Occidental Tamarindo - All Inclusive

Weather is great and staff is awesome but facilities are tired and the gym is laughable. Food is bland and all meats seem to be overcooked. On the plus side, if you asked the kitchen staff to cook you something and NOT overcook it, they were most accommodating.

First of all this resort is a beautiful location. The beaches, near a town you can walk to and the sunsets are excellent. Other than that we had hassles EVERY SINGLE DAY. We checked in and gave us a room I did not book, we booked a single king superior room and they put us in a loft with 2 beds in the family unit (near the spa) farthest from the pool and beach. This is with an Anniversary we mentioned in the notes when booking. Asked for the room we booked and they said they were booked and couldn't switch. Once in the room the tv didn't work and there were no washcloths. It took 5 hours to get a washcloth. Everyday when housekeeping cleaned the room they forgot something. One day it was the creamer, next day stir sticks and sugar. Next day no washcloths. It went on and on everyday I had to call the front desk EVERY SINGLE DAY for something. Two nights before we left a youth soccer team stayed in our unit and was very noisy. So much for a nice and relaxing anniversary! The food was very mediocre both the buffet and restaurants. Snack bar at pool was horrible, food was always dried out. One day an iguana was roaming around the pool and that was fun and it took a big dump 3 chairs away. Numerous people alerted the front desk and pool (security?) person walking around. It took 2.5 hours until a maintenance person came it properly clean it up! Seriously! On our last full day we came back to our room around 4pm and there was no water restocked. I went to the front desk and complained the the staff member basically called me a liar. He said we double check, I said come to my room right now and I'll show you. He said he can't and smirked. I demanded 2 bottles (they keep water behind the desk). He finally gave them to me. We will not return, it was not as relaxing as we hoped with all the little hassles every single day.

Excellent experience at Occidental Tamarindo, good service, very good food and drinks. Beautiful beach where we enjoyed spectacular sunsets. Very satisfied with our vacation.

We booked a room with a king-size bed in this Resort and they given us a double bed. It was impossible to change rooms, very disappointed. We had a wonderful time .accommodations,food , hospitality. Special shoutout to bar staff Edwin , Johann were amazing .we will come back .Show out also to your excursion agent Jucy wonderful lady who helped us pick our 2 great events .

Vanessa, our hostess at the restaurant Kioto was very good and attentive. She helped us understand and was very nice aswell. The experience was overall good.

We just left the resort last week and overall had a great time. We’re pretty laid-back people with no major complaints. The buffet was fine—nothing special—but the omelet station was great, and the juice/smoothie station was solid. One downside is you can’t get coffee before 7 a.m. when the buffet opens. The snack bar was comparable to gas-station food, but honestly, the quality matched the price we paid. The grounds are beautiful, and we had a ton of fun. The rooms were nice, though they could have been cleaner. The staff was hit or miss—some very friendly, some not so much—but we never had any issues. If someone wasn’t helpful, we just moved along. The pool bar was good, but be aware you’ll be escorted out of the area if you’re wet. They only had pool drink service one day after 4 p.m. during our 10-day stay; otherwise, no poolside service. Everything was pretty much on par with the reviews we read beforehand. If you go in with low expectations, you’ll be happy. It really is beautiful—the pool, beach, and grounds are the highlight. We would 100% go again and stay here again, though we’d probably look at other options too. This was the best price, and for that, it delivered.

Great location, walking distance to downtown Tamarindo for shopping and restaurants.. Beautiful grounds. Designated smoking areas are needed. Smoking on beach loungers shouldn't be allowed for comfort of other guests.

Definitely not a 5* more like a 2-3*. It's definitely out dated and requires a massive facelift. Edwin the lobby bar person needs a serious chatting to about his lack of people skills! Alonso in the pool bar is phenomenal and always there to please. We travelled in a group of 10 and one couple had a flooded bathroom and gross sewage gas smell a couple morning. The food is lack lustre. The beach is beautiful but not very beachy in the sense it's public so there's no cabanas available or anything like that.
