Hotel Carmel

“Worst experience of my life,” said my son this morning after we finally got a good night’s sleep at home. Yes he’s prone to exaggeration, but this was hands down the worst value for the money I have ever spent on a hotel in 40 years of traveling. Even though we splurged $1200 for two nights at Hotel Carmel we didn’t sleep at all. The beds and pillows were saggy and uncomfortable, the carpet dirty, the bathrooms the level of a two star hotel. This is a run down, dilapidated property masquerading as a resort and getting by with its great location. DO NOT STAY HERE unless you love the feeling of sleeplessness and being ripped off. Stay next door at Hotel Stilwell - it’s chicer, cheaper and brand new. Hotel Carmel Proprietors, you need to renovate before you charge unsuspecting customers $700/night. Potential Guests, do not believe the other reviews. This property is not worth it. The staff is lovely and tried to compensate by not charging the $70 resort fee but that was insufficient for being so outrageously overcharged to begin with. Even the TV didn’t work until they called the engineer to fix it and even then the onscreen prompts for chromecast and on demand did not connect. Never again.

Staff very nice. Great location! The hotel is older and could use some updating, especially the bathrooms and mattress was not the most comfortable (sagging in the middle). Expensive hotel for the overall quality of the room.

Good location, rooms are clean

I arrived late at night (10:30 PM) and my booked room was given away. There were no more two-queen-bed rooms available so I had to choose between two small rooms far apart from each other or one large room with one bed. I have children, so I picked the large one and ended up having to sleep on the floor. In addition to that, hotel hasn't enough parking spaces for all rooms, so I had to look for a park space on the street.

Great stay!

This hotel is conveniently located to downtown, quaint and clean. For the price I paid, close $700 per room, I expected more. The rooms we stayed in were in need of updating, particularly the bathrooms. The coffee maker does not make hot water for tea. The desk lamps in both rooms were non-operational and the only other lighting was bedside sconces. The breakfast was a bit on the weak side with the only protein on offer was hard boiled eggs. The fruit was seasonal, but tasteless. The lobby room was a bit scant for finding a place to sit for breakfast. All-in-all, if I had paid about half the price I probably would not have taken time to rewrite an unfavorable review.

My husband and I went to Carmel to celebrate our 40th anniversary. After looking at many hotels in the area, we chose Hotel Carmel for several reasons. One was the charm of the rooms. We loved the fireplace and the sitting area by the windows with shutters. We also loved the sitting areas outside of each room. The common outdoor area with the fireplace, fire pit and jacuzzi were great. I also appreciated the simple but quality breakfast that was provided. They have complimentary chocolate chip cookies in the afternoons. Brophy's restaurant is at the hotel and it was fantastic! We arrived later in the evening so it was nice that something was open and we didn't have to go anywhere. House keeping was fantastic! There is limited parking in the hotel lot but we were able to find street parking.

The staff because they were friendly and inviting. Jewell was pleasant and informative. Ron went above and beyond making sure I had hot water for my tea-in the evening-bringing towels the maids forgot to leave as there were three of us. Thank you Jewell. Thank you Ron.

Maids had skipped some things; no toilet paper in bathroom, towels…minor details. Construction across the street started at 7a!!

TV was useless. It turned on but you could not get it off the Home Screen. Table lamp could not be turned off. So I had to get under the desk to unplug it. The room was not as advertised. It was okay but looked a lot nicer on booking.com. Also, at check in, we were promised fresh baked croissants for breakfast. The continental breakfast did not open until 7:30 am. A Bunch of guests were waiting for them to open. And there were no croissants. They appeared an hour later but they did not taste fresh baked.

Cute little property with nice outside fire pits and great hot tub. Room was cozy and loved the breakfast each morning in the lobby. Staff was super friendly and accommodating, especially Anne. Walkable to everything in town.
