"Good"

4.0

The room, though recently painted, had old, scuffed furniture - wardrobe with handle missing, no chest of drawers, mean chairs, no house phone, no safe, no ;lidded waste bin in the bathroom, no water own the hottest weekend of the year ('you can buy some at the bar,' the receptionist informed us) and smelled faintly of cigarette smoke. Dull, featureless. Some friendly staff - Nisha, Pavan, Tommy - though not on reception. Seriously overpriced at £250/night.

"Bournemouth hidden gem, save a bed for me!"

10.0

Having been using this hotel consistently for 4 years and when offered membership to use the facilities I jumped at it. As a venue the staff in the leasure suit can't do enough. The team are polite, kind and very tentative learning our names and are always happy to chat. The attention to detail is second to none and the everywhere is kept clean, tidy and I've never seen an over flowing bin. Honestly, can't imagine spending time in the sun anywhere else. I bring friends, family encouraging others to join! I have booked hotel rooms for family to stay booking tickets to socialise at your pool party. I can't thank everyone enough and I highly recommend this hotel. Thank you for making our sunny days great and helping us work off our winter lbs in the gym!

"Carlton hotel"

8.0

Hotel was fine, but in need of a bit of refurbishment. Room was ok, but the shower was awful. Most of the staff were really friendly. On the website, it said the hotel was a 5 minute walk to the beach, it took us nearly 15 minutes, as the hotel is on the east cliff, downhill going, uphill coming back.

"Great location"

10.0

Great location. Staff was friendly and the hotel seemed nice. I would recommend for anyone who wants to be close to the beach. 5 min walk and you’ll be down at Bournemouth pier. Didn’t try the restaurant, however I’ll definitely try it next time!

"Becareful of parking payment!!!"

10.0

The stay was fine, even though we were put into a time share room( bizarre) for some reason. It was sea views which were lovely. Pool is brilliant especially if u have the sun! The food( breakfast) couldn't ask for more 4 stars Now let's come to the parking...we arrived on a Saturday at 15.10 24th May staying till Monday 26th( bank Holiday) I stood by the reception and went through the app to do the parking. . I was asked when will I be leaving? I put down the 26th...I was charged £35 Not at any point was I asked for a time we were leaving. ! We left at 11.10am on the 26th. My friend got a ticket saying we overstayed!!! I'm fuming, the hotel told her to ring parking company. My friend did this, the person on the phone argued with her...eventually she had to pay £60!!! Omg therefore my parking has now cost £95 which is unbelievable. How many more people are being caught out like this. The hotel needs to take some responsibility surly? This has spoilt our weekend away trying to have some respite from the kids 😪 It's bad enough u have to pay yo park in their car park if your a guest! Just money grabbing company.

"First visit, met all our requirements"

10.0

We hired the Orangery for our wedding, ourselves and many guests stayed at The Carlton. The hotel staff were very welcoming and attentive, the email updated is worth a read, free drinks instead of room.service. I think we had a free room upgrade, we had booked a family room, and had a stunning seaview, with balcony, that was a blessing on our big day for photos. We were given free parking an absolute blessing, given the about of luggage for the big day. Beds are huge and comfortable. The rooms are quiet. Fans are provided in all bedrooms. And needed. The hotel is exceptionally warm, sauna warm!. We were bewildered as to why the stairwell windows are all shut, given the heat in the building, this is the only area of improvement required The outside pool is heated and lovely for an early morning swim, in door in very warm. Hot tub was closed. The food was delicious and a great selection. The grounds are very well maintained. Kelly our event planner, was there to welcome us, reassuring on the big day and even appearing with two champagnes afterwards, so sweet

"Unfortunately a mixed experience"

6.0

Stopped for 2 nights on a deal which included evening meal & bottle of house wine. We paid an upgrade fee to have a sea view room. Booking process was a nightmare as emails from the hotel stated a standard double room only - a big thank you to Jack at the main booking office for successfully getting confirmation directly from the hotel that we did indeed have a sea view room, just 10 mins before expiry of the 24 hour 'right to cancel' period. A non sea view room was not an option for us ! The room was lovely: large, light & airy with a full sea view, however the balcony was smaller than we would have liked & unusable during our stay as we'd had heavy rain just prior to our arrival & the balcony didn't have any drainage holes to allow the water to escape. The bathroom was a very good size, but the shower pressure was very poor. Unlike some other reviews, we felt the upkeep of the hotel was appropriate considering the age of the building. We didn't use the swimming pools, but the pool terrace was attractive & both pools looked inviting. Unfortunately, none of the public areas of the hotel have good sea views, which was disappointing given that their website says "Bournemouth Carlton Hotel offers dramatic views across the bay", so we were glad we had upgraded to a sea view bedroom. The house wine was very palatable. The evening meal on the first night & breakfast the first morning were both excellent, all food served hot & the table service was very good. However, the same cannot be said for the second day. The bar was unmanned when we went to get a drink at 4pm - eventually got served after queuing at reception to request service. At least 4 tables had dirty glasses & plates on them (presumably left from lunchtime?). Despite us being the only people in the bar, it took nearly half an hour for the tables to be cleared. We didn't eat in the hotel the 2nd night as they were only able to offer us an 8.30pm slot & we like to eat early, so we ate in town. Breakfast the 2nd morning, wasn't good. Despite being down to breakfast at first opening (7.30am) & having to wait 15 minutes for the hot buffet to be brought out, the food was cold, literally! The restaurant seemed very short staffed & none of our plates etc were cleared whilst we were at the table. Overall, a very mixed stay, hence only being able to give it 3 stars.

"Good breakfast and hotel"

8.0

My husband and I visited as with a virgin experience voucher, the booking process was great and the guy on the end of the phone lovely. When we arrived at the hotel the staff were friendly and helpful, our room was nice as other reviews had mentioned some parts were a bit tired but that doesn’t really bother me and it was spotlessly clean. There was a fire alarm while we visited about 9:30pm, this felt like the staff didn’t really know all the procedures or where to send the guests for the assembly points. Guests were all over the car park, some were heading back into the hotel to grab chairs etc! Some guests were advised of things others were not, we were stood in the designated area and were not advised of anything until a member of staff walked slightly towards us and told us to go back in. Still don’t really know what happened but assuming it was nothing to worry about (?!) Breakfast was lovely and well planned out, only feedback would be that I would have liked to know that there was vegetarian sausages on offer but were cooked separately some guests this was mentioned too, others not. It’s not the end of the world as I managed without. Parking was pricy but I’d recommend not using the Your Parking space app on your phone as there is an additional £2.49 booking fee to pay on there. Pay at the machine or front desk.
