Pestana Grand Premium Ocean Resort

Loved the views over the ocean and the food. Especially at the morocan restaurant. As a vegetarian, I thank the chef and the team for having a vegetarian buffet once a week and for the vegetarian menu available in the restaurants every day.

Thankyou for a wonderful stay. We had an issue with our rooms not being next to eachother, but this was resolved swiftly the following morning and we were given 2 fabulous suites on the 5th floor. The hotel is lovely, and in a perfect location, not too busy, and incredibly clean. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The food was great, with lots of choice and a separate kids menu. The Italian restaurant which we booked twice was wonderful. Fantastic stay, and we hope to return soon.

Lovely location, beautiful hotel with freindy staff . Great cocktails especially Hugo’s poncha ! Would recommend the jeep safaris !

Pros: * Beautiful location overlooking the ocean * Good transport links to Funchal * Beautiful al crate lunch * Moroccan restaurant excellent for evening * Helpful staff include Bar people, Bedroom Cleaners, Pool attendants Cons: * Breakfast very poor selection/ variety. Staff needed to be constantly reminded to top up empty items * Toilets beside library in poor upkeep. Always required attention * Some staff including reception staff unhelpful *Pool chairs haggered/ dirty

We stayed for a week end of July 2025 . The hotel is very nice, very good location right on the promenade. Rooms are clean and large. The staff were really great, always helpful. We have been celebrating our wedding anniversary there, they have booked one of the a la carte restaurants in advance for us and sent us champagne to the room, made our day even nicer. The food was good, had twice in a week themed evenings on the terrace with specific dishes. Pool was really enjoyable, enough sunbeds no need to reserve. The only thing I would criticize is the air conditioning in the room very loud, not easy to sleep with it on but in truth it is not that warm so if you keep it on in the evening was ok to switch it off at night.

Quality hotel in a nice peaceful area. The standard of the rooms and public areas are excellent....However, one major negative for us as a family with two young children is the temperature of the indoor and outdoor pools. The hotel had a reasonable amount of children staying there but both pools in the school holidays were almost always empty. The water was freezing outside and not much better inside. This is a real shame for the children and totally avoidable. I understand it is harder with the outdoor pool (saltwater), but inside there were notices advertising that the pool water temperature had been reduced to be more eco friendly, which as laudable as that might be, it's poorly thought out when a hotel of this size has both it's pools nearly empty all the time! When you consider the price of a stay here and the competition from other hotels on the island (plus the canary islands in the non peak months) to have one of your main assets (indoor pool) unusable needs to be reconsidered.

Overall this is not what you would expect from 5 star hotel. Especially for the price that we paid we expected a bit more. Food was very good.

My family and i have stayed here for more than 20 years. BUT NEVER AGAIN. on arrival on the 30/6/2025 I was placed in room 1648. the smell coming from the sink drains was over powering so I decided to clean them myself. and after 2 days the smell went. this is meant to be 5 star accommodation but as you can clearly see by the photos I've posted it's clearly not. I reported all the problems to the hotel. after 5 days they telephoned me in the room to say they would send in a maintenance team to repair all the problems. as I didn't want work men in my apartment fixing all the problems for the last 2 days of my holiday I declined the offer of the maintenance team. and on checkout not even a sorry sir for your dirty and unsafe apartment. ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING. Plus they advise on there website 5 star hotel with one of the biggest saltwater swimming pools in Madeira 🤣 it definitely is not a saltwater pool and is also badly maintained. Rips in the pool liner and bits of plastic in the water from broken jets. VERY POOR ALL ROUND.
