the intimate size of the hotel, and the hotel itself is more for adults than families The rooms are clean, and everything is well looked after, but looking a bit tired in places, and could do with an independent big brighter light in the middle of the room for when you are getting dressed, there is a drying rack outside your room, and you get used to the tree frog chorus of a night, and the early morning wakeup call as the monkeys run across the roofs. All rooms have irons and ironing boards, TV, kettle, hair dryer, safe and a big can of bug spray, which we didn’t use, but other people did. The air con in the rooms is excellent. The all-inclusive is a bit different from larger resorts it’s menu-based and served to your table, which makes meals feel more personal and relaxed. Breakfast and other odd times like BBQ evenings are buffet. The food was consistently good, and we never went hungry. The eating area could do with better ventilation, Fans in the covered areas and something to create an air flow on the corridor eating area, as there seems to be no air flow to keep the temperature down as the heat builds up. Watch out for the monkeys! There were lots of them at the resort, watching you at Breakfast; they snatch those bananas off the table like no tomorrow. The Green monkeys hang out at the closed brown sugar restaurant next door to the hotel. They are friendly as long as you don’t tease then with food if you decide to feed them, but the hotel would prefer you not to. There is entertainment a few nights a week, a couple of singers and a DJ. There is a lovely atmosphere in the evenings. Because it’s a small hotel, you naturally end up chatting with other guests, and that’s part of the magic. It creates a friendly, family-like feel. The Managers Rum tasting and cocktail party is a lovely friendly event For the readers there is a very large second hand book 'library' should you run out of your own reading material in reception. The location of the hotel was great for Pebbles Beach, just a 2 minute walk, Pebbles beach is where they bring the horses from the racing stables to bathe at 6:00 a.m. walking then past the Hotel to the beach and then back home to the stables. Carlisle Bay beach was a 5/10 minute walk away. We found it was only 20 minutes’ walk along Carlisle Bay beach into Bridgetown Everyone was so friendly including the locals who helped put you at ease and feel welcome. It is easy to catch a bus of different types to many places on the island. George Washington’s house, museum, the Garrison and horse racing course are nearby. If you are going out for the day or to the beach request a packed lunch the day before freshly made sandwiches, pastries, fresh fruit and beers. All packed in ice in a cool bag. Check out when cruise ships are in when planning your trips. You can go to both sister hotels Mango Bay and The Sands Hotels, and used their facilities for the day, which always make for a nice change of scenery. Enquire at reception. If you come back to the hotel after a certain time at night, the doors are locked, and you need to buzz to get inside. This was our first stay at Island Inn Hotel and certainly won't be our last; we loved every minute and will definitely be back again.
