We really enjoyed the stay! Staff at reception efficient and friendly and the cleaning team were exceptional! The room was looking out onto the garden which was lovely. The decor was tired although the walls aren’t thick! We pitied the people that got rooms close to the exits!! The food at breakfast we both enjoyed the variety of the buffet then followed by your order. Tips, make sure you order off the head waiters who write it down !! And secondly 10.30 am buffet closes so make sure you are down on time because you are told when sitting there, it closes at 10.30am and it does!! These wee things you learn along the way, it didn’t ruin anything, the gardens peaceful and quiet, watched the gardeners who worked hard, and we sat by both pools which were lovely and quiet.We moved to adults only pool as did others if kids, which are allowed, appeared! The gym and all was good for a hotel although overheard at a table people rubbishing it which I think was wrong. Through reception we hired a personal driver for the day who took us around the island and showed and taught us a lot and went to places buses couldn’t get to. It was very worthwhile and enjoyable!! If we wanted to get about used uber into the old town but generally we ate local, plenty of restaurants (3l’s was superb, short walk). Walks along the seafront which was lovely but it is quite hilly so watch out for the return!!. Overall we both really enjoyed our hotel and everything else, my wife really enjoyed the downtime and we would definitely return!!

The staff, garden, food were amazing.

Rooms were smaller than I expected and the bathroom could use upgrading.

Die Zimmer unterhalb der Reception sind dringend renovierungsbedürftig, total abgewohnt, entsprechen nicht dem Preis und der Hotelkategorie; Bad veraltet und unpraktisch.

Location is good ... close to shops and cafes (5 or ten minutes walk) and a useful bus stop on route 24 in and out of Funchal (not a great idea to drive in and they are quite reliable and inexpensive). Very good room (we were given the Pool ''Villa'' which was an entire small building with a large separate living room and a nice terrace at the rear. The gardens are wonderful (resident Monarch butterflies and all) and well maintained and there are two swimming pools (which we didn't get the chance to use). Breakfast was good with separate cooked offerings on order, and the restaurant serves Lunch and Dinner with a good menu with plenty of variety. We ate at the Manor twice and the food and paired wine was excellent (currently they only serve two fixed menus (which can be slightly adapted) rather than also an a la carte just to be aware. All in all we had a wonderful stay and will go back in the future I'm sure.

Not much not to like but ... The road outside is quite busy at times but most if not all of the rooms are some way from the main section ... there is a little noise at the terrace restaurant but its not that intrusive (and we hate road noise so it cant be that bad if it didn't bother us) ... Peppermint tea ... as with many countries across Europe its difficult to find (unless mixed in with green tea) and often not strong enough if you can find it so if this is your favorite evening drink prior to turning in take some with you or the hotel could persevere and find some (minor I know). At night the midges can be out so wear longer clothes (legs in particular) and a quick spray with repellant might be a good idea if they tend to ''like you''. This Id imagine is true across the island and certainly in Funchal I expect.

Stunning property and gardens! We stayed in a premium garden view room on the first floor which I would highly recommend. It was good to have a lounge area and the balcony was large enough for a double daybed, deckchair and table. We totally relaxed away from the main hubbub of the city however restaurants/bars and shops were on our doorstep. You occasionally heard traffic noise but generally it feels like an oasis of calm. The breakfast had a lot of choice of hot/cold options and we also had dinner in the restaurant one night which was very good. Chris's restaurant just round the corner was one of our favourite places to dine but there's so much choice in Funchal you can easily find somewhere different every day. The staff were friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms do look a little dated and probably need a refurb however this would not put us off returning which we will do one day as this was a truly wonderful stay. It takes about 20/30 minutes to walk down to the harbour/old town and if you dont fancy the steep climb back then a taxi cost 6 euros. We hired a car for a couple of days to explore the island and the driving was easy (get an automatic, its very hilly!) however there is not a lot of parking in the villages we visited so if you come in the height of Summer you could find that having a hire car could prove quite stressful.

Schöner Garten. Gute Lage. Gutes Frühstück und Abendessen (haben 2x im Hotel gegessen). Freundliches Personal.
