"Mediocre"

6.0

Staff very good but hotel in need of a refresh. My room was old and tired looking..it was underwhelming and not value for money. The indoor pool is tiny and the jacuzzi was not working which was not mentioned or indicated at booking. Cleanliness is definitely an issue..for the price I paid I expected better. The Location is good for beach and walk into Bournemouth for shops and restaurants.

"Excellent"

The breakfast was very good. Room could be cleaner - rooms need decorating (not modernising just watermarks on most walls!) bar service was really poor, but apart from that an enjoyable stay

"Extortionate parking charge"

10.0

Everything was good. Great sea view from my room. Only gripe was the car park charge of £20.00 per night. I mentioned this on check-out, but the receptionist insisted that they are the cheapest in Bournemouth. This is of course untrue - if you are the cheapest for parking, why not advertise it as a benefit, not keep it under wraps until guests arrive and havevpassed throughvthe car park cameras.

"Lovely hotel , needs some attention !"

6.0

Just returned from a weekend away at this hotel . It’s a 3 star hotel and although it’s a lovely old building it definitely needs some tlc . The room was very large but very tired with thread bare carpets , peeling wallpaper and broken tiles and sink. The bed was comfy, and nice clean towels. Restaurant for breakfast was typical for a 3 star hotel, but nice and plenty to choose from . Indoor pool was ok but again needs some money spent on it. Wouldn’t call it a spa ! Outdoor pool did look inviting but not heated. Most of the staff were helpful and polite. The show on a Saturday night Rubys was very entertaining as adults ! Great location from pier, sea front , shops and restaurants, On the whole Bournemouth to me is all looking tired and the shopping centre has definitely gone well down hill .

"Disappointing"

4.0

Staff, breakfast and outside area are very nice BUT building is very tied, room (see pictures) also very poor. It was no heating, all night we were sleeping dressed up in our clothes. I went down to ask at the desk, what to do and I got a very small electric heater which was nothing to heat up the room. If would be a bit earlier I would definitely leave the place. But all evening we was hoping that the heating will come on. Check in is at 4 pm , (till you get into the room and return back )spa area closed by 5 pm so not much chance to enjoy it . (This is on a Saturday) Also opens at 10 am next day but check out is at 11am . Spa area is a small pool and a Jacuzzi , which was out of order. Saturday night it was a party down stairs till 12 am . Car park £20 for guests. Overall we was looking forward for a nice relaxing spa weekend by the coast BUT it was a very big disappointment , would be much better if we would stay at home in the warm and save the money.

"Annual Family Winter Break at The Carlton Hotel Bournemouth"

10.0

We have recently returned from a great 3 day stay at The Carlton Hotel in Bournemouth. The Hotel is very well positioned and as the weather was so wonderful we were able to fully appreciate the superb views. There were 14 of us, ages ranging from 1 year to 76 years old. We all enjoyed an excellent time. Thanks to Elisue (The Manager) for arranging our stay & for checking in on us. We enjoyed full use of the relaxed Bar and of the Restaurant where we had plentiful breakfasts and enjoyable 3 course meals each night. We were well looked after by Kar, Tommy & Sam. It was great that we could make use of the swimming pool and the children particularly enjoyed this. Nothing was too much trouble for Noelia & Josaphina who were the lovely, efficient ladies at the reception. Thanks to all. We will certainly return.

"Don’t book this Hotel with Secret Escapes. Worst room allocated"

2.0

We booked a 2 night stay in a superior sea view room with Secret Escapes. We were treated so rudely at arrival at reception, I had pre asked for superior room 216 by e-mail a month before our arrival. I understand that we were not guaranteed this room, I had rang the hotel early the morning of our arrival to ask what room we had been allocated, because it’s all about the room for us as we use it to enjoy relaxing a lot of the time while away away. a lovely man on reception Barath was so helpful. He said we had not been allocated 216 but he could actually change our booking to have 217. I was so pleased as we know that suite. On arrival the receptionist was so rude. She told us straight away that room 216 was allocated already and in use. I asked if we could pay more and have the suite next door 217 which we thought we had been allocated, Again she said. No it’s in use, She said booking with a superior sea view room secret escapes is a different level of room to booking directly with the Hotel and the room we wanted 216 was not for our type of booking, she was very rude towards the poor guy who had tried to help us with our room allocation. She said he’s just a night porter. She eventually offered us suite 118 at extra cost and I just wanted to get out of the situation as quickly as possible as there were people around reception. She did let me look but to be honest I just accepted it. I suffer with fatigue so I didn’t want to drag it out I was already defeated and didn’t have the energy to ask to see something else. That room was already made up to so good for not waiting for housekeeping. We were then told to return in 3.5/4 hours as the supervisor had to check that room. The room/suite was awful, peeling wall Paper. Dirty old bathroom that smelt. The bath was disgusting. Pubic hairs on the bathroom floor. Yes it was a suite so extra space but we will never stay at this Hotel again. That room/Suit was awful. We were made to feel second class guests because we had booked with Secret escapes. Tommy in the bar and restaurant made our stay, he was lovely, so we at least had a nice evening each evening. Thank you Tommy.

"Nice Hotel with very small gym and lacking of facilities"

6.0

Overall a nice large hotel with very good size and well appointed suites. We had plenty of space for seating with a walk in shower and separate bath. The main features that let the hotel down were the tiny gym with only 3 pieces of aerobic equipment and a selection of weights in a tiny space that l was not expecting in the size of the hotel. The sauna and jacuzzi were not working and have not worked for ages according to the staff and the indoor pool which whilst warm was also very small. Had l known the sizes of the gym and pool and the fact they were not working l would have gone to another hotel in the area, as i had planned to use them every day. We stayed for 3 nights with dinner and the first night we waited for over 45 minutes to get a starter as we were subsequently told the waited had forgotten to tell us there were 2 tables of 11 and 6 served before us and the chef had asked the waiter to let us know as we could have had a drink at the bar rather than sitting in the restaurant for that time. The 2 and 3 dinner were served in a better time frame but again the waited forgot what we ordered and our starters were served to another table. Another couple mentioned it was like being in "Fawlty Towers" Breakfast was ok but hot foods items running out and having to wait for replacements. We had free parking but be aware the charges are £20 per 24 hours for the hotel !! Overall a nice hotel but sadly lacking in the normal facilities that are expected today and if you are into fitness stay somewhere else.
